As you can tell by my name...I am a Philly fan. I live in South Jersey, and root for the home team.

My question for you all...is where did all of the Texan fans come from?

I noticed that in general, you all seem to share the same loathing for the Cowboys that NFC east teams have. So I am assuming that you arent transferred Cowboy fans.

Are you football fans that just didnt have a team to root for? Are you transplanted to your new home team from another team that you used to root for? Are you majorily old Texans Fans from the first go around?

Ive always been curious as to where expansion teams fans came from. Considering that the Texans best season was 7-9, its obvious that you arent bandwagon jumpers, and I can definitely appreciate that. The Eagles have had more than their share of bandwagon fans...which I despise...

Just curiousity killing this cat :)

Most of us are Houstonians....so most of us are old NFL fans (I started following the Oilers around 1970-71)...we didn't just fall off of some truck as Houston has been an NFL city for most of my adult life.

Houston already had an NFL fan base due to the Oilers and many of us became fans of the Texans after going without NFL football for a long time. We were happy to have football back.

Who were you guys rooting for in that lapse of time between the Oilers and Texans? Or did you stick with them when they moved, and then transfer to the Texans when they arrived?

or were you just general NFL fans?

I know if my team left town, I would be heartbroken. But I couldnt stay away from football.

I tried to cheer for the Saints and Jets but could not really get into it. So instead I cheered for the misery and defeat of the Titans for every game.

Started following players more than teams. Plus pulling for the downfall of the Titans.

I have lived in H-town all of my life. Raised an Oilers, Stros, and Rockets fan naturally. When the Oilers left, I was definitely heartbroken and couldn't watch too much NFL that first year as it was painful. Pretty much went to fully focus on college football... definitely helped. Only got back into the NFL when I started fantasy football up, then we got the Texans.... and I was saved!!

Still waiting on that ROI for my PSL's I own. Although its on the horizon with Kubaik at the helm.

I was born and raised here in Houston. I've had the privledge to watch the Oilers and thier many heart breaking seasons since the early 70's. In short, it was similar to a swift kick in the b---- when the jackass took them away. It was rough for those few years without a home football team to root for. I might take some heat for this, but I followed the Titans a few years due to them still having a majority of the players they had here in Houston. I rooted for them (the coach and team) in the Super Bowl. :hides: Then came our town hero, "Mr Mcnair"!! The rest is history. Or should I say future?:bananasplit:

I lived in Houston and was raised an Oilers fan. I moved to Nashville when low and behold they followed me here. My heart is still in Houston though. So I was faced with a dilemma. Do I root for the city I love, or for Bud Adams' team. Anyone in Houston knows the logical answer to that question. I get a lot of flack here, but it'll be worth it when the Texans turn this aroung under our homegrown Texan, Coach Kubiak!

I spent most of my life in three cities: Houston, Dallas, Austin. I grew up a Dallas Cowboy fan and also rooted for the Oilers. The Jerry Jones' era, particularly the hiring of Barry Switzer, sent me packing. The Oilers left Houston shortly afterwards and I was a man without a team for 8 years until the Texans came to Houston.

Born and raised in Houston, die hard Texas fan. I have a team in the NFC I have a team in the AFC, I have a team in the NL and the AL. I am full of poop LOL. I only root for the Texans and the Astros. Dallas I will watch from a distance but I do pull for those guys to win and they are probably my favorite NFC team. When the Oilers left I was so happy because Bud "POS" Adams left with him. I was crushed at first and watching them go to the SB was hard to handle, then they undercut Eddie George so I was back to the good old :I hope you loose every game" mode. They picked up Vince so now I am in a neutral mode. Bob is a great owner and Kubiak is a home town guy so life is great. When the Oilers left I think I did what everyone else did, I turned to College Football.

I grew up near St. Louis and was a diehard Cardinals fan until Bidwell pulled an Irsay. Moved to Houston in 1990 and became a staunch supporter (season ticket holder) of the Oilers. My bad luck--another NFL team moved away from me. When the Rams moved to St. Louis, I rooted for the team in my hometown. I've pretty much always been loyal to the home team. Houston is now my home, so when Bob McNair got the Texans, they became my team (in terms of who I support).

