View Full Version : Titans sign Eric Moulds

TEXANS84

The Titans have agreed to terms with veteran receiver Eric Moulds and he will be with the team Friday at the start of training camp.

The team had long hoped to add veteran leadership at the position, where they are counting on threats to emerge from a group of seven draft picks brought in over the last three years.

Watch him have a comeback year for them.

I wish that the Texans would have held on to him until the Carr situation was resolved but then it probably wouldn't have made much of difference. He had legitimate reasons to complain about DC but I think on top of that Moulds just wasn't going to make the transition from featured #1 to role playing, somewhat slower possession receiver. It's pure speculation on my part but I think the coaches recognized this and let him go because of it. Some guys just don't have the temperament to adjust and I think Eric Moulds was one of them.

I've always wondered what really happened with Moulds. Both parties have kept a pretty tight lid on their respective side of the story.

I expect we'll learn more as October 21 gets nearer.

I agree 100%. I could see Moulds doing a lot to help the Titans and specifically VY.

He must have really p*ssed someone off and said/did the wrong thing to have the whole thing melt down after one season.

I hope the guy fails in Hickville being a Texans fan, but something tells me he has a chance at being another guy that comes back to bite us.

let's hope that isn't the case.

I really beleive that he has just slowed down that much. Why wouldn't have a team picked him up a lot sooner?? This smells of desperation from the tinbreads.

Moulds has had 3 100+ yard receiving games over the past 3 seasons. 11 TD receptions over the past 60 games. If Eric comes back to "haunt" the Texans, imagine what good receivers will do to the pass defense. Place me in the Couldn't Care Less column on this signing.

This smells like desperation on the Titans part more than anything else.

Maybe he will do a reverse on the 39 in OT winning the game to standing O :d:

When one of our WR get injured this season which seems to be a running theme for the last 3 seasons he will be good depth. If we run him as a slot possesion WR and push gage to #4 I do not see much harm. Until Givins gets back we are short a vet WR.

I am not excited about the pick but Titans+Moulds is better then Titans

Can't be sloppy seconds when your QB could not get it up. I would say more like trading up.

I didn't realize it, but 33 of his 57 catches were for first downs. I've always liked the guy, but I just don't think his style of play fit into our plans (whatever those plans may be).

Interesting - 33/57 sounds pretty good. What types of ratios do other receivers have?

What didn't fit into the Texans' plans? The catches or the first downs? :shades:

I was pumped with the signing of Moulds last year. In the first game of the year he scored a TD and to a fan who had seen Moulds live for the first time I was ecstatic, but concerned about Moulds lack of speed and fluidity. He simply was not the player that I had recalled in Buffalo and unfortunately he did not score another TD for the remainder of the season.

Fantasy Disclosure: I have had Moulds on one of my fantasy rosters eight out of nine years.

No surprise here. The Titans have been signing ex-Texans for a year or two now. I'd blame this on poor talent evaluation, but they did go 8-8 last year, so I assume they are half-way decent when it comes to judging talent, or at least pretty good at using the talent they have.

Of course, it would be absolutely brilliant if either Faggins or one of the rookies absolutely shuts him down. And, should the Texans prevail, I would L-O-V-E to hear Mr. Moulds' commentary for the post-game reporters.

Fisher is pretty good at using the hand he is dealt.

True. The Texans would do well if Kubiak can be as successful as Fisher has been in his career.

IIRC, KW was thrown to 21 times, made 17 catches, and 12 of them were first downs.

Interesting - 33/57 sounds pretty good. What types of ratios do other receivers have?

I don't know who you should compare him to, but here's a random sampling from nfl.com (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerindex/POS_WR):

Deion Branch 40/53
Plaxico Burress 33/63
Terry Glenn 57/70
Joe Horn 28/47
Marques Colston 51/70
Jabar Gaffney 9/11

Moulds' numbers seem good, but stats don't paint the full picture. He lost a step and no longer had separation from his defender, and it's obvious that the style we need is for our receivers to be a little more open from time to time.

What didn't fit into the Texans' plans? The catches or the first downs? :shades:

Obviously the 1 TD in 57 catches stat. :howdy:

This entire offseason and the amount of money under that cap that they have - AND their offseason acquisition is Eric "I'm 67 years old" Moulds...............

Of course there's the running game.

Heh.

This will be a great signing for them.

As much as people slag Moulds, when he got passes thrown his way, he caught them. That's more than you can say about some of the other Titans receivers.

IIRC, Moulds has the most receptions of any #2 receiver for the Texans.

No matter how talented VY is, a young QB leading young receivers is sort like the blind leading the blind. Moulds is going to be able to help both the receivers and the QB. (unless of course, he decides he is going to demand the ball at the rest of the receiver's expense).
