Just a couple things. 74% of nfl teams that are 0-4 win the 5th game, and 87% win the sixth game if they losses the 5th game. This would explain their last two games being close and winning. Now that this is over they go back to being awfull.

1.) The Titans are the worst team i have ever seen against the play action pass. They are also horrible against a zone blocking team. They have no speed at linebacker, you really dont even need to block the trailing linebacker because they just cant go sideline to sideline. Below you will see there stats vs the run for the year, ranked 32cd.

Team G Att Att/G Yds Avg Yds/G TDs FDs 20+
Tennessee 6 208 34.7 987 4.7 164.5 10 49 9

2.) Look for the tight ends to have a huge day in recieving yards, the play action with the tight end dragging should work all day long. AND I PREDICT AJ will have a 60 yd td reception. He will let the tight ends have thier catches and then he will fake the crossing route off of the boot and go deep.

3.) Once the D gets used to the VINCE OPTION, the titans will be rendered harmless, I predict they will put 10-14 points on the board in the first half if they get the ball first, and 7 if they kick. I predict 3 second half points.

As we are looking at pointless stats~ Let's take a moment and remember who the Titans had as a quarterback before Vince Young took over.

Steve McNair? surely you arent talking about Kerry Collins.

the Titans should have kept Billy Volek and let Vince sit a year. Volek made out like gangbusters, now he gets to spend his winters in San Diego instead of nashville.

I think it will be a lot closer game than people are predicting. Just remember our team has yet to put together 4 qtrs of good football. 48-0 in the 3rd - regardless of that fumble by Jax - speaks volumes.

And they have yet to prove that they can be consistent from game to game. If they can continue with what they started with the Jaguars, we could possibly see another great performance. But they haven't won a road game since December 2004, so we have to keep things in perspective.

I always knew Kerry Collins was terrible on defense! Seeing as most of his post deals with their run and pass D, I dont think Kerry Collins is much of a factor.

True but this is a different team and a different staff, last year is last year . This year is what we make it. Ex: Steelers won SB last year.... This year 2-4, just like us.

Wow you give the Vince option waaaayaaay too much credit.

We gave up 7 points to Philly in the first half(if you don't count that last second touchdown, which was philly taking advantage of a young aggressive D.) we hold Dallas & Miami to 3 first Qtr points, and shut out the Jags in the first half.

The Titans will be lucky to get a field goal in the first half.

First of all, we can shut the Titans down in the third Qtr, and we'll still be 48-0 in the third Qtr, so that's how much that means.

Secondly, it's not like we're talking AFC champion Titans here, we're talking about the Titans that pissed on the QB that made them, then sent his backup to SD, and replaced the two of them with Kerry "I couldn't make it as a Raider" Collins.

All the things you are saying we have got to prove, and that we haven't done, well guess what...... the team we are facing have to prove the same thing, & haven't done any of those things either.

Then they are going to give Vince the second half of the playbook, and start a reciever that he hasn't thrown to.

I can understand being "realistic" but with a team like the Titans, you sound more like chicken little.

The key to winning football games is scoring points, which is obvious, but stay with me here.

We know it is highly unlikely the defense will score points, the Texans just don't have that type of defense. So, the offense needs to make things happen, and early in the game with scoring TDs. But, the offense is averaging about 7 points through 3 quarters of play for the season (and that is 4 games out of 6 at home). The offense still hasn't scored a TD on the road in the first 3 quarters. You could argue that the 3 TDs against Indy in the 4th doesn't really count, then you have no TDs on the road for the Texans.

The offense gets started way too late and that is a big problem if a team wants to win on the road.

If the Texans are sitting on 3 or 6 points at halftime, the game will probably get out of control mid to late in the 3rd quarter if hadn't already. The Titans can run the football consistently and they are going to do that all game long to wear the Texans defense down and put the game out reach so they can headhunt David Carr.

Key for the Texans, score TDs early and have at least 17 points going into halftime. Otherwise, there will be too much to overcome and the Texans haven't shown they can overcome and come from behind.

I know what you are saying Tex, but stay with me for a minute.

You are comparing us to last years Texans, which isn't fair(for one thing) & they didn't score points because of their offensive philosophy..... that's not our problem this year.

We had trouble in our first game of the year....... really why did you expect more??

Then we got one dimensional against Indy & Washington.....

then we played two danm good deffenses in Miami & Dallas.....

All this we haven't proven stuff yet, means jack squat right now. There are a lot of things we need to prove, which comes with a coaching change.

