Said the most pressing needs for the Texans are OL, pass rush.

Reggie Bush is a great choice because he'll make everyone better. He'd take Bush if he was GM.

Spoke highly of Carr. Said guys like him don't come around too often.

Thinks highly of VY... better than Leinart. VY is more well-rounded than Mike Vick. VY has better control of his body because he doesn't run as fast as Vick.

VY isn't as polished of a passer but a better runner than Elway.

Talked about VY's poise...he thrives on pressure.

Talked about Vick, changed the system to fit his skillset. Reeves getting fired set Vick back. Vick's been through 3 offensive systems as of now.

Dp - Dan Patrick

DP - What's most pressing need?
Reeves - Awful lot of them, offensive line, did a good job against the run, need to do better in pass rush.

DP - Does it make sense to get Bush?
Reeves - It's debateable, but Bush is a great guy, makes the other guys better.

DP - If you had to choose, who would you take?
Reeves - Bush. With the committment to Carr, they need Bush in a skill position.

DP - Who did you like out of the QB position
Reeves - Rare talent, who can throw/run and keep both coordinators up at night. Leinart/Cutler are good, but Young is really talented. Lots of upside.

DP - Compare Vick/Young
Reeves - No comparison. Young can stay in pocket. Throw in pocket. Does have the mobility. Mike is a guy who you have to utilize his movement ability. Totally different. Young is more in control of his body while running. Vick has a difficult time because he goes so fast.

DP - Compare Elway/Young
Reeves - Further along passing than Young. More polished coming into the pros. Young is a better runner though Elway could hurt people running. It will take VY a little time to catch up to where John was. Young showed a lot of improvement in the last year.

DP - how do you measure poise?
Reeves - Play in crucial games and make good decisions. Young seemed to enjoy tough situations. Like Elway, Michael Jordan

DP - Would you trade LT and Brees for Vick again?
Reeves - Without question. There are reasons he has struggled a bit. Three different systems has made him struggle. By reeves getting fired, he's going to set a QB back with his play ability

Wow....... when Dan Reeves compares Young to Elway, says he is more talented than Leinart/Cutler...... tells you he is different than Vick...... It's got to make you think.

I never liked the Vick Pick...... but I was impressed at the success Reeves was able to get out of him so quickly....... that's coaching, & I like Reeves standing up, supporting that decision, and Michael Vick now.......... Classy guy.

I can see how you could make that connection but I think his opinion of the #1 pick is pretty much like 99% of the other football insiders .... draft Bush ...

Let's not forget, a person like Reeves who isn't emotionally involved in a pick might think more than one player is really, really good - and admit it. For instance he could think Vince is fantastic and still think Bush is better, or vice versa.

If I were a HUGE VY guy, I would HATE being compared to Vick. IMO - Vick is a terrible QB. I don't mean he's avg or he's ok or he's pretty good. IMO as a QB, he's terrrrible! I don't care how many OC's he's had or that he can't pick up the West Coast - blah..blah..blah...

He throws a tight spiral and he can run fast. Wow. He can't throw TD's, his running is on the decline, he can't read defenses, he makes TERRIBLE decisions, and he can't lead a horse to water.

VY, IMO, will be a MUCH better QB than Vick. Vick is a flashy little 5'10 runner playing QB. Vince is a 6'5", humble leader who makes plays happen and inspires his team. I don't think VY is a fit for our team as it currently stands with DC and would prefer Bush, but I'd take VY 100 out of 100 times over Vick...and Reeves is NUTS if he'd do that pick again.

Well, he may not be but from the interviews I've seen he seems pretty nice. Maybe humble is a bit much cuz he does drop the 3rd person on us quite a bit! "Vince Young is gonna be Vince Young." :)

I just don't like Vick at all..and wouldn't trade Carr for that guy.

But they wouldn't have extended Carr if he thought they should take Young.

It's not just about 'taking the best player', it's about what's best for the team. You can't take 3 QBs in a row just because they're the best player on the board. You can't take any position 3 times in a row unless you're the Detroit Lions, and look at the joke they've become.

Bush is the right pick.

"And with the 9th pick in the draft, Detroit selects Santonio Holmes of Ohio State!!! :-)

You get to do that win you win a championship. He didn't talk before the game he did it when he had the trophy in his hand and he left it all there too.

As for why Reeves talks glowingly about Young, it is because the questions were about Young.

No. That gig was up a couple of months ago. He's doing analysis for NFL shows now.

I've got a lot of respect for Reeves, both as a player and a coach. He's a classy guy.

It's interesting to hear his take on Young. He has played with and coached some of the NFL's greatest QBs, so the man knows his stuff.

This draft is tough, and I think it'll be a situation that we'll be happy with Bush (assumption of pick) now, but will have regrets 4-5 years down the road about missing the chance to pick Young. Hopefully we're a winning team by then and the sting won't hurt as much...well, except for those two games every year.

