Says ESPN (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2706195):
Air Force will name Houston Texans offensive coordinator Troy Calhoun as its next head coach, succeeding Fisher DeBerry, a source close to Calhoun told ESPN's Joe Schad on Friday.

Calhoun was Air Force's quarterback under DeBerry in 1986 and was an assistant for the retired coach.

Calhoun has spent the last four years as an NFL assistant after stints at Air Force, Ohio University and Wake Forest.

Best of luck to him. The quotes that I've seen from Kubes and Shanahan seem to point to him as an offensive innovator.

He'll get his chance now.

who does that leave us with as OC.....kubiak or someone else?

It wouldn't surprise me if Sherman were to get the OC title. I think that he had more input with the gameplan than Calhoun did anyway. JMO.

Probably. But, they'll still need to hire a QB coach, as Calhoun was responsible for both jobs.

Congrats Calhoun, good luck as a HC. Would it be Sherman takes over the OC and Kubiak, though HC, have a "slash" in his title for also QB coach?

So i guess Kubiak will be Coach and OC now, right.....?

Kubiak is QBs coach.. and was running the offense as much as Calhoun.

Id look for Kubiak to bring in another young guy to "put under his wing" and start grooming.

This guy was supposed to be innovative? I guess there's only so much you can do with an Arena League II quality QB.

Does this mean we don't need a sacraficial lamb in the offseason and that Carr gets at least one more year to stink it up?

hmm...

I wasn't that impressed with our offensive coordination this year. Good luck with the AF.

Calhoun will not be able to overcome the Navy Triple Option. He's got no chance.

It is great for Kubiak in that he is starting his coaching tree, but what have the Texans gained? This is very frustrating as a fan.

Calhoun most likely will finish out the season with the Texans and then start with the academy. The coach that was just named to be the HC at Boston College is doing the same thing.

Did anyone see anything this year that suggests we should be upset about this?

good luck, too bad we lose this offensive mastermind, king of the dink scheme.

What a great hire for Airforce. A QB coach/offensive coordinator that masterfully designed the 2 step dink and dunk offense. Good luck to the AIrforce defense.

I can't say I'm upset about his departure. I would expect maybe Sherman to get the nod at OC, I don't see him getting any HC offers despite his good track record there. It's probably easiest this way too. I don't see any overhauls as a result though. Unless they go outside of the team for a new OC.
Time will tell.

So we expect the coach of one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL to take over as OC. Isn't this exactly like promoting Pendry to OC?

Uhhh... no thanks.

You were expecting this staff to finally do something different from the last regime? :sarcasm:

That being said, Sherman is far ahead of Pendry as a coach.

I agree. I respect Sherman, but I do not want his conservative 'play not to lose' philosophy on this team anymore.

I don't know what this braintrust has in store for next season, but I'm far from impressed by their first year together. Too many aspects of this team seem to be regressing as the season goes on.

thats unfortunate that calhoun is leaving. keep in mind that david carr is fixing to have his 4th offensive coordinator and his 3rd or 4th QB coach in the past 2 seasons.

There is no OC or scheme that will help Carr. The only thing that will help him would to have the San Jose State Defense on the other side of the ball.

Calhoun may have been an innovator, but Carr can't handle a full playbook.

I thought one of the other Texans' coaches was rumored to be heading to a team like Alabama. Kind of interesting when you think of the season we had. Wonder if there is a little more to this than meets the eye.

That's Nick Saban, and he's with the Dolphins.

Usually takes 6 years for current information to travel to the west coast. They still think Carr can play out there. :bowser:

Well Ibar still sports the Fire Capers avatar, and Capers is with the Dolphins, so I can see where the confusion comes from.