First things first, we got our talent......... We've added some nice pieces on offense, and defense.

Now we need to learn how to play...... starting with Miami, took a step back with Dallas, improved in Jacksonville.

We'll score some points against the Titans, don't you worry about that.

But the important thing to notice about our team, is what we are doing right, and what we are no longer doing wrong.....

we're getting better, & I bet that third Qtr problem has been addressed, and we'll see a different team coming out to start the second half.

True but this is a different team and a different staff, last year is last year.

A losing atmoshere in the locker room carries over from season to season. One of Kubiak's stated goals is to erase the trends and cycles of previous seasons. Kubiak himself brought up the stat about not winning on the road since 2004, so take it up with him. :shades:

First of all, we can shut the Titans down in the third Qtr, and we'll still be 48-0 in the third Qtr, so that's how much that means.

If 48-0 in the third quarters this year means nothing, THEN WHY DID COACH KUBIAK STATE THAT THIS IS HIS PRIMARY FOCUS THIS WEEK?!? The Texans have consistently come out of halftime playing flat.

I know you tend to be reality-deprived, but give me a break. You might think you know more than Coach Kubiak, but you don't.

Secondly, it's not like we're talking AFC champion Titans here, we're talking about the Titans that pissed on the QB that made them, then sent his backup to SD, and replaced the two of them with Kerry "I couldn't make it as a Raider" Collins.

You NEVER overlook any team in the NFL, regardless of their record. This is especially true when you're a bottom dweller like the Texans.

Drink on, Mr. Koolaide.

Dude, don't bring your whack take to me. I'm the last thing from a chicken little. Our team has looked bad this year. That's not crying the sky is falling, but stating fact. We've had moments of shine, but overall, we still have a lot of work to do.

Keith Bullock according to you runs a 4.43 @ pro day in syracuse on turf he ran a 4.58, so he is one of the guys that gets faster with age.

Here is a scouts take on Bullock and his speed

Negatives: May like to have fun a little too much at times. Has stretches when his instincts appear to be off and it looks likes he must see the play unfold before he can react to it. As a result, he is slow to locate the ball and his playing speed does not match his football speed. Never has shown game-in and game-out consistency. Is not a powerful player and is more of a run-around-the-blocker type as opposed to a taking-him-on type of linebacker.

All of your colts rantings are incorrect, they are not a play action team, the run the stretch or pass. They also do not have a pass rush, freeney has 0 sacks, the team has 5.

Kubiak will let vince pass all he wants, he will commit to stopping the run. I would be very happy to let VY beat us with his arm any day

Leftwich was playing on one leg...

Interesting--didn't realize this until I just looked at the recap but the Titans one win came against a gimp as well.

Brunell's toenail was ripped off early in the second half and he was limping badly on the sideline at one point, but he never missed a down. His play suffered, however. He was 11-for-14 in the first half and 5-for-16 in the second. He threw for 180 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

I'm sure a pair of cleats with a 300 lb lineman laced into them stepping on your foot will leave a mark.

As for the game, I don't think I was this amped up for the Cowboy game. I want to see our guys do well and I want to see Mario have his break out game.

My points are merely with respect to what the Texans have shown on the field. Both of their wins could have gone the other way. This isn't team of destiny, not to mention this team hasn't even shown they are beginning to turn the corner in a positive direction.

As far as I am concerned, I don't know if I can trust this team to win a game when they are suppose to win or stay competitive for 4 quarters against a team that is better than them.

There are still a lot of question marks on the offense and the defense needs a lot more improvement, as well as get more takeaways and a little scoring by the defense would be nice as well.

The offense has a tough time scoring points this season in the first 3 quarters, THAT IS A FACT. We haven't seen anything to believe that has changed or will change anytime soon. Some of you guys are sugar coating some things way too much. This offense isn't that good and won't be until:

1. They score offensive TDs consistently, and not just in the 4th quarter at home (just forget about the 3 TDs on the road against Indy when the game was already done). Basically score more than 21 points in a game on regular basis and put some quality points up in the first half besides field goals.

2. They run the two-minute drill effectively when it really means something.

3. They have a long sustaining drive at the end of the game to lock up a hard fought victory against a better team.

4. Throw completions down the deep middle parts of the field. I am tired of seeing Phillip Rivers and Eli Manning being able to do that. We run a different offense but when it comes to throwing deep down the field, Carr needs to get some between the numbers and preferrably between the hashes deep. That will open up the entire offensive game plan.

