Now that he's been switched back to defensive end, Jason Babin is delighted to be eating larger portions again. As a rookie in 2004, the first-round pick out of Western Michigan had to streamline his diet to convert from college end to NFL outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense. The move paid off as he started every game that year. But new Texans coach Gary Kubiak has discarded the 3-4 in favor of the 4-3, and Babin is a prime candidate to start at one defensive end spot. That means he gets to bulk back up. Instead of five small meals per day -- "stupid diet," Babin scoffs -- he has five big meals. Since last year he's put roughly 20 pounds on his 6'2" frame and is up to 267, right where he wants to be.

But Babin isn't the only one excited about the change in defensive schemes and the prospect of playing end. Teammate Antwan Peek, a 2003 third-rounder out of Cincinnati, had also been switched from end to linebacker by Houston, and at 6'3" and 258 pounds he'd like nothing more than to shed his status as an NFL tweener and return to the front four. The winner of this competition, the most heated in the Texans' camp, will join rookie end Mario Williams, the No. 1 pick in the 2006 draft, in making the Texans' defensive front vastly improved. Williams will play primarily on the strong side, so Babin or Peek would be taking the weakside position. "He wants the job, I want the job," said Peek after a practice last week at Reliant Park. "It's all about who's going to take the job."

Anyone else here just shutter at the thought for teams to have Mario on the strong side, and Babin / Peek on the week.. I think I would be worried.

I think it is the team who shrugs us off as "only the Texans" who will receive the greatest amount of pain. :fireball:

Funny, that sounds like the Colts to me.

I'll take a 13-3 anyday. I would make sure not to waste an awesome season in a lowsy AFC championship game every year, though.

:shoot: I think against the Colts you line up in your pass rush formation and have Mario and Weaver come right up the middle and see if Manning can be Vince Young .

He would need some Red Bull to do that.

Pun alert: On future Battle Red days against the Colts, Manning will receive his fair share of Red Bull
