The following is a 95% accurate transcript I created over the past 20 minutes after watching the NFLN show with Matt Schaub on the Texans Cam. I typed it in shorthand as it was being broadcasted, then went back and expanded on it while my memory was fresh.

Most interesting thing to notice (at the very very end of this post) is Schefter came on after Schaub and ran down the whole Carr-Trent Green-Dolphins-Oakland thing.

Here's the interview as best I can portray it. You can probably go to NFL.com and see it yourself if you hate reading :)

----------------------

Eisen: How did this deal come about?

Schaub: It happened quickly, earlier this week. They talked to the Falcons and were able to work out a deal. I was excited to get to make it happen. (Mentioned the golf game with Kubiak again. Said they didn't keep score on front nine, but then kept score on back nine)

Next question: Were you surprised the Texans were interested, and was there any history there to go on?

Schaub: No, not really. There are other coaches I've worked with that spoke with Kubiak, people he's worked with and has crossed paths with. It was a natural fit for me. I've had 3 years in Atlanta and 3 yrs in Virginia playing in this type of system (WCO)...I am very acclimated to it, and it's just a natural fit.

Next question: The Texans passed up Vince Young, do you feel more pressure now?

Schaub: No I don't. No more than I have already put on myself. There's no more added burden than what I have put on myself. We're focused on winning a championship. And it's not just me... it's me, it's the team, the coaches, the whole organization is trying to make it happen.

Next question: What about your time behind Michael Vick?

Schaub: It was very valuable to be behind him, learning an NFL system , how it works, learning behind one of the most noticed athletes in the world. It was very valuable to see what he goes through, what I can expect when I get my opportunity.

Next question: Carr was the most sacked, did it worry you when you began the process of working on this deal?

Schaub: No. Coach Kubiak told me he's going to protect the QB. This team had some injuries up front last year, but looks healthy now, and there's a lot of talent up there and we're gonna make this thing work. But we're all going to be a cohesive group and get this thing done.

END OF INTERVIEW.

Eisen comes back later in the show, asks Schefter about David Carr's potential landing spots. This is what Schefter had to say:

Schefter: (To Rich Eisen) Rich, I think David ends up on the street. The Texans have been unable to find takers. Once he's released, which most people think he will be released, the teams most interested are (in this order, by the way) Minnesota, the Dolphins, the Raiders. If the Dolphins get Trent Green, which it appears that Trent is way out in front as the guy the Dolphins are most interested in, then the Raiders might look at Culpepper because the Dolphins would then have the same situation with Culpepper as Houston has with David--They will need to find a place for Culpepper and Oakland might be looking at him. Thinking about it, the Vikes might be the most logical place for David Carr.

I had to chuckle when he talked about playing golf with Kubiak.

I think I've heard him say it about 12 times now.

I think the guy likes to play golf, eh?

I'm not opposed to that. Nothing wrong w/having 3 QBs that can step in w/the potential to perform well should anyone go down.

Yeah. You don't know how hard it was for me to keep that little part of Schaub's answer in my post.

I wanted to just innocently "leave it out" because it's a statement that's swimming in half-truths and ambiguity.

Was realllllllly hard to type that. I actually paused and just sat here staring at my keyboard for about 20 seconds pondering if I could leave it out or not. But my educational background in journalism got the best of me...had to type as much of what he said as I could remember, regardless of my personal opinions on it.

Schaub probably has told Kubiak that we provide all the protection he needs. Probably told Kubiak that he can get the ball where it needs to be, etc., under the current protection that he's seen from the Texans o line.

I sense that Kubiak and Schaub told each other want they each wanted to hear. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Hulk75:

Good to hear from you.

I really figured you might not be back after the past few days' activities...that's not a slam against your character or anything, I just figured you and the family would be forced by David's agent to go into lockdown until things settle down a little. I say that because Rick Smith made it sound that a trade for David was virtually imminent and already down in principle.

Good to hear from you.

I can't wait till we all stop blaming the line for everything. We do have a lot of talent up there. 4 first day picks and some veteran back ups now. We need a Center and we are done.

The Texans have no bargaining power, that went out the window with the announcement that Schuab is the starting QB. Sometimes the Texans just don't know how to play the card game. Now it looks like they'll get nothing for Carr, as they usually do with players they want to get rid of.

