The New York Jets thought they had bolstered the running back position Monday with the trade for Cleveland running back Lee Suggs. But a slight glitch has nixed the trade.

FOXSports.com has learned that Suggs has flunked his Jets physical, voiding the deal.
Suggs has suffered a number of nagging injuries since first earning the starting job with the Browns during training camp in 2004. Since that time, he has missed 14 of 32 games with injuries to his neck, toe, ankle and thumb.

The Jets had traded defensive back Derrick Strait to the Browns for Suggs because of uncertainty over the availability of running back Curtis Martin, who is on the physically-unable-to-perform list because of a lingering knee injury.

Martin had surgery on his right knee in December. While he continues to rehab the knee and has said publicly that he wants to play this season, he has yet to practice and some reports claim he has a "bone on bone" condition in the knee that would make a return seem less likely.

With Martin on the shelf and Suggs apparently heading back to Cleveland, the Jets are left with Derrick Blaylock and Cedric Houston to take most of the plays at running back.

The Jets, however, will likely venture back into the trade market to find insurance in the case that Martin is unable to return.
