From the Kansas City Star

"The Edwards era started with a vanilla defense, a wobbly backup offense, and a quarterback who burned Kansas City on the bootleg. Had it not been a preseason game, this 24-14 loss to the Texans in front of a half-empty stadium could’ve really raised questions about the millions Kansas City plunked down to resurrect its defense."

I noticed during the pre-game that the stadium was slow to fill, as usual.

I did see a few scattered empty seats, but the stadium looked pretty full during the game.

Is this an exaggeration or were there a lot of no shows.

Sounds like the writer wasn't too pleased with Edwards first showing.

I love all this preseason junk. If I were a writer for a newspaper who covered an NFL team, I would take my vacation during the preseason so I wouldn't be pressed to write an article filled with crap like all articles that are being written.

I would say it was 60% full. My neck is killing me so I did not give a full 360 degree look see.

I'd say about that. There were a lot of empty seats. It's (a) preseason, and FWIW I think a lot of Houston is either (b) still sore about passing on Bush/Young, and/or (c) isn't a believer yet.

And personally, I love reading opposing teams' papers'/media outlets' take on us handing out a beating. I hope to read many more of them this year.

The parking lots looked pretty full. Maybe people got themselves too full of tailgaitin' goodies to wobble into the stadium.

There was an Astros game going on as well, which was packed. :)

it makes me happy to see newspapers write bad stuff about their team after playing the texans. lets make it happen during the regular season as well :redtowel:

If you've ever done that, it's why your neck is still hurting. :ok:

They are used to Arrowhead Stadium too. 80,000 fans in the dead of winter on a losing season.

The Dynamo also had a game on Saturday. So did the Comets.
lol: Yeah I know, but the point is, the Chiefs are the only thing going in KC. A lot more things to do in this "cow" town.

I don't see Edwards staying there for very long. Like I said before, he makes great sound bites, but I don't think he's a very good coach.

anyone else notice that smirky smile on Herm's face most of the game? If Kubiak had that look I wouldn't feel too good about it. he just seemed like he was having too much fun losing the game.:twocents:

I agree. He has left the Jets with QB and RB problems for one thing. I do not see him managing a team well.

I noticed he was smirky at first, but I thought it disappeared after the first Texans touchdown.

I think he is a more so a great leader than a good coach. He will be okay if his assistants do well.

" should be noted that when the first units left the game after the first quarter, the score was tied 7-7. It should also be noted that the defense gave up 85 yards in two series during that time. Against a Texans team that finished 2-14 last year. And a quarterback that was used as a human tackle dummy.
But David Carr, rejuvenated from the addition of new coach Gary Kubiak, looked like Jake Plummer on Saturday night.

Be sure to check out the "photo slide show" on the Star's website, they've
got some good pictures including a couple dandys of Mario.
BTW, they say here that Reliant was half empty, but I heard that there was a good turnout for the game. From those who went to the game, how big was the crowd ?

I would guess 40k.

Hahaha, that slide show is amazing!! Captions are all pro-Texans, anti-Chiefs. Things like "Damien Rhodes runs in for a 4th quarter touchdown while #something, KC Chiefs, helplessly watches" or "So and so gets another sack of KC QB #7, Printers, in the 2nd quarter"

How great!

I would guess 40k.Tickets sold was 70,016. Not a big fan of them not announcing the people in the building. By my count, I came up with 52,349.

I feel bad for the Chiefs players. Apprently it's the way things are done, local media chew the local teams' rump :)

Hahaha, that slide show is amazing!!

My favorite is the one where the coaches are shaking hands after the game. Their hands are cut off so you can't see them. Herm Edwards face makes it look like Kubiak is punching him in the gut.

At the end of each quarter, lots of fans left their seats to hit the concession stands and/or bathrooms... perhaps that is when he looked at the empty seats. My thoughts were that it was quite full for a preseason game, at least 80% or more.

~45K for a preseason game is pretty good. Not up to Greenbay standards. They had 62K+ just for practice...NOT for scrimmages or games, but a stinking practice. That is un freakin real.

yep, but then it's Greenbay's team, Bad Adams taught us a painful lesson, remember?
