Wiegert dead $$$ = $2.5 million. The exact amount of what he was scheduled to make in salary for '07.

Not unexpected but our OTs going as of now are: Spencer (injured), Salaam, Winston, Bedell. That's a scary thought.

Hmmm....makes one wonder why he was cut. He could've at least been used for depth.:drunk:

Salaam is an UFA as of now so its only one legged Spencer, Bedell and Winston

I like the guy as a player, but I hope you're right. He's way to expensive for what we get out of him.

I know he's old and "not good", but I wonder if Salaam will be asked back on the cheap...for depth, of course.

Has Bedell ever gotten into a game? I remember seeing him on the sidelines a lot last season.

I think he actually counted for $3.125 million against the cap. ($2.5 mil salary, $625,000 allocated bonus)

So we would save $625,000 in cap room.

We should give it to some hobo and have them be our punter. Couldn't be worse than Stanley.

He came in for a few plays when Salaam got hurt during a game. I can't remember which one, but if I remember right he got abused pretty well while he was in there.

This is the one of the sad parts to the game. Zach was/is an absolutely stand up guy, the kind that anyone would be proud to be on a team with.

Thanks Zach for everything and best of luck to you in the future...this Texan fan will always by a Wiegert fan.

Does this say along with Kube's recent comment that Spencer was more than 50% to return to play, that Charles might be ok by beginning of season? I still see 2 tackles being picked in draft or f/a. One of each I suspect.

you save the difference in Weigerts cap figure LESS the unamortized signing bonus. they had to get some savings on it. dont know his contract.

my question is why not wait until after June 1 to do it? Arent they able to spread the cap hit over two years still? Only thing I can think of is they want to purge this year, take it on the chin, and then have the dead money off the books for next year.

I wonder if they already have a deal struck with the lineman from the bengals who is now a FA. Hummm:hmmm:

Leonard Davis should get a look for us now. I know alot of people dont like his size and speed but I think he would make a great addition to our line.

Besides im not taking Levi Brown #8 overall. Just not happening.

the problem with zach wiegert was health...when he played (except playing against vanden bosch) he played well...but at his age and money level he just isn't worth it...i don't think he'll get another chance either due to age and injuries...so here's to a good retirement at the age of 34 wiegert enjoy

How can we say he is "not good" when he kept Dwight freeney off of David in two seperate games this year?? He also kept Jason Taylor, & Demarcus ware away from David.

I have to think there is a behind the scenes deal in place that we don't know about. IMO Zach has done a decent job for us, and with so many questions about the O-Line (Spencer's health, Winston's readiness to start) I can't see them letting him go without a commitment from a solid upgrade in place. It's gonna be an interesting off season... Good luck Rick!

Thanks Zach, and best of luck.

heres an interesting quote:

""I talked to Coach (Gary) Kubiak, and he said if you get out there in free agency and don't find (an offer) you like, we'd like to have you back at a lower (salary cap) number," Wiegert said."

What is wrong with people, its clear you have no idea about projected draft picks, he will be lucky to make it past the 2 spot

We could trade up and get this guy . I was just asking what the people on this board thought about the idea.Considering you are an aggie , I know that your opinion will be clouded at best. I think that this guy would not be a bad pick for us considering we still lack depth at the O line position.

Seth Wand was told the same thing. (It was in the release announcement, but I'm not looking that up.) I'm not holding my breath that Zach returns. On the other hand, he had a hard time keeping up last year during games, so I agree with the release. Good luck to him, though.

I think your right about them willing to take Zach back at a lower number. That is a common practice in the NFL.
As for all the hype about Thomas, I'm not real sure. His combine numbers don't match up to Winston's last year. In fact if ERic was in this draft he would have finished again as the top O-tackle in the combine. I still think we got a steal with him and with a year under his belt he is ready to shine for us.

i for one don't want to see weigert back...i think it's time to move on and see winston take over the RT position...i know some people want to say he would be better at guard but so would almost every tackle in the game...i think with a full training camp as the starter and a full season at the position he would be a stud by mid-season...let eric play and see how he does...as for seth wand i personally think we cut ties with him too soon...i think he could have helped us greatly last season once spencer went down...brad bedell is a guy i would like to see compete with winston for the RT position also

I'd rather see Brad Bedell in a different uniform. replacing him should be about as difficult as replacing YKW.

He didn't do crap anyway... what difference does it make who you replace him with.