David Carr's stats and Andre Johnson's yards are meaningless unless you put points on the board and win football games. The offense has serious problems with the 4 items above. If they can fix those items, I will sing their praises. Until then, I am very skeptical. I have to be, I have been a season ticketholder for 5 years and I am tired of hearing things and then it doesn't pan out.

Prove it to me or it is just words.

I haven't felt this confident about a win since last week. We stomped the Jags.

I love it, you think VY can throw the football. Sorry how well is he doing this year? How many Int's to T.D.'s? Young better hope Travis Henry doesn't miss the flight to Houston.

Thanks guy, I needed a laugh right before I went home.

A losing atmoshere in the locker room carries over from season to season. One of Kubiak's stated goals is to erase the trends and cycles of previous seasons. Kubiak himself brought up the stat about not winning on the road since 2004, so take it up with him. :shades:

If 48-0 in the third quarters this year means nothing, THEN WHY DID COACH KUBIAK STATE THAT THIS IS HIS PRIMARY FOCUS THIS WEEK?!? The Texans have consistently come out of halftime playing flat.

I know you tend to be reality-deprived, but give me a break. You might think you know more than Coach Kubiak, but you don't.

Please pull your head out when you make dufu remarks like this, or just leave me out of your little t it-for-tat fest altogether.

Again, unroll your panties and stop acting like we have to play a perfect game to beat these guys. They are not the patriots, they are not the colts, they are the bottom dweller in this contest.

They have one good game, a rookie QB, and David Givens hasn't played with them for more than 3 weeks straight, and he's coming off an injury after a bye.

& just because you can parrot Coach K, or some NFL stat you heard on TV, doesn't make you smart. My point, is if we shut them out, then it isn't a big deal. Something we need to work on, but not a big deal. We won't lose the game, if we are outscored in the third Qtr.

& I explained myself pretty clearly, I thought. I know our team has shown bits of inconsistency. That would be a major problem if we were going against a good team. Like the Colts, Like the Eagles.... but we consistently held Miami Dallas & Jacksonville to 3 or less points in the first half. We've only had 3 turnovers in the last 3 games(& they all came in one Qtr to add to that oh so telling 48-0 stat). We've actually forced 3 turnovers in the last three games, making us even in the turnover battle. & the Cowboys only scored 10 points on us outside of points off turnovers..... which is pretty impressive.

We are 29th against the run, they are 32nd. We are 30 against the pass, they are 28th, but their QB doesn't even complete 50% of his passes, ours completes 70%. In fact, we've held Culpepper to 59% completion, Bledsoe to 60% completion, and Leftwich to 50% completion, for an avg of 180 ypg. In that time, we haven't allowed a 100 yard reciever. & our DBs suck..

LasVegas has the Titans by 3, pretty much saying we're evenly matched. I can understand bringing the board, and posters like me, back to reality when we are playing the Eagles, the Colts, the Redskins, TheDolpins, theCowboys, and the Jags....... but to be optomistic about beating the Titans is pretty dang realistic. To say otherwise, is crying just hear yourself whine.

And the 2nd half of the Dallas game could have gone the other way but it didn't and the wins didn't either--what's the point?

My point is the Texans are a bottom dweller team until they prove otherwise. Dallas is a better team and handed the Texans their jocks in the second half while it looked like some of the team just quit.

As for the Texans victories, the games were won in the second half, but they were not dominating performances. In addition, both of the opposing QBs were limited due to injuries. Interesting, neither of those QBs are starters this week. Ummmm... defense keeps it close and the finally offense shows up... recipe for a Texans victory at home... that recipe probably isn't going to work in Tennessee.

A win is a win and is counted the same in the record books, totally agree with you there. But in reality they are not all the same, and analyzing a win and understanding where it came from gives you idea of where the team is and what to expect in the future.

The Texans have not logged a good quality win yet. Nice wins though, but nothing to say teams should be concerned about them.

Hope you get cheap airfare traveling from California for the games.

$200 bucks round trip on Southwest.

I went the Jag game, that one was for free because of Rapid Rewards.

I go to 2 to 3 games a year.

I went to Eagles and Jags this year, probably no more games this year.

After the game, a friend that I go to games with said we finally went to game the Texans won. I think the last game we went to that they won was the Jag game where Carr went over the top in the end zone. I think that was 2003... That was a long time ago. I have made a lot a losing trips to see the Texans, that's for sure.

Well I disagree--the Jags win was a quality win. Anytime you are a 10 point dog and walk away with a 20 point win without a bunch of fluky plays.

