INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Ryan Harris plans to put his gubernatorial aspirations on hold indefinitely.

The offensive lineman from Notre Dame has more immediate goals, like chasing a big payday in the NFL. "Football is my dream, something I've worked for since I started playing the game," Harris said Thursday at the NFL scouting combine. "But I think politics is a good avenue to affect people's lives. I believe in this country and this system of government." http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-nflcombine-harris&prov=ap&type=lgns

Are we sure that Romance Taylor wasn't just high?

No way the Texans spend a draft pick on him. Maybe as an undrafted free agent.

S. Young would be a great zone runner for us IMO. He runs hard and doesn't try and hit the homerun everytime. He is very used to picking up the yards that he is supposed to.

R. Taylor is a Junior isnt he? I actually thought he was a sophomore...maybe he is a sophomore(RS).

yeah--i dont think he played at all in 2006. stats from 2005.

2005- 76 carries, 513 yards (12 tds) 6.8 yards per carry
27 receptions, 265 (3 tds) 9.8 yards per reception

I don't know what the "true story" on Taylor is... he's shown bad judgment in the past, that's for sure. He's a 1st-2nd round talent if you throw aside character concerns. Thought some of his own athleticism went to his head on the field in 2005... tried to turn everything into a Reggie Bush play instead of taking what was there. Immaturity on and off field, etc.

If he learned his lesson, then he will be an excellent NFL player. He's gotta put up jaw-dropping numbers and seem like a really good kid to get first day consideration. His ceiling isn't that different than Reggie Bush's, his floor is considerably lower.

Ryan Harris may be a great kid... but he's not a prospect that I really love. Good athlete, not huge or exceptionally strong, back surgery is an issue, never dominated on field. I think he's getting a lot of publicity because of his post-football ambitions, the MTV episode, and where he played. Kid certainly enjoys the spotlight and has his head on straight, has good feet. he has some assets... just not for me... like to see a bit more power and nastiness. Might be a good ZBS fit though, save the nastiness.

Sounds like a good fit for ZB system. Listed at 6'4", 302 lbs, and ran a 4.96 in the 40. But, with them looking at Guards, it might mean they will move McKinney back to Center for good. :hmmm:

R Taylor was one of two RB's I listed in the "Draftnik of the Year Contest" with L Booker being the other. If Peterson isn't available to us in the first I feel the team may wait to rd 3 or 4 to look for a RB. I'm hoping one of these will be available, but looks like they both are gaining notice.

I am hoping that Smith will be able to sway McNair to give a little leeway on drafting guys with problems in their past. After reading todays article on Taylor he just may be the guy you would want to make an exeception for...idonno:

Yeah I forget if it was Vermeil or Mayock, but the comment was " He took a bad turn in college and hasn't recovered. It happens a lot with some college guys. They make a bad decidsion and it just snow balls" Russell just ate and lounged away his shot. I doubt anyone will throw a pick at the guy now. He hasn't been working out for sure. Need to find another guy there.

Being a Longhorn, I'd be happy to see Selvin on the Texans. However, with as many holes as the Texans have, I don't see why they would take Selvin unless he is available late in the draft. Selvin is a big-bruiser of a RB, and great for 3rd and inches on the goalline. But that is the role Dayne plays.

Ramonce Taylor was a hotshot and a showboat. I remember he caused a fuss at a Baylor game because of his showboating. Added with the drug charges, and he just doesn't seem like the kind of player the Texans FO wants.

On the other hand, I cannot deny the man's abilities. He was a phenomenal athlete, and ying to Selvin's yang. He is the kind of running back the Texans desperately need right now.

The Texans said they were looking for playmakers...

We could possibly get Ramonce in the 4th or 5th...No way he doesn't get drafted...

He had the one major problem, but other than that I haven't heard much ruckus regarding his conduct....I'm sure the team asked him about that, and from the looks of it, it looks like he gave a pretty good response.

I'd love for Ramonce to be a Texan...He was one of my favorite players at Texas...

I hope Taylor his truly changed by the last year. If the teams feel he has grown up and has learned to stay away from trouble then he should be a 1st day pick. If the team feels it was an act put on by a kid trying to get job, stay away from him. I am sure the scouts and team will be looking real hard at this kid if they like him.

Anyone know what he ran at the combine?

David's Busted Carr
02-26-2007, 11:14 AM
Just my thoughts on the players the Texans have been linked with after watching the combine this weekend.

1) Adrian Peterson (RB, OK)- Texans can forget it after his ridiculous combine (not that I really thought we had much chance anyway).

2) Alan Branch (DT, Mich)- Was NOT impressed with his physique. He looked flabby and out of shape. I think he's got bust written all over him. Seems like the type of player that might balloon up and not care after getting his money.

3) Levi Brown (OT, Penn St.) - Was not overly impressive. Beginning to agree he is not worth the #8 pick. If we want him I think we should try to trade down into the teens and could probably still get him.

4) Amobi Okoye (DT, LOUS)- I'd take him over Branch. He looks like a freak and being as young as he is could be a rock for a LONG time!

5) LaRon Landry (S, LSU)- He is your typical solid player. He's not great at anything, but is good at everything.

