View Full Version : Gado should still start!

I know many of you will disagree with this statement but look at what it got us last week. I think Gado is just as much of a quality back as Lundy and Lundy just benefited from timely blocking and good play calling. Let me point out when else in the game did they run the same play that Lundy broke the long run on with Gado. They didn't. It was just a good call at that time and excellent blocking not taking anything away from Lundy by any means. I think confidence wise it just good to have two backs that can produce. If you start Lundy just because of one game and he goes out there and has the game he had at the beginning of the season then everyone says here we go again. Gado is a nice spark at the beginning of the game and then you hit them with Lundy who is a little quicker and shiftier type back. Gado pounds on them but doesn't just fall on the pile like Dayne. I'll go ahead and say what was said on the Packers forum by Jim Nayzium last year. The first time Gado gets in the open field you will see that his speed is legit

I think that the holes were there and the line did open them from time to time for both backs... not just lundy, the difference is that lundy had the vision to find the holes. i think that lundy has better instincts and vision. i hope to see him start........according to kubiak though..............."I don't get too caught up in the starter thing, but he's definitely going to play (more)," coach Gary Kubiak said. "He stepped up and played well.

thank u chronicle......anyway they will most likely split time. i hope they both do the same and gain yards. then we can open the deep ball once again. and then the brilliant bootleg that coach k likes.

ya get gado to loosen em up, then throw for a litle bit then send in some quikness to hit the holes and provide big chunks of yards.

well both my ff backs are on bye weeks so I have lundy starting for me next week, hopefully he will get the majority of the carries as we establish a truly domminant running game for the first time all season.

Okay he his on a team, this is not the Samkon show, I am sure he is a fine back, and we have all seen what he can do we all watched on Monday Night last year or what ever year that was.

This is a team though and Samkon does not look like the kind of guy that cares if he gets the ball on every snap, if he is the man then I am sure Kubes will not keep him off the field.

We Won, thats all that matters and Samkon contributed as much as he could.

Yeah, or version of thunder and lighting. It worked well in the Jags game. Gado came in and roughed up the Jags D by pounding through the middle, then Lundy came in and bursted to the outsides.

Uhhhh, why? 10 carries for 27 yards really softened them up? Please. When Lundy came in the game our offense had a new spark and really played well.

Lundy should be the featured back with Gado spelling him when necessary. We stick with that and we'll be fine.

This is the most preposterous logic and reasoning to date.

To imply or flat out say, that Lundy has better vision and that is why the holes were there, is rediculous.

Owens Daniels has EVERY SINGLE YARD that Lundy had in that game if they swapped places.

I predict that Lundy earned the start this week in practice. Kubiak gave him props today at the media, so I am sure it was practice. Any coach of the game that is as knowledgeable as Kubiak is can see what happened.

I can't believe you people. If Samkon catches that toss sweep and scores...he would have by the way...Then everyone here is bashing Lundy's vision for those first six carries for 5 yards.

The isolation play was even worse...worse in terms of easy for the running back.

I like Lundy. He seems like a good kid. I hope that Kubiak won't just use this fake little decent showing to believe he has found his man though. And even worse...we play the Titans now...so whomever was at running back will look good this week.

Let's see where this kid is in five weeks after 125 carries...

MY PREDICTION: I.R.

Just because I like Lundy doesn't mean I think he is a better RB...

What I am saying is basically that Lundy got lucky to be in the game during the ONE play that was blocked perfectly...

Had Gado been in the game then, then all the town would be Gado Crazy, and they would be talking about the "total package..." inside power...outside speed...

I do like Lundy. I am happy for him. I just think to declare him "the starter for a long time to come" based on that one half...is looodddaaaacris

And it will make Kubes look stupid in two weeks when Lee Suggs is starting or whomever...

He should have said, like all good politicians..."We think the world of this young kid, and we like Gado and Dayne. I think Wali definitelly earned the right to play more, and might even start...but this is the NFL and they all have a lot of football in their future, so we'll see how it all plays out..."

That way he can do what he pleases with the rotation and not be made the fool....

I love when people leave words out to make their point.

"Wali has earned that right to go play," Kubiak said. "He'll be the guy this week and hopefully for a long, long time. As far as Ronnie (Dayne) or Samkon (Gado), they'll probably always be a week-to-week decision."

He is declaring him the starter for this week and hoping that will turn out well, i.e. he will earn the starting job for a longer period.

I like Gado but please people stop saying he is a speed back, unless by speed back you are comparing him to Lindale White or TJ Duckett. He is powerful and hits the hole with strength but honestly his GAME speed is more like a Stacey Mack, or even Greg Jones, i'm not dissing him but he is not a speed back.

I did see Gado a couple of games last year, and that one big run he had for us @ Indy, I think his 4.3 speed is legit.

I didn't think Lundy had 4.3 speed.

