Break McNabb in half. I am thinking of a Mario Williams clothes line just like old school!!!

Plus it would make me feel better about him knocking us out of the play offs in his "homecoming" back to chicago in 2001 season. The last season in our old stadium.

Gaffney isn't their #1. Their top three, Reggie Brown, Todd Pinkston and Greg Lewis would all have good to great shots at playing for the Texans, just as #3 or below behind AJ and Moulds.

Actually Gaffney wasn't bad when AJ was out. Just because we did bad doesn't mean every position on the team was bad. AJ is a pro bowl reciever, of course Gaffney wouldn't start over him. And Gaffney is probably going to be a #2 or #3 in Philly considering they are really high on Reggie Brown and Todd Pinkston has recovered from his season ending injury last year and he was the #1 before the T.O. era and did well.

Our record was 2-14. If the Eagles need to compare themselves to a 2-14 to try to make excuses for their season, that's the Eagles problem. It's also par for the course in Eagle Country.

I think the preseason games will be good indicator of what to expect, similar to what happened last year.

If the offseason looks terrible, it could be a long day against the Eagles unless the defense becomes the monster I think they will become.

Do you know if the Broncos have typically placed more emphasis or less on winning pre-season games? Coaches differ on how they approach pre-season. For Capers it was all about player evaluation and nothing about winning. Parcells has typically tried to win. Just curious.

It's a good question, and normally I really don't put a lot into preseason games.

But, last year it was plainly clear to me when they played the Cowboys it was going to be rough year regardless of evaluation or trying to win.

I think it still holds true this year. They really need to start off on the right foot and early this year. Just my hunch though.

Did I ever say that? No. I said that comparing your chances for beating us by last year's record doesn't work. We're not the same team we were last year, if you know anything about the Texans you would know that.

McNabb > Carr (as of now, but I wouldn't be suprised if Carr has a better season)
Westbrook < Davis (Westbrook couldn't do much on the ground last year)
Pinkston < AJ (AJ is a pro bowler while Pinkston missed all of last season)
Brown < Moulds (Moulds is also a pro bowler while Brown is just in his second year)
Westbrook > Walter (as the third option at WR Westbrook is very effective and Walter hasn't been able to show what he is capable of)
Eagles OL > Texans OL (the only reason I say this is because of our past history, it would be stupid to say that we are better at the OL position than the Eagles)

If you don't have anyone to throw to how in the world can you develop a passing game, therefore opening up the running game. That's why after T.O. was suspended last year the whole offense fell apart. You wish that your offense was better than ours, and maybe it is, but to say it with that much confidence is ridiculous considering what we've done to improve our offense.

That's better than saying the fans are "retards". You have every right to think we're bad. Sure you can say it nicer if you want, but you don't have to. We were 2-14 last year, had the first overall pick, and yes, we were pretty horrible last year.

Ok the Texans are in a rebuilding mode but should be a playoff team in about 2-3 years. And im not going to write of the Texans after they had a losing season but people should not write off the Eagles either for having an awful season. Good luck week 1 and why is the offseason so freakin long

Realistically I think the Texans need help to win that opener. There's a bunch of stuff going on opening day and it's hard to really say anything intelligent about that game this far off but (despite the fact that I said I wasn't talking about this until a week before the game) here is what I am wondering about.

In an ideal Texans win situation I think what must happen is a case of the Eagles looking past the Texans. If the Eagles had finished last season 12-4 instead of what? 4-12? then I think that might have been more likely. A 4-12 season however has a way of getting a good teams attention so I think it's unlikely that the Eagles come in thinking about the next game.

The week after they play the Texans the Eagles get the Giants which is good. It's more likely that they overlook us for the Giants than say the Saints but it's still pretty unlikely and not nearly as good a situation as it would be if the TO Cowvicts were coming up for them in week 2.

Also I think another "factor" in this is how the Texans start the season. Under Capers they were .500 on opening day and, at least in the first two years they came out playing really well. In the last two seasons they came out rather flat which I think was indicative of how much they believed in what they were doing under that staff. What they're going to do for Kubiak in his first game as a head coach is anybody's guess.

Last injuries will matter. Hopefully (and I mean this Eagles78) everybody on both teams is healthy and present on opening day. Yeah I'd like to see the Texans upset the Eagles. I expect an upset every single gameday no matter what the odds until it's proven otherwise but I don't want to see anybody go down. I'm not hoping for that or wishing it on anyone.

