View Full Version : Let's name our defense..."Bull Rush" or...

Ok, I'll admit boredom has sunk in after the draft. However, I'm really excited about the prospects for our defense. Some of the great D's of the passed...Purple People Eaters, Steel Curtain, Orange Crush, etc. all had hard core names.

So what could call our new Texans' D...

1. Bull Rush
2. Blue Thunder
3. Texas Tornado
4. Other

Maybe something with "stampede" or other term. Have some fun and see what you can come up with.

First thing's first. I think we need a Smash Mouth safety that scares receivers and a middle linebacker that dominates. With our current defense and these two things, how scary would that be. Then we can really make a name for ourselves.

Tale Gator coined the Dirty South D.

Death row does not encpasulate the whole defense in my opinion.

I could handle Bull Rush.

I like the sound of the Slaughterhouse for Reliant.

Two others to kick around the Stampede and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

I like the Dirty South D as it is ambiguous and gives the players and fans some poetic license to have fun with it.

Let's see if we can freaking stop someone before we coin a nickname. A name like the ones being suggested needs to be earned. That being said, Bull Rush ain't bad. Dirty South is a South East thing, GA, FL, AL, MS LA. Slaughterhouse sounds cool, but it's where Bulls & Cows get killed. We were already there last season. Hopefully, we will intimidate this season.

Nicknames are best when they are spontaneous. Back in the early 80's Thomas Bonk wrote in the Houston Paper that the Cougars were the Phi Slamma Jamma of basketball and the rest is history. Thomas Bonk moved on to the LA Times soon after. His career was made with that quip.

Naming a defense has to be organic. It has to grow out of their performance on the field.

You can't name a defense before they have an identity. We are hoping that they will be good, but it is the first year of a new scheme and incorporating lots of new players not used to playing together. It is very possible it will take some time to gel.

Name the defense after they start destroying people.

Alright, to wrap this thread up. Officially, voters liked "Bull Rush" the best, however, a few other names like...

- Death Row (front 4)
- Texas Tornado
- Slaughter House (Reliant)
- Shock and Awe
- Asylum (Reliant)
- Blue Thunder
- Texas Chainsaw Massacre
- Blue Murder
- Blue Blitz
- Bull Pen
- Mad Cow Disease

...all got some play. While names are usually earned and spotaneous, it was interesting to here some of the ideas thrown out.

In the end, I thought about rodeo (of which I know nothing about) and Teddy Roosevelt (who I admire). So with those in mind, I like the ROUGH RIDERS as a potential nickname for next year.

Alright, to wrap this thread up. Officially, voters liked "Bull Rush" the best, however, a few other names like...

- Death Row (front 4)
- Texas Tornado
- Slaughter House (Reliant)
- Shock and Awe
- Asylum (Reliant)
- Blue Thunder
- Texas Chainsaw Massacre
- Blue Murder
- Blue Blitz
- Bull Pen
- Mad Cow Disease

...all got some play. While names are usually earned and spotaneous, it was interesting to here some of the ideas thrown out.

In the end, I thought about rodeo (of which I know nothing about) and Teddy Roosevelt (who I admire). So with those in mind, I like the ROUGH RIDERS as a potential nickname for next year.

You never liked my suggestion?

Naaaah,
How about "Ryans Raiders" or "Ryans Rawhiders" in favor of DeMeco Ryans (or something along that line)
I know, I know...it's corny, but then this whole thing is too...

Let's not forget the first defensive powerhouse we had...Dunta Robinson.

How bout Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood. Hey there everybody...welcome to Mr Robinson's neighborhood. Can you spell Cranial Cavitation? Say hello to my new friends...Mario, Demeco, and Li'l Anthony. Can you say Train of Pain? Sure you can.

Man he's leveling that guy. If not a knockout at least a TKO.

If you say his name 3 times fast it makes the theme from Jaws right before the shark attacks.

Awesome. They should play that over the speaker system when he takes the field, like the Killer Bee's ditty they do at Minute Maid Park.

"Running of the Bulls" or "The Texans Bullseye"

I like the idea of the crowd shouting "BULLSEYE" whenever we get a sack in :)

i think that when we sack opposing QB's, we should yell, "HEY! (Insert name of QB) YOU JUST GOT SACKED!"