Lundy's definitely has the shake & Bake going that Gado lacks.

Looking at Gado, you wouldn't think he has 4.3 speed, but watching him play, I can believe it.

I agree with ThundrKiss....

Gado quickness is definitely not what Lundy's is...no doubts...but his speed is VERY deceptive...He glides even as a sprinter...so while running it looks so effortless....

here is the link to see his speed for real...keep in mind the guy chasing hiim had a 70 yard return in the game also....

And that's fine..... I personally don't like that kind of runner. I don't like Gado as much either, Dayne is the guy I would start.

Alot of those 2, 5, & 7 yard carries Gado & Lundy got would have been 5, 8, & 14 yard gains with Dayne.

Of course that 27 yarder would've probably been a 10 yard gain by Dayne. Even though I think Dayne can break off big runs, I'll admit Lundy's moves got him a good 20 yards on that one run.

I watched the first Qtr again last night, and I saw Gado get 3 & 5 yards past the LOS before getting touched. Then being tackled rather quickly. Dayne would have either ran through those tackles, or carried them to the 1st down marker. Lundy goes down about as easily as Gado, if not easier.

On that second big run Lundy had, no Dayne probably wouldn't have done much better if any at all. That was a pretty good size whole. Lundy's speed would lead to a bigger gain, but Gado's speed would lead to an even bigger gain.

I don't really care which of the three start(heck, throw Suggs in there as well). I think they can all have pretty special carreers, behind the line Kubes is building. I just wish our fans would get off their backs and be patient with what Kubiak is doing. If we don't have a definite run game we can count on by week 8, then I'll get on with the Running back bashing that we've got going on here. But until then............

The one thing that I am still clueless on is what do the coaches see in Dayne? Lundy and Gado are much better in every aspect except maybe running into the back of the lineman and fall down forward. But as I have recently learned is that Dayne is working as Lundy's backup and Gado with the scout team. I am a big Gado fan but I'm also an above average viewer of talent and Dayne just hasn't shown me that he should still be with this team or even in the league. There are much more quality backs then Dayne!!

In Denver's system, who is starting doesnt matter as much as who is finishing. They rotate in backs and see who gets hot and give the defense different looks. I think Gado and Lundy will pretty much split time and whoever has gas left in the tank will play more down the stretch.

Oh and remember one other thing, Lundy's pass protection ability was horrific those first 2 games. He struggled with blitzes and disengaging from a block to catch a screen or dumpoff pass. He can run well but we need to see the other tools first before he is anointed as starter. I guess Kubes just feels that neither Gado or Dayne have shown the ability to hit the hole like Lundy has. It's basically a tradeoff to take the subpar pass blocking but improved rushing and let Lundy improve week to week on his role in passing scheme...but he must be held accountable and get benched if he can't pick up most blitzes or if he fumbles a bunch. He should just be on a short leash with Gado as the alternative.

Lundy > Gado

It's gonna be a great game this weekend and rooting against VY is gonna be pretty strange.

I don't agree....I think there are a lot of sorry players in the NFL....But again like you said Talent is in the eye of the beholder...

Ill put it like this....

Based on Running ability:

Gado: C-
Dayne: C-
Lundy: C+

Thats just my opinion....Im not saying any of them are anything special, But Lundy is a rookie and I already think he runs better than either of those two...I think Lundy can improve and get up to about a B- to a B+...I think Gado and Dayne are what they are...

The only person Lundy has outperformed hitting the holes in the regular season is Vernand Morency.

Check the Indy game, or the Jags game...... same team against, same Oline. Lundy's performance has been worse than Gado's or Dayne's, until he got the toss to the outside, and that big whole that both Gado & Dayne would've hit.

I don't want to rag on Lundy, but just want to get the facts straight. The run to the outside, I agree neither Gado or Dayne would have broke that one for 27 yards. But the big run up the middle, David Carr could've got.

The fact is that Lundy did get those runs, and deserves to start next week. But he hasn't proven that he is better at anything(than the occasional juke) than our other guys.

He avg'd 4 ypc, but he didn't get 4 ypc. if he did, he'd have gotten more carries. he was getting those yards against Indy, by picking up 7 yards on 3rd & 17. When we gave him the ball on 1st & 10, he was getting no gains or 2 yards, where Dayne was getting 3, 5, and 8 yards on 1st & 10, and 3rd & shorts.

Same thing against the Jags, except for his two big runs. I'm not taking anything away from him on those two runs, we can woulda-coulda-shoulda it all day long, but the fact is that he broke those runs. So he's earned the start. But I'd be surprised if he gets the majority of carries, if he doesn't up his avg on 1st & 10, and 3rd & short.

