I can't find it anywhere online. Where did you hear this? If it's true, then that monster year he had last year is in question.

If it's true, then a lot of people need to take him off their "we should of......" list.

Thats interesting its Merriman. I remember right around Draft time it was Luis Castillo(also picked by the Chargers in the first round) who had the roid incident. Interesting...

I don't like the policy. 1st time offense should be out for a year, 2nd time offense out for life. Heres the link:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2635475

Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman has been notified he will be suspended for four games for violating the NFL's steroids policy, league and team sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Merriman's positive test was "definitely for steroids … not one of those supplement deals" said a source with knowledge of Merriman's suspension.

Merriman's suspension originally was to be announced last Tuesday when two other players -- the Falcons' Mark Lehr and the Lions' Shaun Rogers -- were suspended for violating the policy. But Merriman reserved the right to appeal his suspension, so it was not announced.

Neither the Chargers, nor Merriman, could be reached for comment Sunday night.

Earlier Sunday the Chargers lost to the Chiefs 30-27 in Kansas City.

I think that's too harsh. I would have them be out a whole season the first time. Two season's the second time and then out for life.

It depends on which ones you take. Some can stay in your system for more than a year, while others can be gone completely in about 6 weeks.

Steroids are illegal, so I would consider this a "legal issue."

Don't steroids cause permanent changes in muscle mass?

Once you take steroids for years and work out intensively, the muscle you gain is there fore life, right? Just because you stop taking steroids isn't going to cause it to atrophy away.

So because it causes some permanent changes, and a player is shown as being too careless to avoid the penalties, I am changing my opinion. I think steroids should be a no tolerance life time ban.

Thats right. If you're caught EVEN ONCE, you should be out for life. Thats the only way to really get the message home. Otherwise people will use until their caught, wait 4 games, and then do it again.

then i guess anyone that shoplifts should be jailed for life, otherwise they're just going to immedaitely steal again after they're punished.

That's not what he was trying to say....He's not saying once a user always a user......He's just saying that once you use them once they're kind of always in your system...

I don't know that to be true, and Im not saying I agree with him...

Just trying to clarify what he was saying...

I think roids should be legal for the defensive and not legal for the offense. This would make the game much more interesting in trying to scorre points.

The steroid that a lawyer for San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman said was found in Merriman’s urine cannot be legally obtained in the United States.
The lawyer, David Cornwell, said the steroid nandrolone ended up in Merriman’s system from a tainted supplement. But under National Football League rules, players are responsible for positive tests regardless of the products they take.
Nandrolone has been banned in supplements since 1990, and precursors to it, such as 19-norandrostenedione, have been prohibited since January 2005. Nandrolone’s precursors could be found in old supplements or in products from other countries where the product is not banned, according to drug-testing experts.

It's not that the steroids are always in your system, but the muscle you gain will always be there, especially if you are a pro Athlete, and do nothing but workout 6 days a week.

I think he's got a point. If not a lifetime ban, then the league should require that player be 15-20 lbs lighter than he was when he was caught to be elibible to play for the remainder of the current season, and the next one as well.

I think he has a good story, at least it's allowing him to play this week........ but I'd fire my trainer, or whoever was responsible for bringing that stuff to the table. Somebody has to pay, and if Merriman is sincere, & he didn't know about the stuff, that somebody would be the trainer that could cause him to lose 4 paychecks.
