The only way Carr gets benched is if the Texans lose. So how many losses are you willing to endure?

As many losses as Kubiak is willing to endure.

(This should be one of the options)

This is one of the most depressing threads I've seen in The Bull Pen in quite awhile.

Hoping for your team to lose - for whatever reason(s) - is the antonym of the definition of fan, IMHO.

You'd really have to be drinking some Carr hatorade to hope we lose any games.

If he's really stinking it up after 4 games or so and hasn't shown an inch of improvement, give Sage the start (if Kubiak thinks he can do it without being terrible). Then see how Carr responds, and how Sage does. Of course if they both end up sucking and neither gets a fire lit under them by then, your ship is sinking really fast at that point.

LOL. I just wanted to see if some people's hatred of Carr overrides their desire of the Texans winning. If you want Carr benched, you are saying you want the Texans to lose at least a little since he is the starter.

This isn't something you can put a number on. If David and David alone is the reason we are losing then he will not be starting long at all. However, I think far too often we blame him for things beyond his control. I have been frustrated with his play as well, but sometimes its going to be the new system. Sometimes the WR runs the wrong route, and he is picked off. Othertimes the O-line will wiff on a block giving up a sack/fumble. Yes, David will throw picks, and Touchdowns. In the end it will be the team that wins and loses these games.

However, all that said I think he will start to look better. The only thing I worry about is his lack of passing TDs. But its preseason and he is seeing limited action.

Go Texans! :texflag: :trophy: :texflag:

It really depends on HOW we lose. (assuming we lose. :redtowel: ) I choose 6-10. (for the 10) Then we should sit him and let him sweat it a little.

However, I really think we should go at least .500 this season. (Looking at the schedule.)

Losses aren't the main determining factor for David Carr. If David Carr is having a good year, not making dumb mistakes, etc... but our defense isn't able to stop anyone so we lose high scoring games, then Carr probably wouldn't get benched at all even if we lose 14 games again. It's a team game. Losses don't determing whether a QB is benched. His performance does.

I don't think that Carr's benching should be related to wins and losses; I think it should be related to his performance. If we win games and he looks bad, we should bench him. If we lose games and he looks good, then we shouldn't bench him.

Ultimately, I trust Kubiak to make the right call.

I'm not saying I want Rosenfels over Carr this year. I don't think either of them are the future. I think we'll improve this year. Then, next year we can improve even more with a new QB.

It's funny though. Remember Kubiak's speech when he got hired about how he thought David Carr would be the next John Elway? Words are so empty.

I thought I saw Kubiaks news conference when he was hired. I don't recall him saying Carr would be the next Elway. Did I see a different news conference?

I am one of the Carr boosters here, but even I don't expect him to be the next Elway.

Is there a link to a transcript of the news conference that I can read it for myself.

This poll makes less sense than Ozzy Osbourne trying to say "Rubber baby buggie bumper" three times real fast.

I'm unwilling to endure any losses, any time, for any reason.

Call me crazy.

I think Carr locks onto his primary receiver, has poor pocket poise & awareness, has great difficulty finding his hot route on a blitz and runs out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage too often; but I donít want the Texans to lose any games. Iím hopeful that Kubiak can correct Carrís problems.

If it wasn't specifically at the press conference, then it was sometime very soon after he was hired, and did a bunch of interviews on tv shows and radio and whatnot. I know he compared David Carr to John Elway, because someone started a topic about it, and made a big deal about it.

I'm sorry, but I think this is (a) stupid and (b) not funny, the only 2 reasons I could imagine it being posted.

I dislike Carr greatly and have since the first. My guess is that he is a total loss and that even in Kubiak's system he will not succeed.

However, if he turns out to be Elway, or Brady, or any one of a dozen good QBs in the league, then I'd be happy to have him running the team.

The reason I dislike Carr is that he plays badly. It's not a personal thing.

Worst post I've ever seen!

I don't like David Carr. I wasn't impressed with him from the time he was drafted. I was not happy that he was rewarded for his consistent underachievement with an extension and bonus.

However - if I refused to want the Texans to lose to improve draft position, I am certainly willing to want the Texans to lose to get rid of Carr.

As long as the coaching staff remains loyal to Carr, I will continue to hope that he will prove me wrong.

This is the most idiotic post I have seen in quite a while. If the Texans are winning with Carr why would you want them to get rid of him? Who in their right mind would want the Texans to lose this season just so they will get rid of Carr? Our best chance of doing anything is that Carr figures it out, starts playing well and we start winning.

RiotCommander

I agree here. Even if we were to lose this season and draft Quinn. He is going to need a few years to adjust too most likely. By the time he is ready to lead us into the playoffs many people will want him benched. I guess Carr taking all those sacks didn't earn him any points with some fans. I think he has earned at least a year to get his feet under him.

Carr hasn't earned anything. He hasn't had to compete for his job in his four years with the Texans. And he certainly hasn't performed well enough in any of those four years to get another year's grace period.

