UFA DE/OLB Antwan Peek is visiting Cleveland today (http://blog.cleveland.com/sports/2007/03/steinbach_in_town_but_might_no.html).

TAKE A PEEK: Houston outside linebacker Antwan Peek also was visiting with the Browns today. Peek is available because he doesn't fit as an end in the Houston 4-3 defense.

Peek didn't fit in with the 4-3, but he wasn't a very good 34 OLB, either.

He fits in an Escalade. Other than that, he hasn't done squat. However, I am sure he will become an all-pro for the Browns.

Anyone want Steve Foley back?

Good for him, I think he was a better LB. Hopefully Babin can step it up this year, I think he started to understand his role as a reserve DE. I have faith in Babin.

Even if there is no substance to your story, I think some 3-4 team will grab him.

STEINBACH SIGNS WITH THE BROWNS

Several published reports confirm that the Cleveland Browns have signed offensive lineman Eric Steinbach. The deal is worth $49.5 million over seven years.

Steinbach is expected to play right tackle for the Browns.

The deal exceeds by $500,00 the contract signed last season by guard Steve Hutchinson with the Vikings.

We reported on Thursday night that Steinbach already had an agreement in principle with the Browns. And, let's face it, there's no way that much money changed hands based on one day.

Foley's back on the market if I'm not mistaken. He was cut on Thursday

Is he even able to play? Isn't he the guy that was shot a little while back? I know we need players but I prefer the ones without bullet holes.

So I guess this means that Babin wins the Babin vs. Peek wars ?
I never was sure which player the new regime preferred, and little doubt
now unless I wakeup in the morning and find out Babin has also been cut.

To me, you need to fuse those two into one player. Peek had speed and burst with no moves, and Babin had moves without a true burst. In one body, a very player in two what he had for the last three years.

Babin was timed at 4.6 in the forty at the combine so speed is not a problem. Probably needs better techniques but did lead the club in sacks last year. Although that's not saying much, it's probably not bad for a part-time guy. Peek I'm sure will probably end up with a 3-4 defense somewhere. Good luck to him.

Yea, but timing off the ball matters more the running forty yards. He might be slow to start off with then burst out of know where in the last 20 yards. Know He might be fast off the start, but just cuase your fast in the forty does not mean your fast off the line.

Browns agreed to terms with OLB Antwan Peek on a multi-year contract.
We like it. If the 6-3/250-pound Peek can stay healthy, he'll get to the passer. Cleveland didn't need a star edge rusher as much as offensive line help, and addressed that with Eric Steinbach. Peek, 27, is worth a gamble as a possible replacement for Willie McGinest on the outside.

Officially, Peek is gone. Under Romeo Crennel, he's going to flourish. We go up against him next season, where I expect he'll have the game of his career.

Texans defensive end Antwan Peek signed a contract with the Cleveland Browns on Saturday night.

No contract terms were for immediately available for Peek, a four-year veteran who will play outside linebacker in the Browns' 3-4 defense.

When the Texans switched from a 3-4 to 4-3 under coach Gary Kubiak and defensive coordinator Richard Smith, Peek was moved from linebacker to defensive end. He was injured much of last season and fell out of favor with the coaches.

Should be quite a duel between he and Winslow to see who can get called for more boneheaded penalties.

Of course you're right, technically.
But I would imagine they atleast showed some interest in him. They did last year after tendering value for him when he was a RFA. But just like with Carr, after coaching him for a year they aren't really that interested in keeping him.

Yep, all of one sack last year. I remember that one too; it was on Vince Young. I think one of the Titan OL seemed to throw him into Vince more than anything. Peek was good for locker room fodder and quotes, though.

I am just glad he gets to leave a city full of fair weather fans. Being from cincy i don't really like the browns, but at least they are a loyal city. He is going to be on a team that is improving and he will be with a line where he will get chances to show his talents.

one of the Texans most talented, mis-used, under achieving draft picks. a natural pass rusher off the edge (mix of speed/strength) but seemed to lack the intelligence (wonderlick 13) to pick up schemes, make adjustments & frankly just stay healthy.

going back to a system that uses the 3-4 as OLB.

I guess this shows what Dunta Robinson knows. In case you don't remember during the offseason last year Dunta complained, imagine that, that the Texans should run a 4-3 defense because Babin and Peek are DE's not OLB's. His reasoning was based on where they played in college and not on how they projected to the NFL. Well, Dunta, it looks like the Browns and Peek disagree with you. This is just another case where Dunta speaks out of hand and is wrong. It isn't the Texans running the 4-3 that I disagree with Robinson about. It is his notion that Peek and Babin would make better 4-3 DE's then 3-4 OLB's. I certainly agree that they can be used as a stop gap measure DE during the transition period but ultimately they will be replaced with real 4-3 DE's.

After securing two offensive linemen early on, the Browns' latest free agent pickup boosts the defense.

Antwan Peek, who signed a three-year contract with the team Saturday night, provides depth and athleticism at outside linebacker. He played his first three years in the Texans' 3-4 defense and became expendable because the Texans switched to a 4-3 last season.

Peek, 27, had his best year in 2005, recording 6 sacks, 46 tackles, 2 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries.

He's a native of Cincinnati who entered the league as a third round draft pick out of the University of Cincinnati in 2003.
