points he made .....

Texans have the #1 waiver pick

He doesn't expect to find any impact players but wants to improve depth

They look for running backs that are decisive and can quickly read the zones and not cut back prematurely

The fullback position in Denver evolved because they couldn't find a replacement for Howard Griffith once he retired

Dominack Davis needs to come to an understanding that his knee will never be back to what it was way back when .... he needs to learn to make the most of what it is

He likes all of the young running backs they have

don't know how many TEs they'll keep but it'll be fluid and somewhat dependant on how many FBs/WRS they keep

First shot at players who are waived I assume.

When a player is cut, we have first shot at negotiating/signing him.

Ok, so any player cut from any team we have first dibs at trying to sign them?

Until they start the regular season, we will be in the #1 slot. After that, it is dependent upon current year record, or at least that is my understanding of it.

I hope Thunderkyss comes and reads this. That statement sucks. Way back when? Davis is not that old and has only played what 3 seasons? Could Davis' career be over or is Smith basically saying Davis needs to quit being a baby about the pain?

Yea I knew that sounded a bit controversial so I tried to write exactly what he said and not attempt to interpret what he meant .....

I think I got it pretty close ....

Now as for how I interpreted it .... I'm leaning toward the latter ... that is to say that DD's knee will never be what it once was and he needs to learn to play through it ... :twocents:

I'm buying more into the degenerative arthritis theory which our resident orthopedist has suggested. In that case, it won't get better and will almost certainly get worse making "playing through it" difficult for the rest of his playing days.

The waiver process is good until the third or fourth week of the season when they reshuffle to the current reverse order of standings.

Still seems like its a little too early to say his knee is toast. Who knows he might just need a few more weeks.

Well he needs to get out there soon. What do we have now 4 weeks including this one?

Was he hinting that DD can't make the club from the tub ?

I especially liked the RS description of how the fullback position evolved while he was with the Broncos. Listening to him talk about the details of positions, O and D schemes, etc. one quickly can tell he knows a lot about the nuts of bolts of the game, probably far more than a Casserly since he played in the Big 10 and then coached there and in the NFL before moving to Denvers FO. I'm sure he's got a lot to learn before he is on the same level as Cass as administrator, but he's smart and will get there. In the meantime, I'm feeling
real good about his NFL football knowledge and the value that brings in evaluating talent for the Texans.

As I remember the priority stays the same for the first month or so of the season. Enough time for teams to start to estblish that they really are really sorry versus having a bad week or two.

Question Will Rick Smith have a weekly show on 610?

Plus it lets the standings sort out. Tough to prioritize half the league being 0-1 after week one.

I think Smith is saying that DD needs to be OK with the very real possibility of not being the centerpiece of the running back squad.

More confirmation that it looks dreary.

Stinks. DD is one of my favorites.