Born in Houston, but never was an Oilers fan. I followed the Cowboys from the early 80s until around the time they cut Emmit Smith. After that I really didn't watch much more then Notre Dame until the Texans were announced. Since then I have been a fan.

That first year was great clobbering the Cowboys. I still laugh thinking about the look on Jerry Jones's face (Even when I liked the Cowboys I hated this guy. He has his hands in everything. Sort of like Al Davis.)

Same here, I took the first 2 years to learn about the game of football, then I started focusing on the team, now I'm focusing on the players and coaching.

I know if my team left town, I would be heartbroken. But I couldnt stay away from football.

I ended up being a general NFL fan, and enjoyed watching good football games for what they were, whereas, if there was something else going on that particular Sunday, I'd enjoy that too, without thinking I missed something.

But the past 4 years, I couldn't sit down and really enjoy watching the Texans play. They've been so crappy that it would ruin the other games I watched, because it would piss me off because I'd always be comparing our team to theirs and get depressed.

When the Oilers left I gave up profootball. Watched no games at all.

Best years of my life, went to church on Sunday mornings, spent Sundays doing different things with my family.

Now I'm back in the same old rut...watching pro football games. Only now the aggrivation of having another bad team is compounded by the internet and message boards. Didn't have to deal with a web site full of football experts during the Oiler years. :jk: Except for the non football team years. Really wasn't all that bad.

There have always been football fans here. It's nice to know that your soon becoming a fan as well by visiting our MB. Texas is a football state partner. Why do you think everyone recruits from this great state. And another piece of information you might need to know is that Houston is one of the largest cities in the U.S. See if your still so arogant to post after we spank your teams *** and our "D" puts McFlab on his back. Here's a question. Why did you wait to post this message only after you picked up another WR. Maybe because you think that Stallworth is going to improve your pathetic excuse for a WR core. And didn't you get one of our hand-me-down WR's in Gaff. Get away troll.

Long time Oiler fan - grew up with the Houston teams so when the team moved I followed em the first year in Tenn - but it felt just wrong so I flipped over to College games. Eventually I gravitated back to the pros and had always liked Elway so became a closet Denver fan. Shortly after then The Broncos won their Superbowls so I was happy as a fan. Then the Texans came in and I had a home town team to route for again. Granted it was little hard at first, because I truly hated the team name and color scheme to the point the first year I quit watching games as the team just looked and played awful to me. Eventually I was won over again and became a local fan again and now Kubes is our coach so I get to watch my hometown team now try and be a decent NFL Team again and here we are today.

Thansk for stopping by Eagle fan - Good luck to your squad and look forward to great game on the 10th!

Peace,

I was a Carolina Panthers fan from 1995 to 2000 (actually 1999), I had heard Houston would be getting a franchise and was interested. Then heard the names and was like oh god, surely they won't pick one of the bad ones. I heard name was Houston Texans and did a little research on Mr. McNair, I was impressed how he came to Texas and through hard work achieved a measure of success. I went out in 2000 and bought a Texans hat & T-shirt (ex-wife took hat), still have faded and worn t-shirt and have been a diehard Texans fan ever since. I have enjoyed the highs (beating Cowpatties) and lows (2-14). I will be a texans fan no matter our tally this season or any other.:redtowel:

I was an oilers fan, I remember school having one of those Reading is fundamental days and we got to pick out a book, well the book I got was about the Tyler Rose and from there started out with Oilers. I don't hate the Cowboys unless it is against the Texans then it is a hatfield and McCoys moment. Problem I have with the Cowboys and it isn't there fault, but the media/some fans.. Very hard in West Texas or parts of Central Texas to get info on the Oilers and now the Texans (thank God for Internet and this MB).

I did follow the Titans after the Oilers left (as much as I could), but with more and more ex-Oilers leaving the team by trade or retiring, my interest became less and less. Then by the grace of God, L.A. couldn't get their act together (and honestly I don't really thing L.A. gives a hoot about an NFL team, the NFL gives a hoot about L.A.) , that we got the Texans, fan since day 1 ... part is it is a Texan team and part is (as some people make fun of native Texans) I take pride in my state and the name that came with the Houston expansion team.

