OK, just for fun, and based on what you've seen in the preseason and this first game, who or what positions do you think the Texans/Kubiak will pick or should pick in the 2007 Free Agency/Draft? I know there are plenty of people out there who think Kubiak (and yes this is Kubes pick) screwed up by picking Mario. But, since we can't go back and change things, I was hoping to try and get some of you to look forward and see what you think Kubes should do (even though he probably won't). :shades:

IMO I still think they will go after more linemen, both offensive and defensive. Why? Because IMO that is where we lost the game. In the trenches! Sure, we may get another RB, maybe even go after Peterson (sp?) from Oklahoma, but I still think Kubes will try to build this team from the inside first! JMHO! What do y'all think?

I would say a Heisman RB Peterson.. If we pass on him and get any other position we will have to see twice as many comparison threads as we have now with the Bush/Williams era.
But honestly he will go quick and we are probably going to end up in the middle with like a number 16 pick, unless we trade up.

Yeah I know, but I'm trying/hoping to get some of these people who keep wanting to change the past and whinning about "what we should have done" to try and focus on the future and "what we could do." I guess I'm just tired of hearing it and want to move on.

I hear ya bud. We're on the same page. That said, what do ya'll think of Marcus Griffin (S) for Texas. Maybe Tom Zbikowski (S) for Notre Dame? I think they look pretty good. Any thoughts?

If AP is there, we should not pass on him. Other than that, a good safety or other DB. Maybe a speed rusher in the late rounds.

I think Zbikowski could be real good. He is strong, quick and has a nose for the endzone. He could also do punt returns.

I know Griffin is pretty good but I haven't seen the other guy play yet. We definately need some help at the safety position. Just not sure Kubes will go that way with their 1st pick.

weve neglected to do anything about fielding a solid offensive line in our franchise history. i would hope these "intelligent" football minds would decide to address it properly some day.

Can we draft a new front office? You know? People who know football? Stuff like that?

1st - Adrian Peterson
2nd - Adrian Peterson
3rd - Adrian Peterson
4th - Adrian Peterson
5th - Adrian Peterson
6th - Adrian Peterson
7th - Adrian Peterson

But, seriously,
1st - Adrian Peterson (even if we have to trade up - which I doubt)
2nd - an OL to block for Adrian Peterson
3rd - a CB so we can give the ball to Adrian Peterson
4th - a S so we can give the ball to Adrian Peterson
5th - an OLB so we can get the ball for Adrian Peterson
6th - a DT so we can get the ball for Adrian Peterson
7th - a K to kick the extra points after Adrian Peterson scores

AP is the real deal. I looked at the Jets draft this year and it made me think they were preparing to suck so they could get him in the draft (possibly O'Quinn but I think they want AP) - and they still might despite picking up their first win. AP would like running behind Ferguson and Mangold a lot more than our guys, but we can hope we get AP (of course that means we are hoping that we lose a lot this year)

I am assuming a top 10 pick. I am looking for best player available from the LB, DB, WR, DT. In the first round.

In the second which ever position I went in the first , I exclude and then do it again.

Peterson should be a top 4 pick and I do not see us being in that group. We should never trade up in the early first until our core talent is solid. I also think unless a stud WR slids to us we are going Defense on every 1st day pick.

2nd day look at RB, OG and center. Kubiak will draft RB almost every year. Get used to it.

As much as I would love to get AP, I would think it would be in the best interest of the organization to trade down as far as they could to get an LT if Spencer (better suuited as a guard) doesn't work out. And if he does work out then we should pick up another DT or DE. We should try to pick up at least one if not possibly two extra picks in the second round, so that we can go after our secondary. It might be a possibility that we could actually pick up M. Bush in the second, because of him breaking his leg and missing the season. The draft will be deep at the secondary postion and the second is where we should pick up a couple. If we trade down far enough like 15-20 we could even pick up a very good FS to complete our lack of talent at the postion.

I understand your point but AP in Kubiaks system, one cut then straight downhill would be stupid to pass on, especially with DD status up in the air and unproven talent @ RB. Pass on Reggie Bush, alright but pass on Adrian Peterson its on :fight:

Alright based only on yesterdays game and preseason. This is what I would draft.

1.) CB
2.) OLB
3.) DT
4.) RB
5.) S
6.) LB
7.) BPA

In FA I would be looking for a space eater at the DT to replace Payne. Also, look for us to grab a Guard. We are going to build inside out, and my predictions also include this year Eric Winston eventually being worked into starting RT by the end of the year.

