New England covets patrick willis and is looking to trade up to get him. With 49'ers, Bills, and Panthers all interested in him look for the patriots to trade up to 10 or ahead of us. This is a real possibility and I think the texans would jump on it.
1A- Aarron Ross
1B- Dwayne Bowe
This would cure huge needs on both sides of the ball and allow the texans to draft OL in the 3rd. And we all know how good kubiak is at OL in the third.

With NE's draft history I dont see it happening.

No way they trade both their first round picks for our 10th pick.

I would jump on that, and I like Bowe alot. I might go LT with my other pick, depending on who is there of course.

according to the trade chart our pick is worth 1300 and theirs 1400. If they covet him and theirs no possible way to get him where their at I don't see how you can say that it's impossible.

didn't they sign adalius thomas? i guess their other lb's are getting old though huh and pwillie would play mlb?

I'm all for it but i wouldn't expect them to give up both of their 1sts this year. i know the points work out but they could get an instant starter with one of them. I would be expecting seattle's 1st, NE's 2nd, and like a 2nd next year. maybe more? i just dont see them giving up 2 1sts.

i'd love patrick willis to play for a great team like NE. I'd also probably take the trade...IF we got both their 1sts i'd take Kalil with one of them. Meriweather with the other. or a CB like Ross.

I don't think NE would give up two first round picks for the first overall pick much less the 10th one.

The trade value chart isn't used in a lot of situations. It's good to have as a gauge to check and see if you're getting proper value (technically). Most of it just comes down to GMs talking it out.

Willis is Belichick's kind of player. I'd love for a trade to happen.

NE gets #10 & #107
Houston gets #24 & #28

#24 Houston/ Revis/ or Meriweather
#28 Kalil

#73 Rufus Alexander / Justin Durant
#144 Rhema McKnight/ David Ball
#183 Mario Henderson
#218 Justin Medlock

It makes sense for HOU to make the deal, but NE isn't giving up 2 1st rounders to move up for Willis unless we add our 3rd rounder in this deal. I don't think it's too likely to happen. I would like to see a trade down though.

I see them using one first rounder but then using a combo of second rounders this year and next to move up.

They would much rather draft two instant starters in round one and give up more iffy picks later then only one first rounder.

I don't think they have a ton of holes to fill like us, so their later picks are more expendible. They want high probablity impact starters.

1993: Chriss Slade DE, 2.31 (31st)
1994: Willie McGinnest DE, 1.4 (4th)

Now on the one hand you can say its been awhile since they picked Bruschi. On the other hand...you can say they NEVER do it. Could say...been awhile they need them, therefore, this seems plausable. I can see a pattern here for sure. They haven't picked a true linebacker in the first round of a draft like...never. And now the scuttle bug is they are going to part with two highend...CHEAP players to do something they usually don't do ? ...Yeah, I believe it...Now tell me another one.

Dont forget the Pats were huge winners in the compensatory selections this year. They have extra 3rd-7th round picks they can package to make amore attractive deal.

I know it probably doesnt work out too evenly, but I'd trade down to 21 for two 3rds

Teams can't trade compensatory picks.

But it could make them willing to part with regular picks.

To enhance this for NE and make it something they would really look at, maybe if we threw Lundy or Taylor at them they would bite? With Maroenys surgery they have to be looking around some.

Don't trade any more of our draft selections!

Maybe. To clarify the Patriots' compensatory picks, they own one pick in the 5th (#171), two in the 6th (#208 & #209), and one in the 7th (#247). None in the 3rd or 4th round. Quantity, but not quality.

Per the NFL Value Draft Chart, giving up our 1st and 4th is almost the equal value of the the two late round number ones. I don't think New England wants to pay two guaranteed contracts IMO as many times that they let people slip away. Wouldn't mind this deal happening and still getting two starter to three first day starters with our 3rd round pick as well.

I'm not saying this trade is likely, but using historical trends for the Pats isn't a good idea this year. There has been tons of discussion about how atypical the Patriots are being this offseason and how Bellicheck may be pulling all the stops to make one last run.

your confusing free agency with the draft. the Patriots have done a better job than most of building their team via the draft, trading down, aquiring more rather than less, more costly prospects/picks. while it is true they have been the aggressors in free agency opening up Krafts bankbook, they have also let about every single costly player leave via free agency or just cut them outright.

I see nothing related that tells me the Patriot dynasty is nearing a conclusion so Bellicheck feels the need to make one last stand. its more like he feels these aquisitions are actually upgrades over what/who he let leave. gotta spend some money to stay at or near the top while still keeping a solid foundation. it would'nt surprise me if they trade down one of those 1st picks for a 2nd this year & next as the machine keeps rolling along glistening in the spring showers of another offseason.

I think I saw it on NFL total access either last night or this morning that the Patriots haven't done anything different this year as far as their approach to the off-season...

I believe Belichick said that they just basically got lucky in signing players in positions of need...

But that may or may not mean anything...

your confusing free agency with the draft.

I'm not confusing them. There is no way we can know if they are breaking their normal draft behavior until they draft. Belicheck can say they have done what they always did in FA this year but it just isn't true. Not saying at all that the trade will happen, but with the moves so far this year, "history" is much less persuasive IMO.

even IF they did does not mean the model is broken :)

a good team not only identifies a target it hits the target, thats all you attempt to accomplish in free agency. Bellicheck has been successful in the draft because of the system they use, there is absoultely nothing that changes this paradigm based upon off season moves other than the fact they've been successful & opens up other opportunties without the constraints of needs determining draft picks.

its just as likey they move out of the 1st rd. to a team who wants a player at say #24 & maximize that pick for all its worth. hey Atlanta has picks to play with (two 2nds the next two years) what happens if Reggie Nelson is still on the board @ #24 & the Falcons really want him, they would be motivated with the firepower to give up a pair of 2nds to move up just to get him, while New England still has a 1st & adds two more 2nds. this is what they do, not the only reason why they are successful year in & year out but it allows them flexability to spend in free agency to target a player or whatever else tickles Bellichecks fancy :poker:

I don't think NE would do this deal.

The Patriots do not have a 2nd round pick. They gave it up in the Wes Welker signing to Miami. NE needs these two picks to fill needs at S, LB and OL. Heck, they might even trade one of the picks to gain more picks later in the draft.

NE is alot like the Eagles. They do not get themselves in salary cap trouble, and they do not overpay for players, at all. I just don't see them making this deal.
