includes underclassman (hard to imagine all of them declare) QB is the premium position, could not come to a clear consensus on the top cb (does not mean I don't want the Texans to draft one) WR is a talented crop & the Texans are still looking for that one who can stretch the field (Meachem is my dark horse pick for the Texans) at this time Reggie Nelson is my personel favorite pick for the :logo:

1. Brian Brohm QB Loisville 6-4 224

1. Brian Brohm QB Loisville 6-4 224 I'm not so sure about drafting a QB with our pick. I think Sage could do a fine job while we address more of team. We can draft QB next year IMO.

2. JaMarcus Russell QB LSU 6-5 252 I'm not so sure about drafting a QB with our pick. I think Sage could do a fine job while we address more of team. We can draft QB next year IMO.

3. Calvin Johnson WR Georgia Tech 6-4 228 I don't think he should be so high on our list. I think he is an amazing talent, but it would be hard to see us pass on other talents for a back up to AJ this early.

4. Adrian Peterson RB Oklahoma 6-2 218 Eh, I wouldn't be that upset. We can do better and I think Taylor/Dayne is more than enough to avoid 1st round RB.

5. Joe Thomas OT Wisconsin 6-7 310 Yes. Move him up.

6. Adams Gains DE Clemson 6-5 260 Hard to justify this pick but he is a pure pass rusher as opposed to the complete Mario.

7. Brady Quinn QB Notre Dame 6-4 228 No. Move him down. Carr Clone if I've seen one the past few years.

8. Alan Branch DT Michigan 6-7 322 No. Move him down.

9. Reggie Nelson FS Florida 6-0 195 Yes. Move him up. My pick for us as well.

10. Robert Meachem WR Tennessee 6-3 210 Wow. I love this kid and his potential. AJ clone. Can't spend 1st round on him though and we have so many more pressing needs. Still would take a hard look at him though.

sorry for not being more clear, this is my top 10 draft board in order of talent not specificly the Texans draft board, although I'm a firm believer in taking bpa, hence if the Texans have the 8th pick and these underclassman come out (which they should because they're all top 10 material) that would put Branch & Nelson squarely in the Texans sights. I would be happy with either one. the one who scares me is Robert Meachem. I'm with you ytf but not sure if the Texans feel the same way, especially if they keep David. anyway with the draft order almost in place & not changing the order of my top 10 the 2007 draft might resemble something like this-

1. Oakland Raiders Brian Brohm QB Loisville 6-4 224

2. Detroit Lions JaMarcus Russell QB LSU 6-5 252

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Calvin Johnson WR Georgia Tech 6-4 228

4. Cleveland Browns Adrian Peterson RB Oklahoma 6-2 218

5. Arizona Cardinals Joe Thomas OT Wisconsin 6-7 310

6. Washington Redskins Adams Gains DE Clemson 6-5 260

7. Minnesota Vikings Brady Quinn QB Notre Dame 6-4 228

8. Houston Texans Alan Branch DT Michigan 6-7 322

9. Miami Dolphins Reggie Nelson FS Florida 6-0 195

10. Atlanta Falcons Robert Meachem WR Tennessee 6-3 210

Oak is stupid and won't go QB. I see them going CJ.
Lions go QB. I think Quinn because they are also a stupid franchise.
Bucs would probally go Adams or Russell. I'll say Adams.
Yes to Cleveland.
No to ours.
I don't think Falcons will go WR 1st round again. They have 3 already. They need S.

Here is my Top 10

1) Caffrey's Irish Ale
2) Budweiser Brew Masters Private Reserve
3) Unibroue La Fin Du Monde
4) Guinness Dry Stout
5) Chimay Grand Reserve (Blue Label)
6) Moorland Old Speckled Hen
7) Warsteiner Premium Verum
8) Duvel
9) Pilsner Urquell
10) Shiner Summer Stock

When Pierre Celis owned Celis Brewery in Austin, Texas, I would have had to find some way to include his Celis White in that list somewhere and there were some others that were close to making the list as well, like Newcastle Brown Ale, Bass Ale, Harp Ale, St. Arnold's Amber Ale, Everards Tiger Bitter or Boddingtons Pub Ale. I also really want to try Rodenbach Grand Cru, but it isn't available here in Texas.

