Anyone hear anything about negotiations with Andre Johnson on a contract extension? Domanick got his last year and he came into the league the same year. I'm assuming that Andre got a typical 4-year rookie contract and would be a free agent after this season. Anyone think that he will test the free agent market or maybe wants out of Houston altogether?

AJ is signed through '08.

I can't recall his contract details but I don't think he can void '08 -- meaning they still have at least a year to work on his extension (someone needs to check on voidable years). There's no question he stays if things start trending upward.

Top draft picks get 7 or 6 year deals. He still has at least two years under contract. We had to renegotiate DD's deal because he was drafted way lower in the draft and got a much smaller deal. I know this sounds stupid but you can acctually check their contracts on Madden.

...which in many cases have buybacks and voidable years after 4 years. Carr's deal (for example) was 7 then became 4 ... hence the need for his extension this year.

But it was still the Texans call whetver to resign him. Carr wasnt a FA until we chose not to resign him, its not the same as the contract running out.

It will also be the Texans call to extend or restructure AJ up until the day before his contract expires on March 1, 2009.

The difference between the two deals is that the Texans could give Carr either a two or three year option after Year 4 (his UFA eligible year) because of the buyback. AJ's appears to be a straight six with no buybacks or voidable years.