As for bottom dweller--just seems like you should apply the same standard to the opponent. The Titans only win came against a hobbled QB who by the way may not start this week as Jason Campbell has been taking the 1st team snaps. We're both bottom dwellers--right now us with a passing game and not much running game and them with a running game and not a lot of passing game.

If Leftwich was 100% and the Jags had that defensive tackle, I would agree with you. I a guess I agree with you but with a qualifier.

I hear ya hear too, but I think the Devil is in the details. What concerns me are the Titans running game and Vince Young. If the offense starts off really slow with only 6 or so points in the first half on the road, I think the Titans running game and Vince Young could put enough separation in points that it makes it very difficult for the offense to move the football in the 2nd half.

There still isn't a 2-minute offense and we really haven't seen them come from behind with quality points.

Basically, what I am saying is, that if the Texans get behind early, it could get ugly real quick. And, I don't think you can lay all the blame on the feet of the defense just because they give up a few TDs in the first half. The offense needs to score quality TDs early on the road.

Personally I hope for and expect Carr to have a big game. It won't be said but im pretty sure if Carr ever felt he had something to prove it would be this week. The buzz seems to be about MW vs VY but for the houston and tennessee area I think more people will watch DC vs VY.. alot of people wanted VY to be the texans qb. (I'm not one of them) I still stand by my opinion that VY will not be an elite QB in this league. There is no doubt he has great mobility but he can't move like Vick and mobility alone has not made Vick and elite QB. Only exciting to watch...but anywayz....
People called for DC to be dropped and take VY like he would turn around this team and that Carr was the problem. Carr has already responded very well this year and if he continues to put up the numbers he has, could make a good arguement that he deserves some pro-bowl consideration..
I obviously dont know what Carr is thinking but I believe that he wants this win as bad as any, to show the people off houston that VY was not the answer for this team... If anyone actually still believes that...

Big Day for DC

Oh come on.. The Cowboys handed us(if you're a fan of the Texans, you call them us & we when refering to them) our jocks & they are the better team, but we do the same to the Jags & they have a handicapped QB?? c'mon. I didn't see Lefty limping one time. Infact, he was doing the freaking running man on the sidelines, and in the huddle all game, from start to finish.

They are just looking for an excuse to bench Leftwich without saying they are benching Leftwich, because that would make them look stupid for pulling Garrard in their playoff game a year ago.

& by the way, Bledsoe isn't a starting QB this week either.... & Brunnels may not be as well.

That's true, but stop comparing us to last years team. We are getting better, you can't look at how we played in the first game of the season, and say that's who we are. & by the time week 17 comes around, that team is going to be better(I'm drinking the koolaide) than the team you see now.

Look at what Denver does, and more or less, that's what we are going to be doing. We are going to score in the high 20s, we are going to run the ball, we are going to play strong defense, and we are going to jump out to early leads. that's the blue print,

and if you look at our last three games as compared to our first three games, you can see the progress we've made in that direction. & If you can, I highly suggest you come to the Colts game, you will not want to miss our First win against the DivChamps.

& we may actually be in second place, with the way the Jags season appears to be heading south.

Leftwich is adamant there is nothing wrong with his ankle, and there wasn't anything wrong with his ankle last Sunday.

He wasn't missing his recievers because he couldn't step into his throws..... it wasn't because he couldn't plant his feet, he missed wide right, he overthrew, he missed wide left......

You are making me laugh. I was at the Jag game. My seats are in the Bull Pen and close to the field. I was very short on sleep and had been drinking heavily for many days. What I saw, was a hobbled QB.

To add, since I have sobered up a little, repeatedly on the NFL Network, they have shown Leftwich doing the splits while dropping back to pass during that game. He was in serious pain before and after the splits!

Look, Leftwich is going to play with a peg-leg and a cane if they let him. It's just the way he is. That guy is the ultimate fighter and will never give up.

I never compared this team to last year's team.

The defense has improved greatly in the last three games compared to the first three games.

The offense is statisically better than last year and Carr is playing pretty good. But, this offense still has a problem with scoring points, particularly in the first 3 quarters. The offense still doesn't throw the ball down deep down the middle parts of the field (meaning between the numbers and preferably between the hashes).

You are drinking the Koolaide a little.

The Texans haven't proven anything except that old adage "on any given Sunday." In the NFL, even a dog will get his day.

My expectations are playoffs in the next year or so and the following year a deep run with an expectation of a Super Bowl. This team seems to be very far from that.

Of course he is denying that he is hurt. I dont care how bad a QB he is sometimes, I respect him cuz he is a warrior. He would play if they let him.