If there is no one in front of him (like on Lundy's second big run) then I wholeheartedly agree that Gado will get more yards than Lundy. But there was a guy waiting to tackle Lundy on the sweep, and Gado would have ran right into him, just like Dayne would've. Only difference there, is that Dayne would've run through the poor fella. Gado would've hit him, and gone down.

I'm not knocking on Gado, he just don't have the moves that Lundy has, and he's not as tough as Dayne. I'd rather see Gado go up the middle, than Lundy. I'd rather see Gado on the sideline, but Lundy in the open field.

But personally I'd rather see Dayne get the majority of the carries.

1st down Carries:

Lundy: 0,2
Dayne: 3,8,6,5,1,0(the play he hurt Spencer),5,1,3

5 carries under 4 yards for Dayne....4 carries over 4 yards.......

I understand, but Lundy also had the philly game, and then there's practice. Kubiak didn't wake up with a wild hair up his rump to start Dayne, and trade Morency. He kinda knows what to expect from them on Sunday, they either do what he expected, fail to do what he expected, or exceeded what he expected. I doubt anyone has exceeded his expectations yet, and Lundy performed like he thought he would.

I just watched the game again. I admit my attitude going in was to start with the frame of mind that Gado just got outplayed and I need to confess to this forum that I am wrong and Lundy deserves it etc....

But after re-watching the game I was actually less impressed with Lundy than when it was live.

Here are my concessions....There was one play in the game were a quicker back...and maybe even Lundy ...would have had a huge running lane on a cutback....But I contest that this play was designed to go outside and therefore there was no pre-thought to the cutback...would Westbrook have seen this lane to cutback?...MOST definitely...and right now, no one our team is Westbrook.

BUT, the coaches found the weaknesses...and exploited them. The 11 yard run that Lundy had was clearly an inside zone play designed to take advantage of what they had discovered two series earlier....I believe Gado would have done better on this run than Lundy did.

Also, one thing that hasn't even been mentioned....We got 1st and FIVE because of a penalty, and three straight runs and Lundy could not get us the first down....This is the blocking that Gado saw all day and got 30 yards on 10 carries....Lundy got -2 yards on 6 of his carries...

As for the sweep..I rewatched after reading this thread to see if Gado would have done well on the sweep...and there is no doubt that any player would have gotten over 20 yards on this run if they were on the roster and played running back....

I believe Gado would have punished the DB a little more, but I think the quick smaller backs should definitely duck out of bounds...It's like the qbs sliding....

SO HERE IS MY PROPOSAL: I have heard rumors that DAYNE will be active and Gado not even dress out.....

CAN I at least get enough GADO love from the first half...which if you rewatch was way more impressive than just the stats show....
To back me up that this would be absolutely proposterous...!!!!

If Lundy starts so be it. He does actually deserve it. He got lucky...but nonetheless he stepped up when it was his turn. But if Barry White comes off the bench to move ahead of GADO this will be the stupidest thing I have ever seen.

Kubiak and Dayne must really go way back if this is the case.

The Texans are 2-0 when they score the most points! I dont know why they dont do that more often.

Shouldn't you be at practice right now, Sam?

I think Sam has a little bit more to worry about than what people think about who should be playing and not playing, I on the other hand like getting you *****s worked up

I see no reason for anyone to get worked up over this lol kubiak will give samkon another shot this week maybe...that seems to be his way of the rotation. Gado will get another shot lets see what he does with it. TEXANS4LIFE!

Worked up... whatever.

Some guys troll for other NFL teams. I guess others troll for 3rd string RBs.

I'll be on the lookout for a "Start Brad Bedell" thread.

I don't understand all the pessimism about Gado. Maybe he shouldn't start, but the guy brings more to the table than Dayne. We trade Morrency for this guy and don't use him enough. We might as well have just cut Morency if we're not going to get anything out of Gado. The guy deserves a shot and I can't understand why he's not getting some reps.

I agree the Samkon fan needs to calm down a tad bit...

However, that being said, here is the real question at hand:

Was Lundy bad Sunday or was the line bad? This goes back to the threads a few weeks ago....DAYNE, Lundy, AND Gado would have all looked bad Sunday.

Kubiak said Lundy left some yards on the field....yeah, about 30 or so....wwwoooooohhoooooo....

right now, the line is the problem. We had two nice long runs vs jacksonville last time, then played Tennessee who sucks versus the run....

The point is...Gado fans, Lundy fans, and both of the Dayne fans, just need to calm down and sit back and admit that the line play is terrible.

Here is Kubiaks chance to redeem himself. Playing the Jags again lets just try and see if the same gameplan works. Start Gado and bring Lundy off the bench. If Lundy starts and Dayne plays and the Texans lose there will be a huge I told you so coming.

Anyway, I am just a big Gado fan, ever since he came into the league and hearing his story the NFL needs more players like that and it needs to be published more and don't tell me to calm down Nayzium. The bottom line is Gado is better. "In Gado we trust"
