The Minnesota Vikings' offense may suffer a serious blow.

FOX Sports has learned that the Vikings have been informed by the league office that second-year phenom running back Onterrio Smith is facing a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy.

Smith, who was slated to contribute heavily to the Vikings offensive attack this season, will not be officially suspended until after he appeals the four-game ban.

Smith had first-round talent on many teams' draft boards a year ago, but he slipped due to off-field concerns. It is believed he incurred two strikes against him on the league's drug policy this year, which would support the ban.

Last year as a rookie, Smith produced a solid 5.4-yard-per-rush average on 107 carries. He finished with 579 yards and five touchdowns in a rotation used in the absence of the injured Michael Bennett.

Some teams draft these guys with off field problems, who tumble down draft boards (Onterrio Smith, Derek Ross, Antonio Bryant and others) and then they strut around saying they had a great draft, like they uncovered some diamond in the rough. Amazing.

This makes him a 3-time loser in one year already. You can't get a 4 game suspension for one or two failed tests. This guy is one of the dumbest players in the NFL. He slid to the second day in the draft and he had first day talent. You would think that woke him up a bit (losing a million dollars).

I'm glad we passed on this Einstein.

This guy proclaimed himself S.O.D. (steal of the draft) last year. He should update that to S.A.H. (stupid a** hole). Good lord hundsreds of thousands on the line, not to mention future millions and you risk it for partying ang getting high? what a moron. W.A.M.

Next thing you know he'll announce his retirement so he can spend some time hanging out with Ricky.
