Does anyone else get tired of John McClain and his rooting for the Titans? They left town! Get over them! He was here in town when Carl Mauck was here and Carl would have said, "If you want to be a fan of theirs leave town". His newest deal is rooting for the Titans to pick Vince Young.....WHY? Does he really want the Texans to have to deal with Vince twice a year? That's my worst nightmare. I would rather have Vince to go to Dallas than the Titans! At least if he went to Dallas, we would only have to face him every 4 years (and probably only two or three times in his career).

Hey McClain, if you want to pull for the Titans, take your fat butt up to Hillbilly Holler!

He's in the media ...... Young in Tennessee gives him a lot to write/talk/pontificate about .... Leinhart in Tennessee isn't quite the same ....

"Pontificate" ... good word.

I don't think Young will go to TN.

I personally believe that it depends on if someone trades up with the Saints to take Leinart. If Reggie & Leinart are off the board 1- 2, I think Vince could be a Titan. Would prefer to see him go to the Jets or the Packers.

True, I could see that being the case. Supposedly the Saints really like Williams, but I haven't heard hard evidence of that yet.

I would like for him to end up in Green Bay. Supposedly Ted Thompson the GB GM is very high on Vince.
With the Favre situation & apparently, Aaron Rodgers isn't as good as they hoped, it wouldn't at all shock me.

I agree. I think VY will end up in Green Bay or Oakland.

With the Houston links to his team fading, don't think for a minute that Bud will pass up the opportunity to re-seed with Vince. He is probably slobbering all over himself (even more than usual) with all those $$$ visions of Titans 10 jerseys everywhere on the streets of Houston and Austin - in addition to regular sales in the Nashville area for any QB they would take. Would Leinart jersey sales in LA bring in more revenue than VY jerseys in Texas (on top of what they will already sell in Nashville)?

Don't think for a minute that this hasn't crossed his mind. It's one more way for him to stick it to his old foes around here and re-establish a loosening foothold in Bob McNair's home market.

Bud will put Jeff and Floyd in a bit of a tough position by forcing this decision. The pressure on the coaching staff to win now is apparent, but Vince may not ripen for two or three years - after which I think he will be an even better version of #9. However, Fisher and Reese (Fisher for sure) may not last through one or two more 5-11 / 6-10 seasons.

This is a classic Bud setup. Now that he's calling the shots again, the only thing more certain than death 'n taxes is him dictating the choice of VY at 3 - and not purely for football reasons.

I always thought McLain should have moved to Tenn with the Oilers. Maybe he'll move to where ever VY is drafted. Green Bay would be good.

ESPN reported this morning that they speculate Tennessee will cut Steve McNair loose and draft a qb. They also said to look for him to end up in Baltimore.

Would prefer to see him go to the Jets or the Packers. Another possibility: if Bush & Leinart are off the board, the Titans might be receptive to a trade down, pick up someone like Omar Jacobs later on and stockpile some extra picks. They could stay where they are and take Williams or Ferguson. They have a proven capable QB on their roster in Billy Volek and the time may be now to play him or lose him. I'm sure Chow would love Leinart, but if he's gone (like say, to the Jets through a trade with the Saints) I think the door's blown wide open and there's no telling what they'll do.

Vince to the Packers would be a hoot but his best fit may be with the Cardinals.

Bud said two weeks ago that they were taking a QB - and I don't think it was a leverage deal against McNair. Not a stretch by ESPN.

"We ought to get a pretty good quarterback out of this draft,'' (Bud) Adams said at the NFL owners meetings in Orlando, Fla. "Drafting No. 3, we ought to get a pretty good quarterback in that spot right there. … I hope we get a guy who can be our leader for about 10 years. It's time for that, I think.''

Not sure I would call Volek a proven capable QB either. How many games has he played in?

yep, this is probably the crux of the matter. McClain is self-serving, so this would be the best scenario for his career.

Interesting conspiracy theory. I am not as well acquainted with Bud as are some of the more veteran members on this board (I am only 25, and lived in Europe throughout my high school years and went to college in east Texas) ... but I admit that though seemingly far fetched, this seems to carry some weight. Either way, an interesting thought.

If McClain wanted to be self-serving about his Houston career, he should get over to Reliant and check out how the line-ups have been juggled so far. He could get some buzz.

This will be an interesting situation for the Budster.

IIRC, the Dud never had a PR guy until he went to TN and got in trouble with the natives some various stuff he was doing and saying--such as saying they were gonna get to name the team, but trying to suggest that they be the Tennessee Oilers before people freaked. (Don't have a link for that, just something I remember reading in the Chronic back in the day and thinking, well Bud, maybe you should had one of them PR types before being an idiot in the way you tried to get a new stadium).

OK, so Dud is already on some Titanhick fan's ****list for the manner in which Steve McNair was told on site not to show up for off-season prep. McNair, by most accounts, is Mr. Community service and not long removed from his MVP and even in his down seasons looks pretty good.

I wonder if Dud forces a VY grab against what the coaches want, not taking Chow's guy Leinart and the local guy Cutler, I wonder if the fans will just see this as that ill-dressed, ill-mannered, ill-coifed Houston interloping buffoon trying to Texify their team more and get mad about it. (I am guessing their choice might end up getting gossipy and ugly if they aren't careful).

One way or another, I would prefer to see VY with the Jets or Green Bay--really anybody but TN or Dallas.

I like John McClain. Don't always agree with him or some of the gratuitous potshots he takes for a cheap joke, but usually I enjoy listening and reading his columns more than most.

This morning on 610, he did take some big time swipes at the Titans organization with some of the things Bud does and the way they handle press.

Billy Volek = Cody Carlson. Quality back up player but once teams catch up to him he doesn't have enough skill to get the job done. Carlson coudn't replace Moon and Volek would fail replacing McNair imo.

Things haven't been good up there since they let Jeff Diamond go and Bud took over presidential duty. The more he's involved, the more hosed it will get. That's been a constant - along with the speed of light - since Einstein was a pup.

Billy Volek = Cody Carlson. Quality back up player but once teams catch up to him he doesn't have enough skill to get the job done. Carlson coudn't replace Moon and Volek would fail replacing McNair imo. You know how much I value your opinion, but Volek has filled in for an injured McNair before, and performed well. In relief of McNair he has a 492-yard passing game on his resume and a 426-yarder to back it up. He could start for a few teams.

Also, I'm not the only person considering the possibility of him starting for the Titans.
If the relationship between the Titans and Steve McNair (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/3114/) continues to go south, chances are Billy Volek (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5339/) will be the team's Week 1 starter.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=insidedishvolekcouldgeth&prov=tsn&type=lgns

There are doubts, but according to this yahoo, they are not related to his skills so much as his durability. A familiar scenario for a Titans QB.

The team is more comfortable with Volek as a backup than as the starter and wonders whether he can remain healthy and consistent over a whole season. But the Titans also know he can make plays. The coaches are familiar with his strengths and weaknesses and have a feel for how to use him.
Anyway, I just threw this out because it is a possibility. Just like the Texans drafting Mario Williams #1 overall is a possibility. Just not a very likely one.
