What the heck happened to this guy??? Awesome college player, first round pick, etc. I know that the Texans are pretty well set at WR, but why not bring him in for a look.

Chargers | Woods released

The San Diego Chargers have announced the team has waived WR Rashaun Woods.

Former first-round pick Rashaun Woods was released by the Chargers on Aug. 1 to make room for WR Gerran Walker, who was claimed off waivers from Indianapolis. Woods was acquired by the team earlier this offseason from San Francisco, the team that originally drafted him, when they dealt CB Sammy Davis for him. A former collegiate superstar who has grossly underperformed in the pros...

Supposedly Rashaun Woods was supposed to greatly help out there passing game too...so much for that. I'm fine with what we've got at WR and we don't really need to bring him in and other teams looking at WRs more than we are will bring him in for a look before we get a shot.

I think he has potential. I wouldn't mind the Texans bringing him in. If he makes the club, great. If he doesn't, no loss.

Woods had 7 catches for 160 yards and 1 touchdown in his rookie season (2004) and spent the 2005 season on injured reserve with torn ligaments in his thumb.

Cant really blame a guy for underperforming in San Fran with no QB, I cant really have an opinion since Ive never seen him actually play.

I think him getting cut by a WR hungry team in SD says enough.

He was a stud in college at Oklahoma St., but apparently hasn't done much of anything in the NFL. He wasn't ever very fast but he had decent size and very good hands in college, not sure what has contributed to his lack of progress/development.

like mor said, not enough speed, not big enough to be a possession reciever, good hands in college. makes me think of derrick armstrong.

I really am stunned, the kid had talent. Something is going on there behind the scenes in my opinion.

The guys more interested in fishing than he is playing football, I'm so glad we traded him, we got Sammy Davis for free...at least he has a chance making the team.

Yeah, not to mention we traded him and the first place, and our WR core is less than admirable.

Well, time to eat crow. I loved this guy coming out of college. Sure, he wasn't super fast, but neither was Jerry Rice or many, many others. I thought he had great hands, precise route running, and the rest of the package needed to become at worst a solid #2 option on most any team, and maybe a #1 with enough work. Boy, was I wrong! :crying:

The knock on him that I've heard and read the mostis that he doesn't show NFL toughness and seems to get pushed around by CBs, even in practice.

That's a shame, though. I too tought that he would be a pretty good pro.

Where have you gone, Rashaun Woods?

He is the Bronco who never was. After he was claimed off waivers Wednesday by the Broncos, Woods, a former first-round receiver from Oklahoma State, flunked his physical Thursday.

Woods has a hamstring injury, which is why he was cut by San Diego earlier in the week.