While I agree with your post generally (VY does not compare to Vick, Vick sucks, all true points) where do you and everyone else get this "Vince eats humble pie three meals a day" schtick? Has anyone ever met him? For that matter, what person who would have the least knowledge on Vince has ever even said the guy was "humble?"

Just wondering. Anyone who endorses Vince Humility, please clarify.

The "humble" tag gets thrown around far too often to describe athletes. As long as a guy doesn't come across as an arrogant jack***, they get called, humble. Athletes are no different than a lot of people, when they think they're good at something, it tends to show.

Now, is Young a 'me-first', self-absorbed, 'I am the greatest and no one can tell me what to do' kinda guy? Naw
Does referring to himself in the third person and dancing on the field rub people the wrong way, and make him seem cocky and arrogant? To some people, but that's their problem...

I can accept and understand his position..... with the commitment to Carr, & more importantly IMHO, after giving Rosenfells a bit of change..... what are you going to do.

But I cannot accept arguments from "knowledgeable" football fans who do not believe Vince is worthy of the #1 overall........ fans who think..... honestly, that he will be a bust....... fans who think Reggie will be able to cut through NFL defenses like he did in college, Yet Vince will struggle, even though Vince's running style has never been about speed. And I refuse to accept arguments from any one who says, "We won't be drafting Vince, so get over it" or something equally silly.

Why does that bother you so much? Some people think Bush or Williams is worth the #1 pick. Let's say Williams so that this doesn't get too emotional.

If a poster thinks Williams is the best player, he's worth the #1 pick for him. Therefore that poster says Young isn't worth the #1 pick - because in his analysis there is a better player available.

You say Vince is worth the #1 pick. If you had it, you would therefore not pick Williams, or Bush, or anyone else - they aren't worth the #1 pick since Vince is available. Maybe people are therefore astounded that you don't think Williams is worth the #1 pick.

Does it come down to the fact that your analysis is the only correct one? That is what I don't understand. Everyone else is just dead wrong and you are enlightened?

IMO this is a nice, deep draft. I'm going to be pretty happy with whoever they draft unless they go crazy. There are many players who are very, very good. If I say I think Hawk is better than D'Brickashaw, that does not mean I think D'Brickashaw is very, very bad. Just because I like double dutch chocolate ice cream better than chocolate fudge ice cream doesn't mean I hate chocolate fudge.

IMO, this pick is coming straight from the top, Mr. McNair. He wants to keep Carr and Bush adds to that equation, it's really as simple as that.

I didn't hear the interview of Reeves, I just read the transcription posted. Whoever did it, thanks. Reeves wasn't asked directly about Carr, but he could have pointed out some things about Carr and his quarterback play and how Vince really isn't needed.

Maybe there isn't anything to point out.

It seems like it was decided before Reeves was hired that Carr is the guy no matter what. In other words, McNair just hires guys to tell him what he already wants to hear, tow the company line that is. This is just a hunch.

That just seems to be the case the more I think about Kubiak's interviews regarding Carr.

They also chose to extend Carr when they could have opted to pick Young instead. :stirpot:

Again..... I wouldn't start any rookie his first week, week1....... none, not Peyton, not Carson, not Aikman........ none. So to me, it made sense. I'm going to be paying at least $2mil to a vet to help my team win, and so I can have more, " see, that's what you do in that situation." and not as many, "I don't ever want to see you do that"........ We owe David something.... & to me, the opportunity to improve his future value..... I'm going to be trading him, so I'll pay him a premium while he's here.

I don't know.

I guess more than anything, it's the "I am right, and you are wrong" thing. As if Williams being drafted #1 would mean that Reggie is not the BPA in this draft.

Good answer.

You're BPA point is interesting. The BPA label is fine in theory, but it really depends on the team picking too. Bush wouldn't be the BPA for Seattle since they already have the leading rusher in the league, but he may be for another team like the Jets, if either of them had the first pick. He may not be the BPA for us due to cost. etc. etc.

DP - What's most pressing need?
Reeves - Awful lot of them, offensive line, did a good job against the run, need to do better in pass rush.

To me, Bush does not resolve the problems Reeves mentioned. Trading down for Mario Williams and possibly a couple extra offensive linemen should meet the most pressing needs. Why is he in favor of Bush again?

Thanks for the transcript of the interview. By the way.. Dan Patrick for Senate... He has my vote.

You are right .... It made me think "and he still would draft Reggie, damn he must be a helluva player!" ...........

He only said he'd draft Reggie BECAUSE the team had made the commitment to Carr. Sounds like that commitment was a precondition, which feeds into all we heard at the time about McNair & Co asking prospective coaches how they'd use Carr, and the one coach who apparently said he'd ditch Carr got shown the door in a hurry.

One more proof of the McNair loves Carr so Carr gets a free ride. I hope he performs this year or gets tossed. In my view, Carr is a big reason for the failure of the team so far.
