1. Oak............AP RB.................... Why? Al hates QB's in one and he always does it his way. I was convinced of changing this slot from JR to AP by Terry Robiske. AL has taken only one QB in round one. He can get a QB in two. He cant find AP type in two.

2. Det............Joe Thomas LT. Martz did not get a HC job so he is going to convince Millen to get smart and take the new Orlando Pace for this offense.

3.Clev.............Quinn QB.....................why? because they need him badly and RC and Weis connection is too strong. RC trusts Weis more than he should. This move could get him fired.

4.TB...............JR QB..............why? because Gruden will never let a QB with that kinda gun get away even though he covets Okoye and Kiffin covets Carriker.....................

5.AZ..............CJ WR.............they need a OL more than anything so a trade down here makes too much sense.....CJ and the DE make this slot hot as shiyt ..................historically slot six is where most GM's start to think trade................DE or DT make this a very valuable slot and this is plan B for the Cards............. CJ is too good to pass here............ and they could easily turn around and trade Boldin or Fitz to get Levi Brown or another OL in this first round..............

6.Wash............Alan Branch DT Why? they were 27th against the run and Joe Salevea is likely going to miss 07 with an injury again DE is a big plan B possibility.............this was my toughest pick in round one because cerrato is a ticking bomb

7.Minn.............DE Anderson...................they need a pass rusher as they are horrible against the pass and EJames has busted and Udeze is a clone of Anthony Weaver............good run stuffer who has no moves. WR is plan B

8.Houston............Levi Brown LT...............finally they make a smart selection..............many think reach..........but no one makes them better unless AP falls to them

9.Mia................Okoye DT.............why? they need one with their DL older than any other DL in the league and they are now fully entrenched to a 3-4 with the resigning of Dom Capers...............great pick that allows them to dump KCarters contract.

10.Atl................Landry S.................why? Milloy sucks ass............ask any dirty bird.

11.SF.................Carrriker DE Why? He fits their biggest need and he fits their scheme...............he is the perfect bookend to Manny Lawson for Mike Nolan who is all about his front seven.

12.Buff................Lynch RB ..............why? Willis has one yr left on a deal and he has made it clear no one wants to shuffle out of Buffalo more then him...............since both DT are gone and this is their real need area................ and Carriker is also gone.............its time to replace Willis and use him as trade bait to the Jets...........they have their first and two two's

13.Rams................Adams DE................why? they are desparate for a DT but no one has the grade here............they could reach for Harrell or Tyler here but I think they could draft IBruce replacement since they will loose KCurtis too. Adams represents too much value.

14.Car.............LB Willis..............Why? Dan Morgan has had 8 concussions and is a close to the end of his deal? any other questions?

15.Pitts.............Pouluszny OLB..............why? He is just a football player and Joey Porter is on the wrong side of thirty and his deal is also about up..............he is a local boy as well and Mike Tomlin is a total D HC.......Steelers also could go OT is Levi fell to them..................other possibility is Mike Bush here to be the new Bettis.

16. GB.............Bush RB Why? A reach ? maybe but the Steelers love this cat too...............They have no RB left in GB because Green is an UFA and they dumped Davenport and Gado...............they want Lynch but he is already in Buffalo.

17.Jags..............Nelson S...............fits a need since Deon grant is an UFA and DD is coming off a serious knee injury for the second straight yr............

18.Bengals..............Johnson DE.............replaces Justin Smith and gives them three bulldogs as DE........Moss cant be a Bengal given his history............................Pollack's injury mandates this pick.

19.Titans............Moss DE...........a reach but they are hoping for a new Kearse. Other possibilities here are Bowe or Revis or CHouston they can go so many ways they will let the board come to them

20.Giants..............Hall CB ..............why? take a look at their roster and tell me why not? If a RB slips.............they could go there(tiki factor). LB is likely plan B if there guy is not there.

21.Denver..................Revis CB................Why? Death of DW mandates it................they have terrible depth at CB.

22. Dal..............Griffin S why? look at any film of RW covering SMoss any yr..............that is why.

23.KC..............Ugoh OT/G why? 3/5 of the OL is now retired.............they love his athletic upside for either OG or OT.

24.NE..................Bowe WR..................why? fits a need and is great value here....................

25.Jets............Houston CB.............why? they have huge needs at DT/DE and OLB and CB and RB................no one merits the slot...........this is where the draft falls off................Dark horse selection is Sears OT. Mangin could also go LB cause Vilma is a liability in a 3-4

26.Philly...............QMoses DE................why? they see too much value with him and they have lost Burgess two yrs ago and never replaced him.............. and likely will let Kearse go after the draft given his number and injury history.............this helps letting him go easier.............they have JThomas and Darren Howard...............as their only true DE's................

27. NO..............Ross CB/S why? see any Fred Thomas film.............also they have Roman Harper's ACL to worry about.

