Yet gave the Buffalo Bills a B+ lol. IMO he was butthurt that no USC player went numero uno. Here is what he wrote about our draft in TSN:

Houston- The Texans really should have taken RB Reggie Bush or QB Matt Leinart with the first overall selection instead of DE Mario Williams. D

Compare that with a team like...Buffalo

Buffalo- I'd like to beat up the Bills for reaching on S Donte Whitner, but they redeemed themselves with picks such as DT John McCargo, CB Ashton Youboty and DT Kyle Williams. B+

Why didn't he comment on the fact that we drafted 4 guys on the first day who will be able to compete for starting jobs this year? How did the Bills "redeem" themselves by taking an even bigger reach with their 2nd pick than they took with their 1st pick? Dont you guys just hate the talking heads with an agenda??? :shoot:

What a joke. McCargo was a good pick? If they didn't trade up in the draft they probably still could have got him at their original pick in the third round.

BTW, D was the lowest grade the talking head gave anyone. But only 2 teams got it...The Broncos and the Texans.

On all of the draft grades I've seen the Broncos are right up at the top with good grades. I'm guessing this guy doesn't like the fact that the Broncos took Cutler too. I think the Packers had the worst draft by far, and the Bills first part of the first day was horrible (but they took steals of Youboty and Simpson) but that's just me.

Its funny you mention the Packer's draft.... they were the only team to receive an A+ in Pompei's draft grades lol

Green Bay- With LBs A.J. Hawk and Abdul Hodge, the Packers have the beginnings of a defense that could dominate the NFC North for years. A+

Most of these wacks were mad the Texans did not draft Bush, therefore they deducted pts from the draft grade.

Sort of like when you did not turn your HW in, you were deducted 10 pts from your overall grade......the Texans were deducted 30 pts for not drafting Bush! :hunter:

Cincinnati Bengals -- C
They might have taken the best cornerback in the draft in Johnathan Joseph. The Bengals continue to gamble too much on players who are character risks.

Miami Dolphins -- C
Safety Jason Allen could be a star if he stays healthy. The team didn't get much after him, though enigmatic seventh-round defensive tackle Rodrique Wright has the ability of a much higher pick.

says enough right here. jonathan joseph sucks, and miami had a great draft. "didn't get much after him." idiot.

Houston- The Texans really should have taken or QB Matt Leinart

Dont forget San Francisco took Manny Lawson too high...and the Titans should've taken Matt Leinart and took a risk on Lendale White in the 2nd round so they get a C. The Jets can be second guessed for not taking Leinart as well.

One of my favorite lines thbough

Detroit- The Lions' recent classes have looked better on draft day than during the season, but there isn't much to dislike about the players they took this time. B

Funny, I didn't know the season has started for the Lions yet.

Wow, does this guy know anything about the draft?

I do think they got a good pick with Abdul Hodge in the third and with the 5th overall pick of course you are going to get a good player, but in the second round and third round they picked two WRs who they probably could have waited another round for. When they had a chance at Chad Jackson with #37, they passed on it. When they had a chance at Derek Hagan, who Mel Kiper said will make the biggest immidiate impact at WR this year, they passed him up to get Daryn College (who could have fallen to the third round) and Greg Jennings (who is at the best a 3rd round pick). They really screwed up a chance to help out Brett Favre and themselves.

Everytime they showed a Williams highlight, Mccargo was there so either Wiliams or Mccargo are both good or one of them is benefitting from the other's talent. Methinks it was Williams who benefitted.

Who the eff is Dan Pompei? And more important, why do I (or would I) care what he thinks of our draft? :um:

Opinions are like yada yada yada and they all stink.

No we got deducted 30 pts for screwing up an unscrewable position.

That's why.

From the Pompei article HoustonFrog linked:

People around the N.C. State program will tell you Williams had to be pushed to work hard in the weight room...

Williams was one of a number of draftees who worked out better than they played and subsequently was chosen higher than his tape merited.

Huh? Williams has to be pushed hard in the weight room, but he's also a workout warrior? What is it dude?

At the combine (where most top prospects refuse to workout), Mario had a 40" vertical, 10' broad jump, benched 225 lbs 35 times, and ran a 4.6 forty. At 295 lbs. If Pompei is right about Williams not liking the weight room (control your laughter), what kind of monster does he become when working out and playing football is his fulltime job? To me, that's just another reason for Williams to go #1.

This article is just like so many of the Reggie vs. Vince posts we saw here prior to the draft. Cut down the other guy, so your guy looks better. Then come up with an arbitrary list of criteria that "proves" your guy is the best. Hey, I liked Reggie the best. But that doesn't mean that I don't think Mario isn't going to become a great player. And I could make up a list of 4 requirements for a #1 overall pick that Mario could meet and Reggie couldn't. What would that prove? Nothing. Just what this Sporting news piece proves.

Draft grades dont mean anything. Wanna know why the Redskins are getting C- and D on their draft grades? Becuase they only had one first day pick. Not becuase of their actuall draft.

Besides, this fool is stupid. The only good pick the bills had in my opinion in Ashton Youbouty and thats just becuase he was good value at that pick. I personally think he will be a bust just like John McCargo.

I just noticed what I wrote and I meant the second, not third round. I don't think that changes what you said though and I actually had McCargo going in the third in my mock draft (the whole thing ended up being way off, but it was a pretty crazy draft).

Kirwan hit it on the nose when he said grading drafts right now was pointless. Some picks look dumb now, but will look brilliant later.