I second that. They are not the best in the league but far from the worst. It is a work in progress but will get there.

This just underscores how bad they screwed the pooch last year...even admitted by Bob himself.

Umm....when you compensate the Falcons with what we compensated them for, in order to get a backup QB who has virtually no regular season track record, then I think you've already stated that Schaub will be the starting QB.

The bigger bonehead move would have been for Smith to act as if Schaub was our new backup QB. That would have looked ridiculous. The numbers of Schaub's contract also point to the idea that he's the bonified starter. You can't get around the numbers. There's zero chance David and Matt "battle it out" in camp as some have proposed. Two big salaries is always too much, especially for the QB spot. So, it was obvious that David was done

Everybody knows that David was done. Pretending otherwise is not going to drive up (or drive down) his trade value.

A team will trade us a very average pick for David. It'll seem underwhelming to us, the fans, but it'll at least be something. That's what I am feeling on this whole deal.

Miami is where David will land. Their owner is a class guy, like McNair. Wayne was overly nice to Saban, going to his house and saying he wanted Saban back...but that Saban had to follow his heart. That's class in the face of getting stabbed in the back. David ends up in Miami, IMO.

The O-Line was much improved last year and after lasy years draft I am optumistic but to say all we need is a Center and it is perfect, I disagree. Mainly because Winston did struggle at times last year. Also, no one knows about the injury to Spencer. IF, a big if Spencer is healthy, I would say OK go after the center, but no one knows at this point.

This is why I want Levi Brown or a trade down into 18 to 20 range and draft Staley who impressed at the workouts. This would pick up extra picks this year and maybe next year. Then if Spencer comes back at 100%, Brown or Spencer could wove to RT and move Winston to guard where I think he is better suited for. I know still need a Center, but I just want the most critical position upgraded. With that said I do love the signings that have been made this offseason and they have upgraded.

A co-worker of mine, who also is a member of this MB, said he thinks it comes down to how bad the Raiders want CJ in the draft. If they want him bad enough to pass on Russell and Quinn, then they have to get a QB in FA or a trade before the draft. And right now the only viable options out there for a QB with NFL experience are Carr and Green. I'm not sure how Greens contract compares to Carr's, but Carr is younger and probably more durable, plus, the new HC for Oakland, I believe, was a coach at Fresno St. when Carr was there. All of this makes sense to me and I think Carr could very well end up being traded to Oakland. JMHO!

I agree. Using the line to scapegoat all of Carr's problems is a cop-out, IMO. At some point, folks have to understand that bad decision making by the QB will make a o-line look bad.

I won't be surprised when our same linemen look a lot better this year.

Perhaps 31 other teams offered nothing of value. How is this our FO's fault? idonno:

No I am not assuming anything, I just think he is better suited for RG versus RT, I could be dead wrong. It is just my take on what I saw of him.

Just for the record I do not blame the O-line for everything, but Casserly did not do as much as he could have or should have to improve it.

Like I have said I love the direction Rick Smith has because it seems he actually has a direction.

Vinny,
I seem to recall(and I might be wrong) that Weary was a center coming out of college. What if we draft Levi brown and do the following?
Brown-Pitts-Weary-Spencer-Winston

This puts Spencer back at guard(which he played in college), and would give us Brown, Pitts, Spencer(and maybe even Winston) who could pinch hit in LT if need be.

It seems to me that Kalil is the best Center prospect and he is likely gone late first early second. I dont think he lasts until third round.
Thoughts?

Satele could slip to our 3rd Round pick. That would be a nice first day haul. 3 new starters on 1st Day.

1st - Landry/Hall/Gaines/Brown/Nelson
2nd - Matt Schaub
3rd - Samson Satele

Satele and Schaub fill our most glaring offensive needs and any of the aforementioned 1st Rounders would improve our defense. It's gonna all work out in the end. The Expansion Era is over.

latest update from Schefter on NFL.com

Friday, March 23
"The Miami Dolphins and quarterback Trent Green have all but reached a contract agreement; there no longer is an issue about whether those two sides can strike a deal. The issue is between the Dolphins and the Chiefs. If those two teams can reach a trade agreement, Green will become a Dolphin. Otherwise, Miami could opt to try to sign David Carr, who is expected to be released by the Houston Texans."