28.NE................Leonard RB/FB..............perfect Pat.............totally versatile and he will replace Dillons touches next yr after he is done.....Faulk is alos aging and the Pats use him huge............they need another back................CD is 33 yrs old now. Maroney is Mr outside..............Leonard is great between the tackles and is a great fit for their pass game with Faulk. Pats could go OL or WR again..........no CB because I have them tagging Asante..............

29.Balt................Sears OT/G.............why? Pashos is a FA and Ogden is living on rep...........its time to get a new stud. Any other OL is plan B here.

30.SD................Ginn WR..............why? Keenan is 38 and is done and they have very little talent out wide...........they need him on ST as well. OG is plan B if they let Diehlman walk....................

31.Chicago..............Miller TE...............Why? They could take a WR here because there is value in that position............but no team outside of NO needs a TE more than Chicago.........and Miller is the only TE worthy of a day selection. Plan C is an OLB or S like Alexander to replace Briggs or Merriweather to replace the oft injured Brown

32. Indy............BDavis LB.............no draftee fits a scheme better..........my bet is Polian steals money from everywhere to tag Freeny and cuts June loose and replaces him with a clone in Davis. Davis is a tampa two only LB.

Post Super Bowl mock 3.5 days before the Super Bowl? Interesting...

Interesting take on things, I don't agree with several of the picks in there (esp. Calvin Johnson to the Cards, that is the one team I don't see looking at him at all and then Brian Leonard being anywhere near the 1st round, he may be their type of player but I seriously doubt he even sniffs the 1st day much less the 1st round. He is more of a HB that played FB and is at best a low 3rd round caliber HB, his skills as a FB aren't anything to write home about so that won't crank up his draft stock). I also don't see us taking Levi Brown, for the record the 49ers run a 3-4 so I wouldn't consider Manny Lawson a bookend there as he's an OLB, but Carriker would be an option for them, I don't see the Bills taking Lynch or the Packers taking Bush, and a few others, but at this point no one can really say for sure and this may end up being a more accurate mock than some of the experts like Kiper.

i tried to match needs............but the key to this draft is Oak Hou and buff..............they will set the tone.............Houston could easily go CB or S but there is a huge drop off after thomas and Brown..............they have to get better upfront................Houston could go tons of ways but there is no way AP makes it to you this low.

lol russell is such a horrible fit in gruden's offense. almost as bad of a fit as okoye in miami's defense. the guy's a 3-tech, he's no DE, and if he was, we already have matt roth. pretty bad mock.

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Why not just trade down and draft an O-lineman yourself and pick up some extra picks in the process. Why would you mess up the chemistry that Leinart and his recievers have formed ? Arizona already has three good recievers. Why would you take the chance of someone wanting to trade a player that they just drafted. What if the team that drafts Levi Brown, already has two good recievers ?

I will go on record and say, "there is no way the Arizona Cardinals draft Calvin Johnson, even if he is on the board."

I am gonna agree that there is no way the Cards draft CJ, Boldin & Fitz are amazing and already have a good chemistry with Leinart. The only way they pick up CJ is in a trade situation with another team and if Thomas is off the board and they feel like they can trade down and still get a player that they want.

nope, gruden won't draft russell. makes no sense. gruden wants his guys that fit his system. bruce gradkowski fits his system. there is a world of difference between gradkowski and russell.

okoye COULD play in a 3-4, but he's such a better fit for a tampa 2 defense it's amazing. carriker is no DT. he COULD play it, but that doesn't mean you'll draft him to play the spot, unless you're an *****. i mean, warren sapp COULD play tight end, but you're not going to draft for that, are ya?

with our huge need at NT and matt roth taking over for kevin carter one day, okoye makes no sense. not that i would be completely against the pick, because he's absurdly talented regardless. but i know quite a bit more. i remember your epic 8-team trade scenario before last year's draft.

won't even bother addressing the absurdity of the cards drafting calvin johnson. mainly because there's 0% chance the bucs let him pass.

He is a good receiver and does a good job turning the ball up the field. He may be the most overhyped player in this draft... eventually I see him being a good NFL player, but I've never seen a college running back who averaged 4 yards per carry get so much love.

Colts went Wayne and Clark after having a 4000 yd passer and Harrison ..............Lions also went WR three yrs ina row............but for different reasons................CJ is a Moss without baggage...........you dont pass on him at AZ spot...............Wisenhunt is a guy who tried to talk Cowher and the Rooneys out of dumping Burress because he covets big fast WR.............no way Wisenhunt passes on CJ there................they will trade Boldin for an OL likely to Minn and get Minn 7th and a second rounder to nab another OL...............its the smart mans move.

