well if he isnt at least as good as peppers at this point he will be labeled a bust, because of who we chose him over. The guy can put up 10 sacks a season and shut down the run, but until we get our QB and RB problems fixed he will be blamed for those areas.

I see him, at best case scenario, being like warren sapp in his prime. granted sapp was a dt, but Mario just reminds me of Sapp.

Worst case is We have a guy who's making 54 million to look intimidating as he gets blocked out of every play, like a Ray Lewis against the Chiefs.

Have you been reading this mb. Not to change the subject but, Carr gets blamed for everything. Anyway, I think Mario is a player that can help make the offenses work for everthing. I think he is more talented than Peppers, although his numbers don't reflect that.

Would you guys be opposed if he was like a Richard Seymour...didn't get many sacks, but was a monster in regards to making guys around him better, stuffed the run and forced OLs to double him.

he's getting paid elite pass rusher money, he would be terribly overpaid as a runstuffer and holeclogger.

Ummmm, why? If the offense can't run because of the line, we can drop more guys back into coverage. If we consistently turn 4.0 YPC backs into 2.5 YPC backs instead of Mario getting 2-3 sacks a game, we gain better field position consistently.

because pass rushers create turnovers. its that simple.

At best he will be another Javon Kearse. Not too bad, but not good enough for the money he is getting.

I'd rather have 3 and out consistently than the random turnover.

you can just run the other way if hes an elite run stuffer.

you can't take out an elite pass rusher as easily.

The dwight Freeneys and Pepper's of the world are the highest paid D players for a reason. Sacks or pressures cause fumbles, interceptions, and hurried throws. They can also take out a qb. All are much more effective than tackling a running back for a 2 yard gain instead of 4.

one reason his numbers dont reflect is becuase he's playing hurt. i heard on 610 he might need surgery for his injury

I can see Mario Williams becoming a William Fuller type player. 4 time pro bowler, but not one of the greats of the game.

Best case scenario - Reggie White
Worst case scenario - Andre Wadsworth

Mario's combination of size and speed make Reggie White the measuring stick. Other great pass rushers don't weigh close to 300 lbs.

If Mario is ever able to play up to his potential, he can be the kind of guy who shuts down one side of the field against the run and forces QB's to roll to the other side because double teams on pass plays aren't enough.

You could load up the other side and slide your players.

Double teams? Have TEs chip block? Leave RBs to help out? Trust me, it goes both ways. The best DEs affect the defense as a whole rather than being a pass rush specialist. Theres more to being a DE than sacks.

He is playing hurt and I still think that he has had a huge impact on the defense

Is Mario makes the players around him better (much like the 2 big DTs in Baltimore did for Ray Lewis) then Im fine with that because its about the team.
