View Full Version : Texans have options in the draft

What's a good feeling is that Kubiak and Smith are walking the talk. I remember at the beginning of the offseason that they were not going to make a big splash in the FA signings but were going to make some changes. Also that they were looking for the playmakers.

Well, near the end of the offseason, looks like they're doing what they said.
...."Our goal is to improve this team, and we're going to."

After finishing 6-10 in Kubiak's first season a four-game improvement from 2005 the Texans have a lot of needs on both sides of the ball. But when trying to figure out what they're going to do in the draft, a good indication might be found in what they've accomplished in free agency.

For a team that began free agency with little room with which to operate under the salary cap, the Texans have done a nice job of acquiring role players to fill needs and provide leadership to a roster that's going to get younger after the draft.

Smith signed seven free agents running back Ahman Green, left tackle Jordan Black, cornerback Jamar Fletcher, outside linebacker Shawn Barber, outside linebacker Danny Clark, defensive tackle Jeff Zgonina and receiver Andre Davis.

"We feel good about what we've done in free agency," Smith said. "We've addressed some concerns. We don't have to go into the draft thinking we absolutely have to fill that one position.

"Because we've addressed some of our concerns, we've got some flexibility in the first round. Our intention is to take the best possible player."...

Kubiak also mentions at the end of the article how he still believes in K. Walter, but still looking for depth.
