I know most of you won't like this but here goes:

Brady Quinn falls to us. We trade back with Carolina to 14 and pick up their second rounder.

1st
14) Reggie Nelson, FS, Florida

2nd
39) Ryan Kalil, C, USC
45) Darelle Revis, CB, Pittsburg

3rd
73) Aundra Allison, WR, East Carolina

4th
104) Kevin Kolb, QB, Houston

5th
135) Juwan Simpson, OLB, Alabama

6th
169) Brian Robinson, DE, Texas

7th
200) Ramonce Taylor, RB/WR, Texas College

I like the 7th round flyer.

I normally see Darelle Revis in the first round, but maybe he slips. And I like the Kolb, Simpson picks.

I like going secondary 2x in the first 2 round, but I would go with LaRon Landry and Dameion Hughes.

I love the trade down move and the pickup of the extra second. I thought Revis was a first rounder, but if he slips to the second I'd jump the to he stage to draft him. I am not relaly familiar with Allison and not in favor of Kolb or Taylor.

I would actually be happy if that happens. Unless we trade Carr I do not want Quinn in a Texans jersey next year.

Why would we trade down with Carolina when we need a QB more than they do? Delhomme is not that bad. He got them to a Super Bowl. And he played great in the actual game.

That's why it's a mock. My mock.

Carolina trading up for Brady Quinn, is not as ridiculous as you may think.

There is a possibility they may want to do that trade, so I included it in my mock.

sure that kalil and revis fall?

all 6 teams that pick before us in the 2nd need OL help. if kalil gets to the 2nd, he's not getting to us IMO.

Need to repick thirty-nine and forty-five. The rest of it is pretty good.

The only way we get those two there:

39) Ryan Kalil, C, USC
45) Darelle Revis, CB, Pittsburg

is if someone spikes the rooms coffee that morning with mescal and everyone in the draft room is stoned out of their collective minds. Awesome mock there though. I'd be pleased.

And Kalil isn't as second day Offensive lineman, has there been a change in the Xt line on lineman there ?

You're right Kalil and Revis may be slight stretches. But it could happen.

And as far as the sesond day O-line thing....You put those words in my mouth. I believe in upgrading the team the best way possible. I don't have silly rules about only taking blank position in blank round.

you've identified some of the best prospects in the draft that fill huge needs for the Texans. if I could take them right now & skip the draft all together then I'd do it :) however,

1. Brady Quinn will not be there #8
2. If he was the Texans would want more in return than a 2nd rd. pick otherwise they select him.
3. Ryan Kalil is a 1st rd. pick
4. Darrell Revis is a 1st rd. pick

They are late to mid first rounders at best. Is it really that hard to imagine them slipping to the top of the second from the bottom of the first.

You have: Houston, Hall, Ross, Hughes, and McCauley to go along with Revis....All those guys are ranked right around eachother...It just depends on who likes who... All of those guys aren't first rounders...

I remember Many had Winston as a late first early second rounder last year. He went in the third. We'll see on draft day.

Kalil is not as good as Nick Mangold, who went in the late first last year. Kalil does not fit every blocking scheme and the only teams that would look to draft him are Green Bay, Denver, Washington, and the Texans. They all have bigger needs than center in the 2nd and Washington doesn't even have a 2nd round pick.

I like Brian Robinson in the 6th, but I bet one of the 3-4 teams take him earlier than that...

So we trade Quinn for Nelson & Darrell Revis??

I like the 2nd round picks alot. They are realistic and would really help our team. I like who you have selected at #14, if we were to pick there that is one of the players I would expect us to look at.

xTru, give us a no trade down scenario. Say Carolina doesn't come through with the trade...how does your mock change?

P.S. Robison in the 6th? I thought he was more of a 4th rounder...I may be wrong though I've been on Spring Break in the keys for a week so I am a little bit behind.

Robison is a day 1 pick, he had the best measurables of all DL at the combine and that alone will get him to day 1.

Allison is a day 2 pick but Gonzalez, Smith or Davis could be there in the 3rd.

I disagree that OC is a postion of need for a 2nd RD pick. Staley or Ugoh makes better sense.

Revis will be gone by #45.

There are so many CBs projected in the late 1st-early 2nd that I would not be suprised if one falls to the late second-early 3rd.

Players rated in late 2nd to the 7th can go anywhere....It just depends on how teams draft...

P.S...Allison is rated higher than all those guys except Davis, who is rated ONE spot ahead of him (http://www.gbnreport.com/2007wrs.html)

Without a trade down, I'd still target Kalil if he's there, and I would definitely just take Quinn if he fell.