That all may be true... but why draft a guy in the 1st when you can get him in the 2nd or 3rd. A team like the Pats probably draft him, but any of the teams drafting 1-20 will pass as he's just not worth the pick. He doesn't have the track record or speed to indicate he'll be a starting NFL halfback. I like the guy a lot... but he's overhyped. He's a piece you add to a very good team, not a core guy you build around. He's nifty and versatile, but not terribly marketable to a lot of teams out there.

I actually like the chances you take with this mock... I just think Leonard is a miss here.

agreed. Everyone right now is in love with Waddel also from utah. Put a stop watch to him, they're going to fall out of love pretty quick. I loved the Ruetgers story. I just think a lot of folks are falling in love with the story and over looking his warts. The wolf in New England won't fall for that. They may well take him. I'll believe the first round when I see it. I see Larry Czonka light. He's a nice h-back...with some versitility. What's that worth ? Where did Criss Cooley go when he came out ? That's another point....with the gaggle they have a tight end that basically does what Leonard does in pass paterns, why would his versitlity jump him up to first round prospect in Bilichick's eyes ? I don't see it. What I see, as with Waddle, man crush.

nope, gruden won't draft russell. makes no sense. gruden wants his guys that fit his system. bruce gradkowski fits his system. there is a world of difference between gradkowski and russell.

I would tend to agree. If the Buccaneers are going to take a QB and have the luxury of picking between Russell and Quinn I think Quinn would be the pick. Look at the QBs that Gruden has had in his head coaching tenure: Jeff George and Rich Gannon in Oakland, Brad Johnson, Brian Griese, Chris Simms, and then Bruce Gradkwoski in Tampa, Quinn looks much more like them than Russell does. Honestly, I think the Raiders are the only team in the top 10 picks in the draft that would take Russell over Quinn if given the choice, maybe the Vikings would too but I don't see them taking either of them anyways.

okoye COULD play in a 3-4, but he's such a better fit for a tampa 2 defense it's amazing. carriker is no DT. he COULD play it, but that doesn't mean you'll draft him to play the spot, unless you're an *****. i mean, warren sapp COULD play tight end, but you're not going to draft for that, are ya?

I agree. I think Alan Branch is likely a better fit in a 3-4 system than in a 4-3, and if he does go to a 4-3 system he wouldn't fit too well in a tampa cover 2 system that relies so heavily on getting a pass rush with just their front four guys. Many of the other top DTs in this draft (Okoye, Tyler, probably Pitcock, Brown, and Mebane) are all more of the penetrating type of DTs as opposed to the gap-clogging linemen that are desirable in a 3-4 and would be better suited for a 4-3 and could all be pretty successful in a tampa 2 scheme. I think Ryan McBean is probably best suited for a 3-4 DE, maybe a SDE in a 4-3 but likewise not a tampa 2 system, maybe he can be a real 4-3 DT if he gains 20+ pounds. Similarly I think a few of the DEs in this draft are probably better fits in a 3-4 than a 4-3, Adam Carriker and Ray McDonald come to mind first. Carriker could be good in a 4-3 as well as a DE or even a DT, but I don't think he provides too much pass rushing ability off the edge so that might not be his optimal position, and he also isn't a good fit as a DE in a tampa 2 scheme.

won't even bother addressing the absurdity of the cards drafting calvin johnson. mainly because there's 0% chance the bucs let him pass.

I also would have a hard time seeing the Cardinals taking Calvin Johnson. He is the best overall player in this draft, but with two Pro Bowlers already at the WR position and Bryant Johnson as a good 3rd option there isn't much room to add another top-end guy, and with some other dire needs like OLine and a couple spots on defense they'd be much better suited to trade down with someone and grab someone at a position they somewhat need and acquire an extra pick or two in the process.

agreed. Everyone right now is in love with Waddel also from utah. Put a stop watch to him, they're going to fall out of love pretty quick. I loved the Ruetgers story. Agreed, I don't understand the obsession some have with Weddle. I think he is a solid prospect (definitely the 5th best S available behind Landry, Meriweather, Nelson, and Griffin and probably a legitimate mid-late 2nd round guy) and after him there is a pretty decent drop off in safety talent, but I'm not overly enamored with him, and I expect his stock will drop some after the Combine as the other four guys in front of him should have vastly superior workouts. I also don't understand why some people like Brian Leonard so much, and I definitely don't understand him going in the 1st round in this mock. He is a relatively versatile guy and everything, but he's not a 1st day prospect as a pure HB and he's not a particularly good blocker or anything as a FB, the Patriots are far too smart to use a 1st round pick on him, no one will give him a look before the late 3rd round at the earliest.

jeff george was in oakland when gruden took over. then he was let go because gruden brought in rich gannon, because he could run a west coast offense. russell is no west coast guy.

bongo's mocks (as well as anything he's ever said) are about getting the most reaction from people. does anyone remember the titans/jets/saints/raiders/lions trade proposal he guaranteed before last year's draft? the raiders really wanted a quarterback!