Having said that it can be a factor. One bad injury can hurt a team. If the Texans lost Carr I'd expect the offense to suffer and likewise if McNabb went down in the preseason (seriously, God forbid either one happens) then that would technically "help" the Texans chances in the opener.

I still maintain it's too soon to be talking about this stuff.

Gaffney was bad. He didn't catch the ball half the time when it hit him right in the hands and he was primarily useless in coming back when that was needed.

I know this sounds like I can't stand the guy but I really looked forward to him having a good season last year. I just feel like he was a disappointment and I don't think he could have upgraded our team this year.....thus he was cut.

Bottom line: I wasn't surprised with and I have no problem with Kubes' decision.

There is a reason they play the games. If it was as easy as sitting down at a keyboard and saying who will win based on the roster or past seasons' performance there wouldn't be 65000 people at the stadium and millions watching.

Let me field this one.

Todd Stinkston I mean Pinkstone = Corey Bradford

Greig Lewis = a bigger version of Corey Bradford

Jabbar Gaffney doesn't look for the ball if his number isn't initialy called, and if he does catch it he fumbles it out of the back of the endzone.

I dont know who Reggie Brown is so I cant comment.

McNabb has all the time in the world to throw the ball and couldn't hit the broad side of the barn.

Runyan is the man.

Westbrook is good.

Dawkins is Scary

The freak is done

Your best pash rush was Kalu and now he is a Texan, well best two years ago, before the injury.

Do you have any linebackers?

Your corners couldn't cover a mattress.

The Eagles won a whooping 4 games more than the Texans and the Eagles, unlike the Texans, didn't do anything to improve the team.

That is why the Eagles are going to get swept by there division........again. Its going to be the Eagles fault the Cowboys make the playoffs.

My best friends are from Philly and I have had to sit through there games, three NFC championship games and one Superbowl. Not a bad run (and at the same time listening to the razing as we go 4-12, 5-11, 7-9, 2-14. My turn.) but he Eagles have taken steps backward in consecutive years. Sorry.

Look on the bright side, the Eagles will have the first pick in next years draft.

two words:
Jabbar Gaffney

That alone tells me how bad it must be for your reciever corps. It could be worse, you could be like the Lions and got Corey Bradford who is horrible. Gaffney is a very very average player and if he reaches his full potential he will be a weak #2 reciever or a strong #3.

Don't get on too much of a high horse. Last year your team was LAST PLACE in your division just like the Texans.

Anyways I hope the Eagles and everyone else pound on the Cowboys when you play them.

Please.... You know nothing of the eagles.
Mcnabb is a top 5 qb, name 5 that are better over the last 4 year period. Kalu was not our best pass rusher although he has had his good games. Kearse is not washed up. Our corners are both pro bowl caliber and we have depth on the bench with Rod Hood who would be a starter for you guys. Both of our safties have been to the pro bowl nad wehave improved the push of the front 4. Trotter is a pro bowl linebacker in the middle, Strong side and weak side are a little unknown but I think it's been addressed in the off season, we'll see how it works out. This is an awesome defense the eagles will field this year, perhaps the best in the Jim Johnson era. Our receivers are better than the receivers we had when we went to 3 straight NFC championship games before TO. O-line is solid running game is optimistic but agreeably it's a little questionable. Andy Reid can acheive by committee a decent running game he's done it before and when one of the committee is Westbrook it makes it a little easier.

That being said the Texans have a pretty good chance for the following reasons:

1. The game is home for you
2. 1st game of the year is typically tough for the Andy Reid era eagles
3. The eagles were so badly wounded last year that it may take them a few games to get thier swagger back.
4. The unknown: With a new coach and system in place there will not be any regular season game film to study. You could catch us off guard.

The Eagles will win because:
1. We are a better, more experienced team that play well on the road.
2. We have something to prove after last year
3. Number 4 from above is a weakness as well for you guys your team has so many new elements to it that may not have developed cohesiveness by opening day.
4. McNabb: When he is healthy he can win a game by himself.
5. Coaching: Andy Reid has more regular season wins than any coach in the NFL over the last 5 years in spite of last years dismal record.

Any given Sunday. Either team has a great chance of pulling it together first, the first game of the year. I think the Eagles are more intact than the Texans, so they will have less of an adjustment period. I think the Texans are on their way to becoming a tight squad who are buying into what Kubiak is selling.

If I had to predict a score, I would say 27-24, Akers wins on a last second field goal, his 2nd of the game. I like Philly's D, vs our baby new offense, and I like Brian Westbrook to burn one of our linebackers for 1 passing TD, Donovan McNabb to run one in, and Ryan Moats to get the other one.