6) Brady Quinn (QB, ND)- Can't rule him out. Proved to be alot stronger than people think with 24 reps with the weights. If he's sitting there at #8 and Carr is indeed traded, could be interesting.

Players on the rise:

1) Ryan Kalil (C, ND)- This guy will be the anchor of an OL for a long time. Problem is I think he worked himself into the end of the first round which means the Texans won't get a shot at him in the 2nd.

2) Jason Hill (WR, WSU) - Guy ran faster than Calvin Johnson in the 40 and caught every ball thrown at him. Would be a fantastic #2 option opposite Andre.

3) Justin Blaylock (OG, Texas) - I think this guy might be the best guard in the draft. Would be a steal in the 2nd round.

Add Kolb to that list
INDIANAPOLIS - The beauty of Kevin Kolb's workout Sunday was in the eye of the beholder.

Kolb, who is trying to break out of a logjam and emerge as the third quarterback in the NFL draft behind JaMarcus Russell and Brady Quinn, didn't throw as well as some scouts would have liked, but he was pleased with his experience at the NFL combine.

"I think I did pretty well," Kolb said after his workout at the RCA Dome. "I got good feedback from coaches and scouts.

"I felt very confident going in. I did what I wanted to do, which was to be consistent with my throws. The one thing I didn't do today that I wanted to do was to throw a good deep ball.

"Overall, I was happy with what I accomplished here, including my tests and interviews. I just feel good about the entire experience."

Kolb worked out with the first group of quarterbacks. He wasn't as fast as some scouts thought he would be, considering how mobile he was at the University of Houston.

His best time in the 40-yard dash was 4.78 seconds. His velocity was 55.3 mph, which placed him sixth among quarterbacks.

Mixed reviews
Several scouts and coaches surveyed asked not to be identified. One described Kolb's workout as "mediocre." Another called it "average." Another said "above average."

An AFC head coach who watched Kolb said, "I didn't realize that kid was this good."

Unlike Russell and Quinn, Kolb didn't shy away from throwing in front of every coach, general manager and scout in the NFL.

"This is just another step in the evaluation process," said Tennessee's C.O. Brocato, who's in his 34th year of scouting players. "We take into consideration that a quarterback's working with receivers for the first time. And whether you believe it or not, it tells us something when the kid's not afraid to put it on the line here.

"I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I like Kevin Kolb, and I still think he's going in the second round."

No matter what they do with David Carr, the Texans are expected to draft a quarterback, probably in the second or third round.

"Kolb didn't do anything to hurt himself," Texans coach Gary Kubiak said. "He can make every throw. I've been real impressed with the kid."

Before the combine, Kolb prepared with Jerry Rhome, who spent 33 years in the NFL as a quarterback, quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator. Part of Kolb's preparation with Rhome was learning the best way to explain to coaches exactly what he did in the Cougars' system. He aced that test with every team.

"I was very impressed in our interview with him," Texans general manager Rick Smith said. "He's very intelligent. He did a great job of explaining his scheme as it relates to a traditional pro scheme."

Kubiak has become a Kolb fan. The interview only reinforced Kubiak's evaluation.

"Our interview with Kolb was one of the best I've ever had," Kubiak said. "He's just such an impressive person. I really like him."

On Saturday, Kolb met with the Texans, Lions, Browns, Redskins, Saints, Eagles and Bills.

Comfortable with Texans
"I was happy with all my interviews," Kolb said. "But I thought I had an incredible interview with the Texans. We just seemed to click. I felt so comfortable with them. I think they were pleased, too.

"They asked me if I thought I could be the hometown guy? They asked me if I thought I could play if something happened to Carr? I told them yes and yes."

Kolb returned to Houston to continue his preparation for the draft. The next big event for him is March 23, the Cougars' pro day. Kolb will throw for the scouts on familiar turf with his receivers at UH.

Was he driving a Civic? lol. I think Kolb would be good to take in the 3rd if he is available there. We don't need someone to start the first game. DC could last us until Kolb is ready to play, wether that take half a season, or a full season.

Yes on #4! Thank you for noticing some things about these players that I have thought for awhile now. I really wish the Texans would get Okoye in the 1st and not go after Branch. If they want Brown in the 1st, I could live with that too if they trade down and get some extra picks.

Why is everyone discounting Eric Moulds and saying we need a #2 option at WR? I think Meachem would be a guy to bring in with our 2nd round pick. Assuming he didn't elevate himself to late 1st round with his impressive workout.

I have been foaming at the mouth for Okoye next to Mario. Come back to this when we draft him. He did not hurt his status at all today, and he is still raw. Championship teams are built up front in the trenches, and the more you can free up Mario, the better. If we do not get a nice FA DT, look for this pick at #8, unless AP is there. I do think this Kolb thing is interesting, though.

Even if I do not believe his story, the bottom line is this is his only incident. I do not count the show boating stories that is not even close to this level of stuff. Claret never showed the dedication training for combines and prodays. That should show a strong sign for his new commitment. I say third round.

if stanton was there, you think they'd take him over kolb?
i'm sure most teams haev stanton higher on their boards than kolb. houston included.