I would love to have AP as well, but based on our need to improve the team as a whole then i would have to trade down and pick up M. Bush in the second round along with the additional players that would come with the trade down. I will admit though that I wouldn't in the least bit be upset if we weer to finally get a franchise RB like AP, however, it's hard for me to believe that GK would pick a RB in the first round. McNair and everyone else is saying that he doesn't believe that this is a rebuilding year, but how could it not be whenever we ran a 3-4 defense and never constructed a solid D or O-line. It starts in the trenches and the battle is up front, so I really hope that Spencer and Williams work out or we will be picking up and LT or DT/DE if we trade down.

great, use a 1st rd. pick on a DE/DT four consecutive years and still not stop any good offense or establish a solid running game :pigfly:

first, here is hoping the 06-07 Texans will not be so bad there in position to draft Peterson, but if so then there is no way GK can pass on him despite his record drafting RB's in Denver & now Houston, that line is just not going to wash and still look clean :homer:

Right now, we need a secondary. If we can find a top flight CB, lets get him. I know i'll be hit w/neg rep or something for this, but after a year I would expect our fresh new CB to push Daunta for #1 CB. We also need a FS. We need a young C. We need an OLB, buster davis?

I still think we need a LT, because Spencer still seems like a RG to me and Wand is not the answer at all.

Also, I doubt we draft an offensive skill position in the first. Peterson, Lynch, OK state guy, LSU guy....Johnson, Ginn, Jarrett, Rice...the draft will be loaded w/offensive studs at the top, plus Bush from Louisville.

Here is a guy to watch for this season: the LT from Maryland. I dont know his name, and don't care enough this early to look it up, but he is better than D'brick. I'm still pushing for a real LT, and going w/my feeling that Spencer is a OG.

we can't year after year flip flop the offensive line, LT in particular. I'm satisfied with Spencers play to date and know he will continue to improve with more experience. Pitts is a lock @ LG, Flanagan is our Center with McKinney RG and Weigert RT & don't forget about Eric Winston. Give this line time to play together and develop timing/execution.

If you recall before last years draft when people where polled which RB they would rather want Bush or Peterson it was virtually split. I just can't see the Texans passing on that type of talent @ a need position two years in a row given the opportunity (man this is early to start talking about this, but yeah we're used to it I guess). Not only would he make the line look better the Texans could pound the ball, control the clock, keep Carr protected and open up the passing lanes.

Someone for our secondary or our running back would be nice so far. But its only game one so we have a long ways away to go.

Why does everyone keep saying that Kubes doesn't pick rb's until? I never knew of any O C that called a draft. It was not kubes team to pick up players at Denver.

I see us being active again in FA next year, then will pick BPA in the draft..

Another player to watch is the QB out of Florida Leak, and Smith out of Ohio State, but he might be a little undersized for the NFL, we will see, Who else does everyone like out here for the upcoming draft or Heisman Trophy?

I know this is going to sound harsh but when is the last time a Florida or Miami QB has turned out to be worth anything in the pros?

I'm honestly trying to think of one. I know I have to be missing someone that turned out to be great that I cannot remember, but all I can think of are guys who basically never turned out to be anything.

Kenny Irons RB out of Auburn is my pick. I mean if we were high enough to get AP you gotta do it, but Irons is solid and should excell in this system. If not him than a linebacker, I like the LB's out of Oklahoma and Florida state don't remember their names, but they should solidify our OLB position.

Don't you think he will drop a bit with the nasty break he got last week? His leg was broken real bad. And it was not pretty. He will need some heavy time and surgery to correct that lower leg.

I am even wondering if he takes a medical year and play college again next year to prove his health.

I like Posz in the first. (PennSt OLB) But he maybe dropping to mid 1st. I think we will have our choice of the best LB or DB in this draft picking between 6-11.

I think most of all we need experience in the secondary

I would go
R1 RB
R2 front seven defense
R3 front seven defense
oline

In FA get a CB or safety with experience.

What about Michael Griffin, S, Texas or Tom Zbikowski, S, Notre Dame?

Without a doubt we need safety help. I just don't know if I would take one in the first round. I think I would go CB or LB. Barring something crazy happening I think you can usually get a very good one in the 2nd or 3rd.

I think it just depends on where we are drafting and who's available...IMO, if we are in position to draft Calvin Johnson I don't see how we can pass on him...I think this years running back class is going to be fairly weak overall speaking...But if we can get Zbikowski in the second that would be good...Im not sure what his draft status looks like yet, but either way we should be able to get a good LB and DB in the first and second round....What order will probably be determined by who the best player available is...

Imo if our running game doesnt get any better we might have a shot a AP. But if it does get better then I see us in the middle of the first round. If that happens I would expect us to pick a LB or secondary help.

I was refering to that, that is why I put plus Bush. I meant he is a talent, but won't won't be at the top of the draft class. He is still a hos and quite a talent who may take an eric winston type slide.

If we're in a position to get AP, you've GOT to take him IMO....but it just seems to good to be true (getting him, not necessarily the part where we would be in a position to get him).

If we're not, I say take Michael Griffin from UT. The kid is a fast playmaker at Safety...definately needed.
