View Full Version : How long before Gado is starting?

I think Kubiak, Sherman, and Smith brought Gado in to start -- my guess 3 games.

Now what does the rest of the forum think about this move? Will Gado be a starter in H-Town?
_________

"I think he's (Gado) already proven that he can be an every-down back. He's a kid that is a power type of back with good speed and balance and agility. So to put him in this offense will be an asset for us." -- Houston general manager Rick Smith

I think he will see Carries this week, and will share carries with Dayne for the rest of the season if he does well.

I think Gado was brought in to share carries with Dayne. I think they were both brought in because our backs were too green (in the cases of Lundy and Taylor) and they didn't fit well enough from the start (Morency).

I think that the first thing our coaches want to see is Wali Lundy break out and be effective in this offense. I don't think they expect that to happen anytime soon though and that's why we have Dayne and Gado.

If Dayne can build on and continue the nice little 53 carry, 5.1 average run he had last year with Denver then I think he starts and Gado spells him. Lundy falls to third and becomes the so-called "change of pace" back.

Personally I think (pure speculation on my part) this is probably what Kubiak hopes will happen. If Ron Dayne works in this system then throw out the first 5 years of his career in New York. He's a back with very low miles on him who can probably give us a few seasons while Kubiak hunts down and trains his future replacement.

Yeah it's very optimistic on my part but I just look at him and think "Here's a guy who didn't "pan out" like he was supposed to but who went to Denver and averaged 5 yards a carry. Now Denver has a really good offensive line and they do things a little different up there. What they do obviously agreed with Ron Dayne. If it wasn't just a fluke he could be productive for us. Not "Terrell Davis" productive maybe but surely he could manage "Domanick Davis" productive.

Just looking at the 5 games last season that Gado received 20+ touches -- he totaled around 570 yds and 7 tds behind a poor Green Bay O-line. Certainly that has to be in the back of Kubiak's mind.

Those were some serious numbers in Sherman's offense -- in Kubiak's system the sky is the limit.

I don't understand where this bad Green Bay offensive line thing comes from. Their line play was not bad at all last season, just because Favre threw 29 INT's and had a bad season doesn't translate to bad line play. In fact they only allowed 27 sacks last season. They gained over 5000 offensive yards last season as well.

What worries me about Gado is the knee injury, and his supposed problems with the zone blocking scheme in GB. He hasn't done anything reminiscent of his rookie year in a game situation since the injury, and apparently GB's staff didn't think he was catching on to the new scheme very well. I hope he works out for us, we could use a back who's started recently, but at this point I'm fairly sceptical.

Yes it was bad last year. They lost both starting guards. Their very good LT--Clifton gave up twice as many sacks in part due to bad guard play and losing their TE. The only reason they only had 27 sacks was Favre will run around and then throw the ball into an INT rather than be sacked.

I'm not too worried about the knee injury. I heard that he could have started GB's last game of the season, but they were out of anything meaningful, so they didn't play him.

Yeah, they wanted to make sure he was healthly for this season - his knee injury was not a big deal at all. Btw - when he hurt that knee vs. the Ravens he had already run up 45 yards in the 1st quarter on 6 carries. ;)

The good thing about his injury (can there be such a thing?) is that it was just a strain and didn't require surgery. I think by week 4 we will be seeing a lot of Gado.

He very well could see a lot of carries with Dayne this weekend. How did the Colts do against the run last week? 25th or something to that?

The Colts are ranked 30th against the run right now.

The Giants shredded them pretty well last week.

I believe that Gado and Dayne will be good backs for us. Lundy is not going to cut it in this system. Not big enough. I expect to see Dayne start and Gado back him up based on todays game.

I think Lundy will do good in this system, but it won't be this year or it will be late in the season.

I think Lundy will be 3rd behind Gado and Dayne.

As for starter - I am not sure that means anything right now the way Kubiak is swapping out the RB's like he is now. Co-starters might be a better term - at least until one of them pulls away and cements the spot.

Totally agree, Lundy just cemented 3rd string after today. As for as starter, RD or SG, I really don't care because both of these guys are hard-nosed runners who hits the hole and falls forward. Lundy needs to sit back and see these guys at work and understand there is a certain way to run in this offense, HARD at all times.

Today just reinforced my love of this trade. Nothing against Morency, but Gado seems to be what we needed more.

Gado is a good thing! (I am trying to get this to catch on)

I feel bad for Lundy, the guy caughed up the ball! I think he should keep his start. You can't demote him and then not demote Carr! They both screwed up! Na, I think Gado/Dayne is a good speed/power combo. Gado can play that is for sure!