I never said he played bad cuz he was injured. You are drawing your own conclusions from my statement.

Yes sir, the coaches said it is a major concern for this coaching staff. & I believe it is something that needs to be worked out.

But the way you used it(in context with the other things you said) I understood you to mean that it was key for us to win this game.

It's not.

We can win this game even if we do not score in the third Qtr. Especially if we don't allow the Titans to score in the 3rd Qtr. If we score 0, and they score 0, then the stat doesn't change, we'll still be outscored 48-0 in the third QTr, but we can still win the game.

If I misunderstood what you meant, then I'm sorry. maybe chicken little was a little strong......

Look, man, let's back up a second and clarify. I have absolutely no problem with someone dissecting my takes and even proving me wrong. It's all good in forumland. I just draw the line at thinly-veiled insults. Hope you catch my drift.

Of course we can win without a strong third quarter, as we have already proven twice this season. But we have also lost momentum in the third qtrs., and I think this is the concern that the coaches and fans have about this particular issue. It is not necessarily the key to the game, but it is a point that needs to be addressed. We've got to be able to stop them from scoring after the half, or put together a scoring drive ourselves. That's all I'm getting at. We cannot afford to lose our first half momentum coming out of the gate, because we can only score so much in the fourth (which we seem to have some consistency doing).

It's cool, though. I did not mean to come off so grouchy, and hope you understand it's just a matter of differing perspectives. :)

1. The titans are bad at play action because much like you guys they have a bad FS in LThompson.....................and they have a very slow MLB in Sirmon...................but Bulluck is a 4.43 guy and Thorton runs a 4.55.................they are the best OLB in the league against the pass.............Youre correct in saying we suck against play action but youre dead wrong here in diagnosising why we are...............Moreover, play action requires the threat of running it.............the Texans cant run..............so that is not a strength you have..................Indy is the best play action team in the league..............check out how we played them in indy and lets compare how you all fared....................those are facts not stats.

2. I agree the Texans should be able to get a ton of yds throwing.............if Carr deos not turn it over. AJ and Moulds should do the most damage..........TE never kill us because we have elite OLB as previosuly mentioned.

3. the VY option has been scarcely used to date........why you think it will be used against yous is a complete mystery.............your horrible against the pass and Thenry and Lendale White will get most of the yds on the ground........................VY has stayed in the pocket almost all the time with the exception of the Indy game when they had a designed option at Freeney early to take his aggressiveness away in the rush.........The Colts forte is the pass rush and we used their strength against them extremely well............check the score out.....................and it worked...............MW is not in Freeney or Mathis class of pass rushers and Weaver is a run stopper................we dont need VY at the edge to slow your DE...........they are ordinary.................If VY runs this week it will be from the pocket and it will stress all the LB...............and none of the Texan LB match up well with VY....................I still dont see VY running alot this week...............VY will beat the Texans through the air.................

I need to go wash the bile from my mouth, because I'm about to agree with something you said...
I don't think our TEs will be much of a factor, at least in the passing game.
Last night, I went back and looked at how TEs produce against the 'Tacks, and it was pretty modest. I don't remember the exact stats, and don't want to go back and do it again, but by memory it was something like 200+/- total yards by opposing TEs (around 33 yds/game) and one TD for the season...
Owen Daniels better bring his lunch pail and show up as a blocker...

Let me stray from the subject for a sec. Something that has really bothered me is the fact that when we win there is always a reason and always seems that it is because a team is injured. This is the NFL, huge guys beating on each other so injury's happen. If I recall New England always seems like their secondary is on IR shoot they put WR's in as DB and guess what they still win but when we win a game it's well they were injured so what I do not care if Del Rio had to suit up and play and Tice had to man the line we won they lost thats it. What will it be if we beat Tenn., well the had a rookie starting at QB they had a DL suspended for a WWE type move. When we lose it is because we suck and that is the only reason we win it's because they are hurt. What takes the cake is and it is hard for me say but I expect this from everybody else but not our own fans. Yes we are not a playoff team, we have problems on both sides of the ball and it might take the rest of the year for our team to come in to their own but what ever happened to just saying yes we won and leaving it at that instead it seems we have to criticize our guys even when they win. Calm down we won 27-7, it does not matter if we scored 20points in every quarter and won 80-0 against the all Jag team the only fact is we won.

1.) The Titans are the worst team i have ever seen against the play action pass. They are also horrible against a zone blocking team. They have no speed at linebacker, you really dont even need to block the trailing linebacker because they just cant go sideline to sideline.