Carr is a single player. The Texans will win and lose as a team. If the team is mistake free and Carr is stinking it up hes gone. But, Carr has too much talent to fail if the other players are clicking. The Steelers wanted Bradshaw gone! Plunket bounced around for years. Few QB's make a team changing impact there 1st couple years. Add to that Carr started on a expansion team as a rookie he should get the benefit of the doubt. Manning would have been as bad on this team maybe worse since he cant run. Pastorini was all world 1st million dollar QB strong arm and moble for back then. No line, no RB, 1 receiver Burroughs. He may have won 3 SB's had he gone to Pitt or Dallas. Andre Ware, heisman winner, worthless. NE's Brady like the 237th pick? Heisman winning QB's usually dont do much in the NFL or when they do its yrs later. Steve Young rode the bench what 5yrs? The Sage bashers say hes been a #2 for 5yrs so he cant be good. Huh?

If every play is a defensive jail break and RB are missing there blocks is it ALL Carrs fault if he cant throw down field? Teams are going to blitz Carr often till he proves he can get the ball out on a quick screen or slant. Coaches and all the other 10 players have to do there job for it to work. If the other 10 are in the right spot and Carr still flubs it up (consistantly)...he will be benched by Kubiak.

I think he played well enough in 2004. Last year was just a horrible year for everybody on our team, except for maybe Jerome Mathis.

Of course not, it should have been Vince here right?

The sooner you try to get over it, the better you will feel. Then you won't have the need to want our team to lose to prove you right.

You should seek psychological help while you still can. :hides:

You'd be amazed how much fun you will have with our team this year when you feel better!!!! :shades:

I agree with most of this, but he has played up to or above expectations for the first 2.5 yrs. He started to lose it half-way through the 3rd season. Not saying he was great those first 2 yrs., but he was better than could really be expected for a new QB and bad protection, etc. I think that, had he had competition for the first 2.5 yrs., he would've won his job up to that point anyway. For 1.5 years now he has played badly himself, adding to the other problems that weren't his fault. I am not happy with his play this preseason either, but at least it has gotten better. I'm not ready to give up on him yet, but this year is it, as I've said several times before.

Also, we should remember that, the one time he was allowed to call his own plays, he did much, much better last year. Granted it was against the Cardinals, but there was a tremendous difference, even within that very game. The coaching staff had a lot to do with his problems as well, but he needs to get it together in a hurry now, if that's going to be his excuse.

"IMO, success this year would be a MUCH GREATER indication of Kube's ability as a coach and the system than in Carr's leadership at all."

Wow so If Carr gets better its has nothing to do with him? Soooo If Carr doesnt do well are you going to blame Kubes or Carr?

I think i know your answer. Therefore...Carr gets no credit for improvment and all the blame for if he doesnt. NICE!

Jwwillis
09-03-2006, 10:20 AM
:homer: , it would be helpful if you actually READ the post.
Didn't say Carr would get NO CREDIT for improvements...
What I said was, if the Texans are successful this year...it's MORE to do with Kubiak's system than Carr's abilities or leadership.

And to answer your question, "who's to blame?"
It depends on the situation on gameday. We've already seen passes that have hit receivers in the hands and dropped them...duh, that's not Carr's fault. But we've seen quite a few thrown behind receivers and some VERY questionable decisions made by Carr ALREADY...duh, that IS his fault, IMO. If Carr makes improvements...duh, that is HIS JOB!!!! He SHOULD make improvements! And if he isn't able to make improvements, then (not to be repetitive, but)...duh, he isn't doing HIS JOB!

I'm a Texans Fan...but that doesn't mean that I am a Carr Fan (:homer:).

In Texas this post is referred to as "craw fishin" You know you have stated there is nothing Carr can do to change your mind about him. Kinda silly if you ask me. Did he steal your girlfriend or something.

You'd be wrong because I was one of the now 63 who voted zero. Just because I don't think David has earned anything up to this point doesn't mean I want the Texans to lose so that he'll get benched (as I stated a few posts prior). I want him to step up and prove me wrong because he's apparently the only QB that any of our coaches are willing to start.

Oh, and - go Bulldogs.

i would give the guy 3 games if he still playing like dc usually plays lets get rose in there and try to salvage the season. well we are a week away from game one of the season. is it possible we can rewind back to april and not give carr his bonus. also remeber when everyone was saying we dont need bush we have dd hes a good back who will do great in this system, well unfortunatly we dont have him now we are starting a 6th round rookie at rb. i think our offense is going to struggle again this yr. thought with moulds coming in we would get better but with carr at qb and no proven rb's think the offense is gonna have a tough time putting up points this yr. maybe next season we can addresss the qb and rb spots. i hope so...

You still have to accept it, he is our QB until Kubiak changes his mind. And if you believe Capers ruined him, then maybe, just maybe, Kubes can help fix him. He at least deserves a try.
