Lovie Smith, who was Adam Archuleta's defensive coordinator in St. Louis, has been trying to acquire the safety since becoming the head coach in Chicago.

On Tuesday, the Bears completed a trade with the Redskins for the 29-year-old. Chicago gave up a 2007 draft choice, believed to be in the sixth round.

After five seasons in St. Louis, Archuleta struggled in his first season with the Redskins in 2006 and was scheduled to be a backup this season in Washington.

Not sorry to see him go but his poor year is more a bad reflection on Gregg Williams who campaigned to get him here and then couldn't use him properly. The Redskins should have spent that money on fixing their poor pass rush instead!

He'll probably do reasonably well in Chicago, Lovie has wanted him since he got there and AA knows that system well. I'm just glad the $5m bonus effectively got traded as well so the Redskins get off lightly cap wise compared to what would have happened had he stayed.

Won't the Skins feel stupid if he turns out to do better than expected in Chicago?! All they got was a conditional 6th rounder...i think?????

It's going to be hard for him to look any worst. Just the way things are sometimes, one mans gold is another mans rubbish! It was just not working out for him in DC, time for both sides to move on. Getting a 6th and also getting rid of his contract is a lot better than I expected a few weeks ago.

Archuletta has one foot on his NFL grave and is going to struggle to make the Bears I bet. The Skins got lit up week after week and Archuletta was miserable. Right now he is a kicked-up Matt Stevens and is a total liabilaty in coverage. Lovie Smith gets his man too late in his short career.

Whooaa! Matt Stevens, now there's a name from the past!

He's still into all of that and has his own special off-season program going on in Arizona.
