View Full Version : What I like about Vince Young.

Now I realize that Young didn't have his greatest game today, but the thing about Vince is that he ALWAYS gives you a chance to win....he doesn't make silly mistakes, he's calm in the pocket, and he can make the big play from time to time.....Carr might have the better numbers than Vince on the season, but numbers don't mean everything........with a little more seasoning I see Vince being a great starter for years to come.

Shouldn't this be in the NFL section?

Vince has shown flashes but it remains to be seen if he will put it all together. He is 7/15 and if I was a Titan fan I would be uneasy about that but maybe he puts it together after some time under his belt under the tutiledge of Chow and Fisher.

2-2 in 4 starts. No mistakes. Pretty solid for a rookie. And he ran a long TD right against Mario. After that run Mario became very tenative just like Freeney and Mathis did. I think our DL killed your OL. KVB had 4 sacks two called back but he was unblockable. And AJones killed you again as I predicted on ST. He also completely shut down AJ in the first half. And his INT was another big play. We are not good but we also have a ton of talent. This was done without Haynesworth too.

VY made plays and didn't make mistakes. He managed the game well, and the score would have likely been lopsided were it not for Mawae's bad snap and the blown call on Bennett. He was far from perfect, but he was very good when he needed to be... both his TDs were on 3rd downs right... just more of the same.... the pass to Bennett was a crucial play and a perfect throw. He's a playmaker and he seems to be a competent NFL QB. Not bad for a rookie.

Stats mean nothing... points, wins, and big plays mean a lot more.

VY didn't win the game. Carr's mistakes won the game.

Carr had an undeniably terrible performance, but VY did not impress me aside from the regurgitation of his 2-play UT playbook.

It seems like you all are giving Vince praises simply because Carr played badly. I think it was possible to give him his praises without bringing Carr into the equation, but using him to justify VY growing up as a QB seems like some sort of.... non-VY related agenda.

Time will tell about VY. It's way to early to say that VY, with a little more seasoning, will be a great starter. He actually did very little today, aside from the great run for the touchdown, and the TD pass. Otherwise, he was pretty ordinary. He has shown flashes, no doubt about it, but let's hold off on the "next great QB" theme.

I think it's very convienent to post something like this after a game like the one today. All of the VY supporters are going to come out in full force, especially the loud mouth Rich Lord on 610.

What more do you want from a ROOKIE QB, who most people were willing to admit his potential was higher AFTER 3 seasons of sitting. It's season 1 and hes already doing a pretty damn good job helping his team win games. Funny how expectations change.

Vince is a leader. He is determined to win. He plays with heart and he looks really comfortable on the field. He's a rookie and he's not going to look like Peyton Manning on the field. He's going to make mistakes in the future and he will learn from them. One day though I have a feeling he will be known as one of the best quarterbacks in NFL.

4 ints in 5 game isn't that bad (especially for a rookie)......he's still learning, but he's not making a lot of rookie mistakes (like Carr) in his learning process

I think the most you can want to see out of a rookie QB is those "flashes". Big Ben rookie play isn't what any coach expects.

What I've seen is that Vince is able to manage the game, make some big plays with his arm (he'd be hellascary with good receivers) and with his legs. But the other thing - the thing that makes me think that he's going to be great - is that the whole team, which was a huge mess at the beginning of the season, has elevated its play since Vince took them helm. His leadership skills have already translated into the NFL.

Yes, he "only" scored one passing and one rushing touchdown today. But I would think that everyone would be superimpressed with that after so many deemed him incapable of even standing behind center until Year 3 or 4.

Young is clearly progressing quickly. Today, he once again demonstrated remarkable poise and pocket awareness, taking only a single sack, for a whopping one-yard loss. In every other pressure situation, he was able to either get the ball away, or scramble away and pick up a few yards.

He clearly didn't blow anyone away with his passing prowess, but we got to see exactly what the Titans drafted him to do: when their offense couldn't get anything going, but Young made a play here or there to keep a drive alive and win the battle for field position.

In the NFL, where so many games are ultimately decided by one or two plays, a player who makes 4-5 impact plays per game greatly improves his team's chance of winning. Young may never be 300+ yards, 65% passer.....but he'll make his presence known virtually every week. Today was a perfect example.... he threw for only 87 yards, but he singlehandedly converted a handful of first downs, and of course, he also had the impressive TD run. Just as importantly, he didn't make any big mistakes to lose the game. This is usually the curse of any rookie QB, and Vince is no different....he had 2 INT's, a fumble, and a number of very bad plays against the Cowboys earlier this year. But since then, he has demonstrated remarkable composure, and has been remarkably mistake-free is his last three games.

If Vince can just keep progressing steadily throughout his rookie season, I suspect he'll be a spectacular player in the league for a long, long time.

