FOXBOROUGH, Mass (AP) -- Vinny Testaverde (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/players/70), who came out of retirement last season to help out the New York Jets (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/teams/jets), was signed on Tuesday by New England.
The 43-year-old quarterback, the first overall pick by Tampa Bay in the 1987 draft, has played 19 NFL seasons and has 269 touchdown passes, eighth in NFL history, and is sixth with 45,252 yards passing.
He becomes the third quarterback on the Patriots roster, behind Tom Brady (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/players/5228) and second-year man Matt Cassel (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/players/7406).

all i know is that in september, the patriots called him in to workout as a potential 2nd stringer.

Supposidly he is a real gym rat and workout warrior so he's in good shape. Could fill in for a sort time and manage the game. Looks like a guy for a worst case senario if it should happen. Brady took a heck of a hit on Sunday and the Pats NEVER say much about injuries, so could be something in the background that they are protecting against.

That's an understatement.

When he was with the Cowboys ESPN did a segment about how he is probably the strongest QB in history.

Bench Presses somewhere between 400 & 500 pounds. I dont know the exact weight.