I'm assuming this is your Texans draft board?

myself I'm a firm beleiver in taking the best possible football player available regardless of need. last year for example Reggie Bush was bpa w/Mario rated #2 prospect.

this would be a killer draft for the Texans

8 - Reggie Nelson, FS Florida
39 (three 6-10 teams rotate picks) - Daymieon Hughes, CB California
73 - Brandon Mebane, DT California
104 - trade to San Diego Chargers for RB Michael Turner
135 - John Beck, QB BYU
169 - Mario Henderson, LT FSU

Yeah, that's just for Texans...and with our spot...I don't like the talent level versus the pay. I'm leaning towards trading, either for Joe Thomas or a few picks lower and a 2nd.

lets see the 8th pick (Texans) + 2nd rd. pick (#39 7th pick of the 2nd rd.) to move down lets say 3 picks (#5 Arizona) which would be a minimum move to get into position for Joe Thomas.

yeah sure I'd do it but I doubt Arizona would & miss the opportunity to grab their franchise LT. a move down would require a hell of alot more, hey I know throw in David Carr

Well no griping from me beerlover. You hit 'em all. Agreed on Branch. I'm in denial over the offensive player McClain is talking about. Might be QB if the right QB falls to them. I refuse to believe it's Ginn Jr. That only leaves a move up possiblity on the table for JT.

fine that would be my offer take it or leave it.

if they leave it & cannot make the trade before the draft then I would go ahead & move John Beck up (so as not to loose the chance of drafting my future QB) & take my favorite unherald'ed RB Dwayne Wright, Fresno State.

cool I'm glad you agree :thumbup

Nelson has over taken Landry as the #1 FS prospect in my book based on his speed and athletic ability (lets see if his pro-day 40 time is under 4.4) his kind of ability transfers to the next level, speed kills in the NFL. if he stays in school then I would take a look @ Landry or top CB available which would affect the 2nd rd. pick.

first three picks should be starters, Nelson/Hughes/Mebane. Beck will have time to groom behind David & Sage until a decision can be reached. he has the general field leadership Kubiak likes, makes excellent reads, strong arm & mobile. I really liked what I saw today from Chris Taylor, maybe we don't even need to make the trade for Michael Turner? Chris was not even drafted yet has excellent size, speed and vision. Dwayne Wright is a very similar RB he would give the Texans excellent depth & value if he is still here on the board. very impressed with Mario Henderson as a future franchise LT, prototype size, wingspan, footwork/base just needs to improve his strength & endurance for the next level. really wanted a Center, not happy with that position. Lyle Sendlein is Big (6-3 300 lbs) physical, experienced proven fifth-year center also is versatile enough to play guard. his father, Robin, played linebacker at UT (1977-80) and in the NFL for eight years (Minnesota, 1981-85/Miami, 1986-87/Houston, 1988). last but not least we need a kicker/punter & Nick Folk does both (avg. 44.6 on punts 62 yd FG) we need improvement at least over Stanley, could eventually replace Chris Brown plus adds depth. we need to make every pick count :twocents:

threetoedpete

And one thing is for sure on Beck. He already knows how to run a waggle. A lot of what BYU does is in our offense. He ain't as tallented as a lot on the board. But his advantage is, he already knows alot of the offense. I consider his age a minor concern. All it means to me is that he is mature. I.E. he is locked and loaded and ready to go in a worst case scenario. Kolb is a big time prospect. I just don't believe he fits what Kubiack and the Denver system does. Not a knock on him. Just think he has a better shot with a vertical club...just like Dave Ragone. Who as we know, was one of the first guys they sent packing.

Query1: Would Arizona even want Joe Thomas? Leonard Davis has really been coming along and he was supposed to be their franchise LT. Would they be willing to give up on him and take another stab or would they try to improve their defense. They need help on the Dline, so how about Gaines Adams or Alan Branch?
oh, and isnt Leinart a southpaw? IE his blindside is the right tackle, whereas Joe Thomas is a Left tackle? Isnt it generally the case that right tackles dont go nealry as high and can thus be picked up later on? So, would they really pick Joe Thomas if he is in essence not on Leinart's blindside?

