Two sets does not a QB make, so yeah, Schwab may still be the guy.

But until then, I'm still going to be the jerk about it.

at least you can learn how to spell his name. I hope you don't troll us too hard....we don't have many trolls at this point.

Geez. He was highly regarded around the league. Plenty of teams would probably be happy with him as their starter. Carr is no longer here but you still seem bitter. Lighten up dude. And if you're going to make fun of him call him by his given name at least. S-C-H-A-U-B. Say it with me now...Schaub.

It looks like Babin wants to start. Come to think of it, I'm not sure that Babin wouldn't beat Mario in a straight up footrace anyway.

I've always liked Babin and think he got a bad rap from switching positions and defenses...too, he never plays for more than a couple of series.

David Carr has been sacked twice but has come back with an 85 yd passing TD

actually that was an error in reporting. Basanez is the QB that made that throw.

Carolina Panthers at 14:54
1-10-CAR10 (14:54) B.Basanez scrambles up the middle to CAR 12 for 2 yards (J.Seawright).
2-8-CAR12 (14:18) E.Shelton left guard to CAR 15 for 3 yards (M.Gunn, C.Dahl).
3-5-CAR15 (13:38) (Shotgun) B.Basanez pass deep right to T.Biddle for 85 yards, TOUCHDOWN.

At this point I'm beginning to loose interest, other than for having football on my TV in so long.

All in all, I have to say after watching tonight I think the Texans have more debth than last year. I am not impressed with the first string, and I am most horribly unimpressed with the 1st string defense. I expected more of them. However, with only a few minutes to play, that is probably not a fair judgement of them.

However, it's wonderful to know football season is here and now I can watch the Texans.

I don't care about average. Turk kicked 58 yards to get us out of trouble one time and then kicked short and out of bounds at the 11 when we needed that.

I don't care about average. Turk kicked 58 yards to get us out of trouble one time and then kicked short and out of bounds at the 11 when we needed that.

Stanley just boomed a 34 yarder when we needed a long one. Just like he did last year.

oh, ok. good to see we have another improved position.

What do you have against "Schwab" anyways? Just curious.

I am upset because we gave up so much for someone who in reality doesn't have any better real time stats than Sage.

I know everyone disagrees with me, including football experts who know hundreds of times more about football as I do. But all I see is someone else's backup who has done no more, or less, than Sage.

And also, as I have said before, I hope I'm proven wrong. But until then, well, it's my stance.

we got the same player @ #10 as we would have @ #8 plus some extra salary cap room that would actually be an upgrade. Schaub is essentially the Texans 2nd rd. pick this year (already with proven NFL experience).

my stance is Matt is going to be better than Brady Quinn who was taken 22nd overall & Cleveland coughed up their #1 pick next draft to move up to get him & I'm not alone expecting that pick will be a very high pick indeed just ask the Cowboys.

so in the final review the Texans give up a mid 2nd rd. pick for Matt (I'm prediciting 48th overall) which is a small price to pay to upgrade the QB position.

Actually, I understand your viewpoint. There are two questions to be asked about the Schaub acquisition:

Is Schaub two 2nd round picks better than YKW? I'd say "yes". No hesitation.

Is Schaub two 2nd round picks better than Rosenfels? Hmmmmm.... let me get back to you on that one.

You're comparing Schaub's 9 snaps (I just counted them) to Sage's 2 quarters of work.

I'm not very upset about the 1 point loss to the defending NFC champs. Especially, when you compare our 1s to their 1s.

Plus. We left points on the field. If Sherman would have called for Sage to fake the handoff then boot leg out on the 3rd and 1 on the goal line, that would have been 6 easy. Their 2 defense was biting on every fake.

Even the TV announcers were wondering why we didn't go rollout on 2nd or 3rd down. Seems like Kubiak or Sherman wanted to see if we could go smashmouth with the mighty Bears.

We didn't. Not this time anyway.

i hear ya, it just pissed me off that McClain would try and paint the Texans in a bad light by providing inaccurate statistical information regarding a failure of a QB named Carr. To me, it seems that most of the Chron's journalists go out of their way to be critical of the Texans. I am as critical as anyone but I think JM just couldn't wait to try and rip the Texans.

I like JM and have been a reader since forever, but if he is a writer who actually wishes the Texans fail so he can sell newspapers/get readers, then he needs to get the hell out of Houston.

I just watched Carr's performance on NFLN and he looked shaky as usual. He made a few throws and made a few mistakes. Same as usual. He has always done well in preseason and in practice so I wouldn't put too much into one TD throw to think he has somehow resurrected his failed career. If he gets things right, good for him. I don't hope that he fails.....I just expect it.

as for JM saying that the Texans somehow look bad in all of this is just preposterous. the only thing that would have looked bad is if McNair and Kubiak trotted Carr back out for a 6th year with the Texans. There is nothing wrong with moving forward and nothing wrong with growing pains.