I like Kalil in round 2 also. Quinn is a question mark for me. I feel like if we drafted him he could turn into a pretty good quarterback. With good coaching in college and with Kubiak coaching him I feel like he could be successful. I like the way Brady Quinn moves in the pocket...I know he doesn't do it all the time, but alot of times I will see him side step a rusher and deliver an accurate pass (to almost all areas of the field).

Kalil, IMHO, is a true ZBS center. He should be able to pull and bring in a lot of stuff into the play book just like Kevin Mawae did when he was a young'un and playing with the Jets. It is the same reason Nick Mangold got picked in the first last draft. Could he fall ? Sure. But I think a lot of us are thinking now that his upside is too great for the teams at 33 through 38 would by pass. At least you've got one, a high end guy, picked Xt. That's 20% of the puzzel for sure.

I personally have felt for a while now...that McCauley and Hughes will fall out of the first. They got a sniff at the second teired guys at the combine. I'm betting the scouts, HCs and owners are going to go rewatch the film, look at the combine numbers and end up scratching thier collective heads at a couple of the top prospects. We'll see.

Kalil isn't as good as Mangold IMHO...

And the problem with giving guys draft grades is that you may have 60 players with 1st round grades, but only 32 teams picking for specific needs...I have seen 5 or 6 corners projected to be first rounders, but in all likely hood there will only be 3 or 4 tops that get drafted in the first, and I honestly believe that's pushing it.

In this draft the late first early second is going to be prime. There is so much talent in that area that those guys can go just about anywhere between 20-39 where we pick...

Think about all the guys you have that are projected in that area:

Meachem, Bowe, Rice, Jarret, Stanton,Brian Leonard, Michael Bush, Greg olsen, Zach Miller, Staley, Ugoh, Grubbs, Blaylock, Kalil, Jarvis Moss, Anthony Spencer, Adam Carriker, Lamar Woodley, Mebane, Justin Harrell, Marcus Thomas, Quin Pitcock, Lawrence Timmons, Jon Beason, Paul Poslunnzsny, Rufus Alexander, Patrick Willis, Brandon Siler, H.B blades, Ross, Revis, Hughes, McCauley, Nelson, Merriweather, Griffin, Weddle, Stanton...Plus more that I'm sure I missed...

That's almost a whole rounds worth of players that can go from 20-39 where we pick in the second....About 32 players for 19 slots....

There is no way you can convince me that one of these guys WON'T fall, because you just don't know.

1st
14) Reggie Nelson, FS, Florida-i like a safety here alot more than at #8

2nd
39) Ryan Kalil, C, USC-the team needs OL in general, and Kalil would be a good start.
45) Darelle Revis, CB, Pittsburgh

3rd
73) Aundra Allison, WR, East Carolina- i have allison here in my mock also, dude has a strong chance to eaern the #2 slot in time.

4th
104) Kevin Kolb, QB, Houston-if Kolb can convince the team that he can get over his "system" label, i think he is a good fit for the Texans.
5th
135) Juwan Simpson, OLB, Alabama-get Ryans' old running mate, the pedigree seems to be there.
6th
169) Brian Robison, DE, Texas-the team could use another pass rushing threat opposite #90, and Robison would be excellent value here. not sure if he falls this far.
7th
200) Ramonce Taylor, RB/WR, Texas College-not too fond of taylor, but he could be the best talent available here. he might be a special teams option with mathis injury situation.

pretty fair assessment IMHO. you cant fix every hole in one offseason, but you list some players who could come in right away and contribute opening day. i like the added defensive backfield help the most.

So...what's to be proven now that you've adjusted your paradime and recoded your original Mock ? And, that "none of us can convince you" of your new paradime ?

I do not believe that Reevis, the second or third rated CB on the board with return skills, will make it to the 39. I don't believe Kalil the top rated ZBS center will be there either. As to the number of people you have rated where...ho hum.

What are you talking about adjusting my mock ?

Someone asked me what I'd do without the trade scenario and I answered.

And it doesn't matter where YOU have Revis....People have these guys rated differently you know...

You have to take into account: Team needs, Players still on the board, and how highly a team rates a guy....Revis can be anywhere from the 3rd to the 6th corner taken....

Im still trying to figure out why you are acting like it's etched in stone that Kalil and Revis won't be there when it's clear that they indeed have a good chance of being there...

Don't be so stuck in your ways. It's o.k to think outside the box every once in a while.