The problem with Vince Young is that he's a better runner than a thrower. In the NFL, that's the perfect recipe for being injury prone. He might have some spectacular games, sort of like Michael Vick, but over the long haul, he's going to take a beating, again like Michael Vick.

I don't think so. If those guys could catch, his numbers would be out the roof. Remember before the Draft, we said he was going to a sorry ass team with no receivers. I'm sorry, I didn't read this whole thread before my first post here.

But this and many of the other posts are just ridiculous. I'll grant you that Vince accounted for 14 points..... but you can't compare Vince's performance today to Carr's.......

I do believe that Vince will be able to handle everything the NFL throws at him, but right now we have to give Carr the benefit of the doubt. He's been whupped for the past 4 years, and looked much better his first year than he does now. He looked better his first year than I believe Vince will his first year.

But Carr was on track to have another 5+ sack game, and while I like the effort our boys put on Vince, we stopped blitzing him early...... I don't know why.

I complain about David being 15/21 for 113 yards (71.4%) & I have no doubt he would have had at least 2 TDs in the 4th Qtr to bring his QB rating up around 100.

I wouldn't be satisfied with Vince's stats. He looks good, he looks poised....... but so did David, once upon a time.

Umm... you can clearly see Mario on the other side of the field, he was at LDE and droped into zone, Vince scrambled to the other side. Also, 7/15 for 84 yards? Gimme a break. He relied completley on the Texans shooting themselves in the foot, which they duly did. The two TD drives combined for about 75 yards and you did very little else on offense except not blow the game. :brickwall <-- the Texans offense for much of Sunday

VY is no Mike Vick and he is nothing special and time will tell. He has a ton of downsides and throwing for 87 yards against a porous Texan defense certainly shows it.

Yeah ESPN, the originators of hyping everything on the planet athletic, has a conspiracy to hide the enormous talents of Vince Young. Spare me.

I looked up passer ratings for the NFL and couldn't seem to find VY on the passer rating list for the NFL. You see, it only goes up to 30. Yeah, I know...you can't measure VY on numbers. It is unfair to say that only three QBs in the league have a worse QB rating than him. It would be wrong to say that he has a 1-1 TD to INT ratio (Carr is 9-5 and sucks)

Don't try to tell me Carr is good. He isn't. He can't throw downfield and he has no pocket presence. He throws screens and checks down all the time. Completion percentage means nothing, he just makes simple passes.

We're not talking about Carr. We're talking about Vince. Vince can't make the simple passes. If you watched the game Sunday, you would have seen VY miss a TON of open receivers. You saw him toss the ball up for grabs and into double coverage just like Carr.

Matt Schaub is going to be a free agent next year. I like him as an option for the Texans. He is also going to come cheaper than either Carr or VY. Seneca Wallace also a possibility.

I am not a Carr apologist. I am a Texan fan. I can tell you that there are a heck of a lot of other intangibles that have gone into the failures of David Carr over the years. Horrible coordinators, being the most sacked QB in NFL history, the lack of viable weapons at the wide receiver position. The list goes on. I think he has had made significant improvements on his decision making this year as evidenced by his passer rating and TD-INT ratio which is 9-5. Solid.

I have been on here and other venues detailing VY's limitations and problems. I don't hate Vince, I just don't think he is going to be much of a QB in this league. He is a 47% passer and with his throwing motion (which NFL coaches do not tinker with at all), he will never be an accurate passer who can make the big NFL throws. Very similar to Jeff George in this regard. He has legs that George never had! George didn't have George Burns' legs.

Both wins were gifts by the opposing teams turnovers not anything special by Vince. And if IIRC that TD run Mario was on the other side of the line.

Vince Young is becoming the most likeable NFL player. Listen to him talk, listen to the determination and dignity the man has. Go to the Titans website and go watch his post game interview.

I don't understand how people can bash such a good person. So he's not a GREAT quarterback in the NFL yet....doesn't give you reason to bash him.

He is 2-2. He's won 2 more games than Matt Leinart (with MUCH worse receivers).

Yeah listen, 4years of college and still unrefined.

The first half of your post is an utterly stupid comparison. There's no questioning that DC had a lousy game, but he has also had many very good games this year in terms of not turning the ball over and "giving his team a chance to win." Vince is thus far responsible for 5 TOs in limited action, including two completely uninspiring performances against DAL and IND.

The second half of your statement I can agree with ... Vince is improving quickly and I agree that he demonstrates great poise for a rookie on a bad team, and great promise for an NFL career to come.

David did not turn the ball over against Philly, & Jacksonville. That's 2 out of seven games.

Yes, and there was an interception in the Washington game that was not Carr's fault. Johnson and the Redskins's CB both leaped into the air for a simultaneous reception and the CB ripped it free from Johnson as they landed. Johnson could have and should have had that ball.

David Fumbled the ball 3 times in that game. We recovered the ball twice, the third led to a Washington Field Goal.