Query 2: What is your opinion of SAM BAKER? Will he come out this year, and would he be that franchise LT we have been drooling for so so long?

threetoedpete

Nice post great questions.

Queiry one:

The general consensist is that Leonard is over paid and has under produced as the Cardnals OLT. Plus, I believe I read this the other day...he is going to get an eight million bump if the Cards don't make the move on him June one. I stand to be corrected on the last one. Bucaneers are in the same boat. With Gruedens vertical offense, Joe thomas would allow him to release the hounds and let slip the dogs of war. It is highly unlikely that either would pass up the shot at the , IMHO, best OLT prospect to come down the pike since Criss Samuels of the Washington Redskins.

1. a both of your d-line prospects are spot on. I do not like double dipping in back to back years at the same position. However Gains Adams has been a play making beast in college.

2. Baker and Long (Big Blue) both have indicated they are going back to school which broke my heart. They were the three and four OTs on my board.
Which means the OLT class got a lot weaker this year. I'm sure we're now looking at day two Wand type prospects to shore up the biggest hole in our bucket going into the off season. Just because Wand busted out doesn't mean the new guy will. Our scouts were hot last year. We might get lucky again.

Agian nice well thought out post.

Zonas line sucks. they need to take notes from the Texans & protect their franchise QB before Matt becomes damaged goods.

first off Baker is staying in school one more year so that could work in the Texans favour. he is a bull & very strong kinda like Spencer, but from what I've seen he has difficulty with speed rushers on the ends, his footwork is too slow but he is a mountain to get around so you do have some time. will be a top 20 pick next year for sure with the demand for his position, we'll see what happens you just never know.

How have we come up with an extra 5th round pick?

oops my bad :embarrass

when I was trying to figure out the rotating picks with the three 6-10 teams I was using the "The Draft Pick Trade Chart" which was evidently consfusing going across the board, because it carres 8 rds. (additional rounds) not sure if this is a carry over from when the draft was longer or inclusion of Compensatory Selection picks which they add on between the latter rounds (unsure if the Texans are entitled to receive any of these compensatory picks or not) so for now I'll remove Nick Folk (#232) Texans should/will invite a undrafted rookie or free agent kicker to training camp anyways.

I like that draft for the most part. I don't agree with Beck, but if Kubes can mould him, I'm ok with it in the 4th. I'd rather see an OG. I don't really think we need to go RB with our assortment of RB's on the roster. I'd probally rather see an OLB in place of Beck and Beck if he has to be there, in the 5th. I'm not big on Sendlein, but I could live with him. I have to study him much more though so he could be someone you found before me.

Not really.

If all the CB's expected to come out do indeed declare, Hughes should be one of the odd guys out. He isn't going to wow anyone with physical stats. Hall won't either but is overhyped and will still go round 1. Guys like Cason, Revis, Bennett will go before Hughes.

Mebane is considered undersized. He is only like 6'1 295 for a DT. He is a pennatrator though but does not have great size or speed. He gets it done though and is a force. I like him. He is projected to be a 3rd or 4th round guy though...so not much of a reach really for either.

I still think we need one. Lundy had a few good games, but also a few pathetic games, Gado will not be resigned, Davis is done, Taylor had one good game against one of the worst defenses in the league with a lot of injuries, and Dayne is good, but not a franchise back.

I would not object to the Texans going D-Line again. We are building something nice on defense. The more pressure we get from the front 4 the more flexibility we have to do things in coverage and the more chance of generating turnovers off of pressure. Apparently , judging by his recent comments on the matter, the coach agrees with you. Not saying will take all three first round picks defense. I'll bet money on one d line guy. Wouldn't be shocked if they end of with two prospects before it's all said and done.

I thought I read while on vacation last week that Leonard Davis wants out and is an unrestricted free agent. That surprised me. thathe is unrestrcited that is.