On the bright side the Texans rack up over 400 yards of offense, but just cant punch it in. Demeco Ryans gets an INT for a TD, AJ brings one down, and one of our TE's gets the third. .....Bennie Joppru. ;)

But you cant ask more from this team than a competative game. And ill take that after what ive seen the last 4 years.

I don't understand some peoples philosophy (even my own).. gaffney wasn't so bad.. and if gaffney is their #3 WR that means he more than likely will go against our #3 Cb (faggins?) .. I think Gaff can win that battle.

as far as Eagles-Texans? .. good matchup... Eagles (healthy) should win, but with all the changes we have done, (if we get the scheme down offensively/defensively) ...should be a good game..

WE WILL SUPRISE PEOPLE(or should)

Actually, if you read the entire post it was not my rationale for an eagles win. But why would you think the Texans would score 200 points because of it? I like the Texans and I really like what they have done this off season But I am an eagles fan first. I beleive the Eagles will win the game for other reasons as stated in the part of my post that you didn't quote.

Well the first thing I am doing when we play the Eagles is watch for an onside kick early in the game and a fake punt everytime they go to punt.

No way the Texans beat the Eagles. They were in the Super Bowl two years ago. Last year was a product of injuries and their big baby imploding the team. They will be better this year.

Well for one thing you guys actually had coach that can coach, plus you guys were 4-2 before the TO mess started, then you guys went 2-8 afterwards.you guys got murdered by the Seahawks at home on Monday Night Football 42-0,Im sure the Texans could have beat you guys if we played you that time, again where are you coming from?

Oh yeah Donovan McNabb will be seeing a lot of Mario Williams in his face come gametime

How many of those last games did McNabb QB?

true true, but this is a new year, i ain't expecting the texans to win but what i am expecting is a close game.........
can't wait to see what mcnabb can do without TO........same goes to culpepper without moss

You have to look no further the the 4 years prior to last year to get that answer.

Why are you guys so focused on a WR the eagles signed for one year at a vet min. salary? If the Texans focus on the same thing.....................

[QUOTE=EF55]Please....

If this is your rationale for an Eagles win, I think the Texans are going to score 200 points.

That's just silly.:twocents:

I guess if I had 4 NCF Conference titles to rest my hat on I would too. BUT, I don't, so, I have to say that IF the Texan coaching staff is at least as good as their previous teams have been over the last four years we wil be fine. As for Gaffney, Carr hit him in the back at least twice, he doesn't look for the ball, his only defense is that Capers wasn't going to let Carr throw the ball anyway. Johnson is a great defensive guru, but maybe Smith can rebuild the "House of Pain", and wouldn't that be a game worth se'in.

I couldn't write "House of Payne", I don't think he is what we need up front, I hope I'm wrong.:homer: :homer: :homer:

Hey, I used to be a big Eagle fan back in the early 80's. Wilbert Montgomery, Harold Charmichael, Carl Hairston, Jaws... all favorites of mine growing up. But let's be real... since Leonard Tose gambled his fortune away and lost his team it's been a piece of garbage. Sure, they've been to a few conference championships and even won one. But the basic fact is that the Eagles organization has as many NFL Championships (meaning Super Bowl wins) as the Texans. No one (outside of Philadelphia) gives a crap about how good McNabb is supposed to be or how TO ruined your season last year or that Jabar friggin' Gaffney was your best offseason acquisition. Seriously, isn't there a Cowboys message board you guys can troll over to... Oh yeah, the old "we've been to the Super Bowl twice" argument doesn't really work over there. How 'bout the Redskins message board... ahhhhh foiled again. Well, there's always the Giants... dammmit, they've won Super Bowls also. How does it feel to be the only team in your division to have never won anything? And after how many years in existence?

I refuse to talk to you bandwagon fans.

The Eagles are amazing. Reid and McNabb do whatever it takes to get the job done even when it looks like they're hopelessly overmatched. No quality backs that can remain healthy, no problem. No wideouts that are consistent, no problem. Broken ankle, no problem. Having TO showed what McNabb is capable of with a good receiver, I just don't understand why the Iggles can't seem to add quality wideouts.

My wife and I lived in Yardley, PA for a couple of years. At that point, the Iggles became my #2 team and her #3 team. (Her #2 team is the Titans... which kills me.) I even went to the Vet while I was there and watched the Iggles beat the Chargers.

But the Texans are #1 in our hearts.
