View Full Version : What Number Should Reggie Wear?

I seem to remember this question getting brought up somewhere on the forum but it never really got officially adressed.

So. what should it be? Personally i am leaning toward something in the twenties b/c numbers in the 40's just seem like the belong to bigger backs or FBs. So that leaves the 20's and 30's. I heard the idea of taking #34 from morency to keep the tradition of great 34's going and that doesn't sound too bad. Then again we could go smaller and say 22 or 25. 22 for Emmit (my pick) or 25 b/c he wore 5 in college. There is also 35 and that would be acceptable as well.

The decision is yours.....well at least untill he actually decides....and even if we draft him....either way i want your opinions, so bring them on.

I'd like him to pick a number that isn't very popular. That way it can be the next big number. Like when Jordan decided on 23.

I figure since WRs can take non 80s numbers, then running backs can too, and with the contract he's gonna get I don't think he'll have any qualms about coughing up the extra dough for #5. He's had it since highschool and wrecked in it ever since, why stop now? Besides, scat backs look better in small numbers...

A WR can take 10-19 and 80-89 numbers. That is because there are many retired numbers.

Besides, scat backs look better in small numbers...

I agree with you there. If he could wear 5 I would like to see him wear that.

He'd have the same # as Ladanian Tomlinson. That would be a good way to show honor to the person that helped him to elevate his game to the next level this past college season. Plus their running styles are very similar to each other soidonno:

He should try and get #5, been his number since HS. If he can't pull this off, 34 would be nice since all 34's in the history of Houston sports have been great players.

How would that work out?I may not have this right but I think Keyshawn Johnson asked for an exemption when he wore 19 before the rule change (someone will chime in and correct this if not). Something similar may happen here is the implication. I'd like to see him in 5 as well since it will be pretty unique for Houston like the 34. Bagwell and Bush. They may have to list him as a WR to do it...donno.

EXACTLY what I was going to put. I saw a feature on Tomlinson and Bush having working out together in 2005 and they were comparing the two out of college. With LT playing in San Diego, and Bush from San Diego, they apparently became quick friends during these days of working out. Bush apparently admires LT and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he came out with #21!!!

As long as the jersey says TEXANS, I could care less about the rest.

I'd love to see him keep #5. Unforutnately, this is the same league that fines players for having their socks 1 inch too low. I can't see them altering the rule of the jersey numbering system. 21 would be cool though. Like people have been saying, Tomlinson was 5 in college and is 21 in the nfl. Not a bad pattern to follow.

You Mad:mad: that Vince Young is not coming here perhaps?idonno:

No, not at all. I am a Vince fan but it hasn't nothing to do with being a Texan fan and paying for my season tickets. Being a fan of both is not mutually exclusive for me.

Actually, I like seeing Vince going to another team as a good thing for me because I will now have two teams in the NFL to root for instead of just one.

Personally, I could care less if NBA players wear tights and what number Reggie Bush has, or any player for that matter.

Hopefully, that makes sense. It is of zero importance to me and just putting that thought out there.

Furthermore, the number becomes cool because of what the player does, not the other way around. So, what ever number he has, if he plays up the hype, I am sure it will be totally cool number and people will be excited about the jersey.

ArlingtonTexan
04-06-2006, 07:54 PM
Since he is the next Gayle Sayers, he could wear 40, making that ugly number cool.

Like the idea of 34 but Bush will make his own history. We have enough great 34s.

If there was any prospect who could convince the NFL to give them an exemption and wear a different number it would be Reggie Bush.

But I don't think they will let him so I think...

21 (LT is his close friend and mentor)
28 (Reggie grew up watching Marshall Faulk at SDSU)
25 (If 5 is his number this is the lowest 5)

I would like him to wear 5 though. I really don't understand why the NFL has to say which numbers they can wear and which numbers they can't.

-.245 career playoff BA, including a career low .148 and .176 in my first two appearances in the playoffs.
-.433 career playoff on base percentage.
-has played in one World Series with current team.
-my team lost the first five playoff series during my tenure there.

who am i?

after you figure it out, you'll why players can be considered great despite misfortunes in the playoffs. jeff bagwell and craig biggio are 1 and 1a in my opinion as the greatest astros of all time. bagwell belongs in the same breath of all-time houston greats with hakeem, earl, and carl lewis. i also guess you forget about the two HR's that he hit in the 2004 NLDS that helped the astros to win their first ever playoff series.

if reggie bush has (football wise) the same kind of career jeff bagwell has had, then Houston will be very lucky.

I think I am personally sold on #28 or #21. If he elects something like #25, it will remind me too much of Hollings. But, if you look at the marketing side of things, there aren't too many players in the league with #25, and he and his marketing team may elect something different. Whatever it is, I hope they sign him before draft day, so I can get my jersey made before training camp and go to sleep with it under my pillow.....lol:redtowel:

I swear the NFL and their rules drive me crazy. I don't see what the big deal is in a jersey number. As long as they do what they are supposed to do and have their shirt tucked in the number should matter not.

Favorite #25, then #26, or #22, how bout #21? He could do #32...3+2=5. The best is #25 because no other big name rb's wear it and he can put #25 on the map!:twocents:

I think he should be in 21 or 35. But hey I'm not the biggest RB fan atm so even if we do draft him, as long as we win through his help, I don't mind what # he has on his back...

while outpassing Leinart (another bogus Heismanner)

Last I checked, 365 yds on 29 completions and a 152 QB rating beat 267 yds on 30 completions and a 131 QB rating. There are plenty of reasons to love VY without making things up.

Welcome to the MB.