I personally hated to see the Oilers go, but quite honestly, I like the Texans name better.(and no Bud Adams to go with it,but that is another thread that is in the archives somewhere)

texanpride

Btw, I did follow the Eagles for about a season..10 years old and was interested (thanks to profootball digest) by an article that described how Vermeil built the Eagles up in the earlly 80's..Vermeil, Jaworski, carmichael,Wilbert montgomery,etc,etc..

If you love football the way I do, you'll never know the misery I had about the Oilers leaving town unless you lose your Eagles. Pro football was hard to watch for a very long time. It was even hard to enjoy the playoffs and Superbowl. I wrapped myself in a baseball and college football cocoon until the wonderful, honorable, fantastic Mr. Bob McNair told the NFL he had one billion dollars of financing and they could take it or leave it. They took it over the possibility of Los Angeles getting its' crap together, thank heavens.

The Texans more than likely won't be a threat to make the playoffs this year, but they already look better by leaps and bounds. (Thanks Coach Kubes) All is right with the world.

Born in Lake Charles, LA, and moved to Houston when I was 2. Growing up, it was all about the Oilers, no matter how bad they were (even consecutive 1-13 seasons).

Where I grew up, you were either a Cowgirl fan or you were an Oiler fan. I was always an Oiler fan. When they moved, it hurt. It hurt bad. Not having a team to root for hurt. When the NFL came back to Houston, that was just a slice of heaven.

There are other teams that I like. I've moved around alot over the past 20 years and I've rooted for some other teams. (Including 2 years in Yardley, PA; the Iggles are my 2nd team.) I will be a Texan fan no matter how good or bad they do. They are MY team.

To be honest, I cam to US in 1995 and reside in Houston the whole time. I used to be a Eagle Fan since 1995 up to 2002. I became the texans fan when they arrive in Houston. Nothing again the eagle it just that u don't have the change to be the fan of the home team from THE BEGINING of the franchise History. Philly still is my favorite team to vote for as long as you guy not playing the texans so please tell McNab to sit out the season opener. I always thought the question of "Where did the Texans fans come from?" as a strange one. If the Eagles moved to LA, then 5 years later an expansion team was awarded to Philly, it would only makes sense that most fans of the new team would be former Eagle fans. So, most of us were Oiler fans, not to hard to figure that one out.

I rooted for several teams when the Oilers left just because I love the NFL. I mainly rooted for Tampa Bay because they were my childhood 2nd favorite team. However it wasn't the same as rooting for the Oilers. I tried rooting for the Cowboys in 95 (I was living in Dallas and they were the only team in Texas), but I kept finding myself rooting against them. I just couldn't root for that star.

I used to pull for the Eagles a little also during the Buddy era. I was living in Wilmington Delaware and went to many games at the Vet. I attended just about every Cowboys game up there because it was always fun rooting against the Cowboys at the Vet. I always loved the loud "Dallas Svcks!" chants.

Born and raised in Houston but moved to Beaumont two years ago. Born a Oilers fan when my parents brought me home straight into Oilers gear but when they left I took up golf. Their was alot of open space{on the coarse} to scream and then cry because they up and crawled away in the middle of the night. I keep up with solid defencive teams but not the Eagles sorry have a friend who is a Eagles fan and he just stupid when it comes to football so I thought you all were. So when the Texans came to town I thanked god and had two kids to celebrate getting the Texans.J/K just happened that way so it was a good year that year.

I wasn't even a football fan until the Texans came to town. Some of that was elementary school teachers trying to force it down our throats in the "Luv Ya Blue" days, some of it was going to school on the side of the district that always got pummelled in games, some of it was the Oilers bailing right after getting out of high school.

Actually, I got into Football after picking up a discount copy of the previous year's Madden for $4.99 right around the time of the expansion draft. After that, I needed a team and hey ... one was just becoming available.

Actually, not really. I know in our area, most of the interest would probably go with the Eagles. It would be hard not to, considering they have been a part of so many peoples live for so long.

Now, if the Phillies were to leave...it wouldnt be nearly as hard to forget them...I wish that ownership would sell already, and let the fans get out of their misery...

It is pretty hard to say really though unless it were to actually happen to us. Which now that we got the new stadium, looks like it wont be happening anytime soon :)

And for those that take offense to my posting (WILLIEG) I think you need to lighten up. It was an honest question, and not meant to cause offense.
