Broncos | Plummer's days with team over
Mon, 1 Jan 2007 08:41:10 -0800

Mike Klis and Bill Williamson, of the Denver Post, report Denver Broncos QB Jake Plummer has told teammates and friends he will not return to the team next season and serve as a backup to QB Jay Cutler. Plummer will look to find a starting job with another NFL team.

Bills, Tampa Bay, Oakland, KC, Houston, Detroit.

Uh? Why Detroit?
Kitna threw for 4200 yards, 21 Td's and comp 62% of his passes in his first year of the offense. And he didn't even use the David Carr excuse of getting sacked 60+ times.

The passing offense is the only thing that works in Detroit.

Houston looks like the right fit to me. Offense he knows and a starting QB he should beat easily in camp.

Because they're going to need someone to throw the ball to Calvin Johnson.:shades:

I have serious doubts that Jake Plummer will be an improvement over David Carr. The only way I could see this happen is if the Texans are resigned to a long term rebuilding program and will bring in Plummer as an interim quarterback while they draft and season the new quarterback.

Bingo.

Should I order my new #16 Plummer jersey in Steel Blue, Liberty White, or Battle Red? What the hey, I'll get all three.

Has the Bills said anything about getting rid of Losman?? last I heard, they were satisfied at the QB position.....

Same thing with Tampa Bay, Oakland, & Detroit.... we might not think highly of their QBs, but they all have problems, glaring problems much worse than their QBs....

Tampa Bay couldn't get their run game going..... They've got Simms, who Gruden may not be in love with, but the kids made plays..... they've got GradKowski..... who Gruden is in love with, and has shown lots of promise..... then they have Rattay while not A-List, he's definitely worthy of a Roster spot.

Detroit... while I'm sure they'd love to have a QB of the future on their roster, Jake Plummer doesn't help that situation, besides, there are probably no teams in the league in need of Defensive playmakers more than the Detroit Lions...

Oakland.... QB won't change much there. They need to figure out who their coach is going to be....... who their receivers are going to be.... who their running back is going to be...... & who are going to start on their offensive line.

KC............ they've already got enough old guys competing for the starter position.

I would wait. Plummer might pull a Domanick Davis and change his name and number.

Mark my words...

Detroit will not take a WR with their first round pick. Millen would be tarred and feathered if he did that.

They are a lock to draft a QB first. Brohm or Quinn will be their pick, or even Russell if his stock continues to rise.

I'll just have to put duct tape on my old Carr jersey and get a sharpie

Yeah it was a joke, but it would be funny if the Raiders passed on Johnson leaving Millen in a tough position. Assuming he wasn't able to trade out of the spot he could be forced to pass on arguably the top talent in the draft because he's 1 for 3 picking WRs in the first round.

OMG, if they draft another reciever with the first pick I will laugh my @$$ off!!!(Lions) :tv:

As for Jake da Snake, I could see him coming here w/ an incentive based contract. I bet he thinks w/Kubes he'd have a pretty good chance of beating Carr out for the job. Then if that happens he either takes us to the playoffs and gets a big pay day for it or he sucks it up worse and does'nt get squat.

It could happen....maybe.:shades:

I am for bringing him in for competition purposes, and let him and Carr battle it out, BUT I do not want to get rid of Carr and just let Plummer be the starter. That is outrageous considering he threw more picks in 12 games than carr in 16 games. Carr is faster than Plummer. Carr has a better arm than Plummer. Overall? don't know...let them battle it out, line them up and evaluate, don't choose one blindly.

Only if we kept Carr. But I see your point, we would be Trading in a '02 Kia Sportage Convertible (looks good/good for nothing) for a '97 Jeep Wrangler Sport (not as pretty/but gets the job done). We get more value out of the Wrangler.

Let's see:

302/442 (68.3%) for 2767 yards, 11 TDs, 12 INTs (82.1 rating)

175/317 (55.2%) for 1994 yards, 11 TDs, 13 INTs (68.8 rating)

How exactly would cutting David Carr and bringing in Jake Plummer be any kind of help for this team? Carr's numbers are superior with a vastly inferior team, this proposed idea makes no sense and I don't see it happening.

LOL, How many touchdown passes did Carr throw last year? 3? 4? I know I was riveted to my seat when he was directing the offense. Plummer sucks and Carr sucks. Next.

Well, what about Snake's numbers when Kubiak was his offensive coordinator?

769/1279 (60.1%) for 9637 yards, 60 TDs, 34 INTs

I could see why Kubiak might prefer a known quantity over a unknown one. Carr was on his way to a Plummer type year before things unraveled. But things unraveled. I just think Kubiak would be more confident going with more of a sure thing, while developing a young QB found in the draft.

Well the fecal matter will hit the fan if GK has given up on David Carr.... I don't believe he has.

But if he did then Kubiak knows he needs to get to winning football now. It is possible that he believes Plummer would infact be the fastest way.

I believe teams will rush Jake with the same wreckless abandon that QBs who are easily spooked see. Until Jake beats them. In '06 Jake was having trouble beating the defense on a regular basis, and you see what the Broncos got for it. If Kubiak's gameplanning/play calling put Jake in better situations than he was in this year, then yeah..... I can see Jake playing as well as he did in '05. I say that even considering our offensive line is not Denver's offensive line. We left a lot of Big Plays on the field in every game.

Yes, and 13 INTs in 11 games is also >> than Carr's 12 INTs in 16 games, not to mention the completion % and QB rating.

If Plummer was throwing 2 yards down field every play he'd have a 70% completion percentage as well.

At least Plummer wants to be a winner

How about this scenerio. Well it might be far fetched though. I say we sign the snake and trade Carr to the highest bidder (2 or 3 round draft pick) if feasable. If that happens we atleast could possibly pick up another qb with the pick. Just a thought.