Start Gado next week.Make him the everydown back. Make Dayne a 3rd down/short yardage guy if we need that. Bench Lundy. This poor man's version of Denver's 3 headed monster RB system aint workin. It's not workin for Denver either....Tatum Bell should be their everydown back....with maybe Mike bell on 3rd down. Simple as that.

Gado looked good, but I just cannot seem to come to terms that he is on our team. I dread the day that a talking head says something of the sort, "The Texans again playing in the theater of the absurd as they are Waiting for Godot."

I am haunted by Samuel Beckett and people who reek of patchouli, grilled cheese and fruit roll ups.

In my case, you're preachin' to the choir, FILO.

I've been pretty high on this trade since I heard the news.

Well I hope he's worth it. At this rate, We'll be useing street free agents on the o-line by the eigth week with the damage he's done today. With out the lineman he's just another garbage time FA running back. Nothing more. The fact that a cull from another team is in the running as your starting running back is damming in itself. Mind boggeling. Put lip stick on it if you wish, a pig is still just a pig.

Gado or Dayne should be starting. Lundy has not looked good so far IMO. There were some open spots he could have gone through had he the patience to do so. I say sit him and let him learn and get comfy, cause he plays like he he has the gitters just plowing through whatever is in front of his face.

hey...i liked Morency from the get go...He should be the Texans starter...as we speak...but he didnt fit into Kubiak's robotic system that doesnt work anyway...I think the system should bend a little for the players you have. So we have Gado now....Make him work.

Obviously next weeks game will be telling -- we must establish some sort of running attack to be competitive. If Gado gets 10 touches next week and performs well then I will expect 20 touches and the starting job by week 4 (his third week in the system).

Really scary how our running game struggled so bad against an Indy defense that allowed 186 rushing yards in week one.

Here is the real story on Gado...If you do the research you will find this to be true.

1. Knee Injury is a non-issue. AT ALL. He almost played the next week. Sherman held him out. This is FACT. He was 100 percent at all OTA's in GB.

2. Kubiak's system actually looked good to me at times, except lundy and dayne turn decent holes into three yard gains. As I watched the game, the whole time I knew if Gado got in there he would break one, and he did.

3. I followed this story last year and he is the real deal. He is not a cull from another team at all. The new coaches in Green Bay will be the staff between Sherman's Division Titles and the next gen of packers.

4. Ahman Green is a future hall of famer. Samkon was not "their" guy, so they had no loyalty to him.

5. Doesn't it speak volumes that Sherman discovered this guy, and then immediately acquired him? I bet in Sherman's second meeting with Kubiak he told Gary, "we gotta get this Gado kid..."

6. Gado had the most rushing yards vs the Steelers of any single running back last season in just his second NFL game ever.

7. Gado has the Rookie record in the GREEN BAY organization history for TD's and rushing yards in a game. That's green bay now, the epicenter of all things 4 yards and a cloud of dust...

Do a google search for Al Saunders and Samkon Gado, or Dick Vermiel and Samkon Gado, and see what these guys had to say about Gado even though they cut him.

KC had Holmes, Richardson, and Johnson. Johnson was the back up then and was on contract for 2 million. Hard to make that team for a running back free agent.

Vermiel called Gado at home when he was signed by the Packers to congratulate him.

Mark my words. three weeks from today, this town will be Samkon Gado Crazy in two weeks!!

Start em up now - - - -

"Beware the Wrath of Gado!"

"and Gado said, Let there be victory....and it was so."

"Oh my Gado!"

"Gado love the TEXANS!"

I think Lundy has probably played himself into the third down/change of pace back role. I look for Kubiak to pound the rock with Gado and Dayne.

Gato will be the starter by the bye week IMO. Let's remember, this week was his first week with the Texans, different running scheme that he has to get accustomed too. Once he does, take the gloves off and let em for what he knows. Although he only had 3 carries, he averaged over 12 yds per carry. Add in there, when he hit the seam, he was clearly the fastest running back we have even if you included Morency. I liked Gato last year with Green Bay and I'm happy we have him. I still like Lundy and believe he will succeed, but with the play of our offensive line, we have to have a back right now that can make his own holes until they.....our offensive line can get it together.

How many chances has Dayne gotten to start? And he has NEVER taken advantage of any of them. Meanwhile Gado emerged from practice squad to solid starter last year. He might have even picked up offensive ROY if he had played more games. The only reason GB dumped him was b/c Ahman Green is healthy this year. I think he was brought here to be the starter. Otherwise why bother, Morency was a fine backup.