As for Schaub, he showed a lot of poise and I LOVED the fact that we now have a QB that can actually throw over the middle without rolling out or without some cavernous passing lane. My girlfriend was like 'WTF dude, it was just a 7 yard pass to the TE' and I was like 'you dont understand, he threw over the middle, honey. he threw over the middle and it didn't get batted down. its like seeing your child take its first baby steps. I almost teared up seeing something as simple as that....because its something we havent seen around these here parts.

negative props to Walter, Mario, and Black. All looked uninspired and/or overmatched. Mario was just pathetic with his level of effort and impact.

I know a lot of us watch the guy but Mario wasn't getting double teamed hardly at all and one time they ran right at him and the OTackle just shoved him out of the way. Count me as unimpressed to say the least about the 'new' Mario. At least last year teams didn't run right at him. I know its early, but I gotta be honest. It looks like his selection may haunt us about as long as the Carr selection has/is.

the rest of the team looked great though. our return game was sick and we just need to learn to stick a dagger in them and find the end zone more.

Very limited minutes--had at least one nice run I could remember. It was just a mess out there with BVP in so it is hard to tell anything.

I'd like to see more of his play because he really does have the opportunity to be a true change of pace back.

Something not found on the SAT: Dayne is to change of pace back as Fat Albert is to fine thespianism. [/semi-non sequitur]

I wondered about that too. I thought you couldn't leave the field - and come back on to make a play - unless you were forced/blocked out of bounds. Didn't look to me like he got blocked out of bounds. I'll look again when it comes back on this morning.

Forgive me for asking this question at the end of a 20+ page thread that is describing the events of the game this weekend but...

For those of us that neither have internet at home nor were able to watch the game nor received anything beneficial from ESPN...:gun:

How did the game go?

Brief cliffnotes would be GREATLY appreciated.

I've heard virtually nothing!

:texflag:

GASP! You need to get Internet at least to keep track! Heck, go to the local library and watch the gamecast there!

Anyway, the starters played for about a quarter. With all the money we have invested into the D-line we still couldn't put any pressure. Our O-line, while not great, did not yield any sacks to either Schaub or Rosenfels. Schaub an okay debut. He only threw 5 passes so it's hard to get an overall impression of him as a QB. Our running game was bleh. Green only had 3 carries for 7 yards. Dayne got stuffed 3 times trying to score inside the Bears 5 yard line. Lundy was decent and Gado was, IMO, below average. Mathis made a big play on a kickoff return, returning it for about 70 yards. Jacoby Jones had a very nice punt return and looked like could be the #2 WR sometime this season, if not by week 1. DeMeco Ryans is going to be one of the top 5 defensive players in the game. He didn't play much but when he did you could still see the impact he made. Chad Stanley stinks. Matt Turk is a much better punter. I probably didn't cover it all, but I think I got most of the essentials in.

My thoughts after listening:

Schaub was good. He was a drop and an overthrow away from being 5/5 with a touchdown. The overthrow concerns me a little bit but not too much.

Green wasn't that impressive (though Kubiak's comments say otherwise) but it was on, what, three or four carries? That's not really much to gauge a guy. He'll start regardless of his performance on Saturday anyway.

Aside from a very cold start, Sage was very impressive. From what I hear, he's usually pretty hot-and-cold and it was nice to listen to the "hot" part of that. 90 yard drive for a touchdown is pretty impressive.

Babin really cares. It sounds like he was at least trying really really hard.

Jacoby is awesome. He sounds like he'll be around for a long time.

I know there were likely more but I only heard one sack and it was on Van Pelt who absolutely stunk it up and cost us the game. Not that winning in the preseason matters but if you have one person who costs you a game, it shows you that guy won't be around. And that guy is Van Pelt.

I'm excited for the next game when Schaub will get some more reps. I also want to see what Zabransky can do.

overall we would have won and owned the bears if it wasnt for a bad call that said we ran into to the kicker, and even if we did it was slight and should not have been called in preseason

hadaad
08-15-2007, 09:36 PM
Or if we'd been able to stop them on fourth down, or if we'd been able to sustain more than a four-play drive (including the punt).

I didn't see the play but if it would have been called during the season, it should be called during the preseason. Better to set the boundaries during the games that don't count so there's nothing to complain about in the games that do count.

I was hoping we would come out in blue since we have a climate control policy...but I see we are in white again. Great to have the season start in any case.

I'm going to host a skypecast (https://skypecasts.skype.com/skypecasts/home) group voice-chat game room for regular season games. We can talk freely (for free) in that room as the game goes down.....but you must be approved to talk (so for instance you can have 100 people in the room but only 10 approved talkers - or whatever)...so it should be a something nice on game days for those of us who can't get to games or have disabilities or whatever.

will you give us the info on the skype deal? and oh yea wont you approve us all to talk?

will you give us the info on the skype deal? and oh yea wont you approve us all to talk?I see you started a thread on this...and you gotta be in a room to understand the dynamics. When you first get in a room you can only listen...if you want to talk you must ask for permission. If the room has 20-50-100 people in it you just can't have everyone talking or it will be impossible to listen to anyone, much less everyone.
