Just seen on ESPN and reported by Len Pasquerilli. I'll post a link when I find it. It was on during the Texans On The Clock

Kiper had us looking at DeMeco Ryans in the 2nd round if he fell. Eric Winston was the other player he mentioned.

The Houston Texans and the agent for Southern California tailback Reggie Bush on Friday exchanged contract proposals for the first time, and spent part of the day in long-distance talks aimed at reaching an agreement before the start of the draft, ESPN.com learned through multiple league sources.

While the exchange of numbers does not necessarily signal that the Texans have decided they will select the Heisman Trophy winner with the first overall pick on April 29, it is still a significant step. Because they own the first choice, the Texans are free to negotiate with any of the prospects, and there is a chance they are conducting similar talks with North Carolina State defensive end Mario Williams, the other player Houston has been considering as a candidate for the top spot.

I'm sure they have been discussing T's and C's behind the scenes since Bush's visit last week or the week before - whenever it was.

Awesome. The only thing better than a Bush-Ryans first two would be a Bush-Ryans-Colledge first three.

Big Deal, Its still nothing but cloak and dagger till Paul Tagliabue announces it, or until we have a signed contract on someone. Everything until then is just keeping the rest of the NFL on its toes so that we give ourselves the best oppurtunity for a deal come draft day.

If the agent is really headed for Houston then they really are trying to work out a deal. Again, I keep saying Bush has more to loose in this deal by being to demanding. We will have to wait and see. Seems like the agent said things could be complicated. I would interpret that as meaning he wants a lot.

John Clayton reiterated on ESPN's draft special what's been said many times over the last few days - Mario not offered contract, Texans had been "dancing around", trying to get Bush's value down, expects Texans to draft Bush...

And also stated they should come to full agreement by next Friday...UUGGGHHHHH, i don't want to wait till next Friday....

"But league sources said Friday night that, while there has been dialogue with Williams' agent, Houston has not made a contract proposal."

I thought this was a big quote from the article. Now the Texans have exchanged numbers with Reggie and haven't exchanged numbers with Mario's agent I firmly believe the Texans are going to draft Bush and I'm pumped up!!!! :superman:

Short of one of them getting in a car accident or busted for a felony before the draft, zero.

However, Bush +Tamba Hali (2nd best DE in draft class) might happen.

I agree. There's a marketing prestige that Reggie's camp is hoping to capture by being the #1 pick, along with him having to take a pay cut by dropping to #2-3.....

Bush, Texans try to hash out a deal
Team negotiator, USC star's agent exchange ideas

By JOHN MCCLAIN
Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle

One week before the NFL draft, the Texans intensified negotiations with running back Reggie Bush in an attempt to get the Heisman Trophy winner from Southern California signed in time to make him the first overall pick.

Vice president of football administration Dan Ferens, who handles negotiations, exchanged contract proposals with agent Joel Segal. There are expected to continue negotiations as the Texans try to sign Bush before the draft.

Although no one in the organization will admit it publicly, owner Bob McNair prefers the top pick to be signed by the time commissioner Paul Tagliabue announces the Texans' selection at 11 a.m. on April 29.

Neither side would comment Friday on the negotiations.

The primary issue will be guaranteed money. Quarterback Alex Smith, taken first by San Francisco last year, received $24 million in guaranteed money. Segal is expected to argue that Bush deserves more because players almost always get an increase from the previous year.

How much more could be a sticking point. The Texans, known for overpaying players, will argue that Bush is a running back and doesn't deserve a huge increase over what a quarterback was paid the previous year.

The Texans also are interested in North Carolina State defensive end Mario Williams. He's the best defensive player in the draft. Ferens has been in contact with Ben Dogra, who represents Williams:drool:

Interesting read. Sound like due diligence to me. But it is good to see them talking to these two guys, maybe letting Bush know he has serious competition will get his price down a bit. Although it seems we will draft Bush, maybe the staff is hoping for to trade down a spot or two to grab Mario, or maybe the like him enough to pick him #1. I can't wait to all this unfolds this weekend.
