If I'm reading the tea leaves, (1) We re-signed Carr, so we're not drafting Vince Young, (2) I think we're not drafting 'Brick...we went out and got a solid center and will probably rely on our current roster of linemen, (3) We signed two defensive linemen and retained everyone but Walker...so I don't think we're drafting Mario Williams, (4) We picked up a run stuffing middle linebacker in Cowart, so I don't think we're drafting AJ Hawk, and (5) We signed a FB to couple with Norris. Wells is hungry for more money or a chance with another team, Hollings was cut, Domanick Davis is injury-prone, and Morency is still raw. Kubiak likes a strong trio of RBs in the Denver system.

My conclusion is that we are drafting Reggie Bush as the moves we made signal to me (at least in my opinion) that we are patching together some positions with free agents and it would not make sense to log jam those positions by drafting an extra LB, DL, OLs and/or QB with our top pick.

He is definelty an option at #1.

I hate to agree with you, but i do. the writing on the wall is defineately pointing towards Reggie with no. 1. I am glad, however, that we have been able to do so much with the FA and no rely on one "superman" from the draft to save us.

You can't get more obvious than that in my opinion.

Of course there is still the possibility of trading down, so I don't think this choice is as obvious as it looks.

If we grab Moulds the only glaring weakness I can see is a CB, which begs the question, why hasn't anyone been talking about Phillip Buchanon? He's still with the team correct? :stirpot:

Pretty much my assessment, too. I think Cowart, Weaver, and Flanagan are being brought in with the intention to start, them, and that fills a good couple of holes. IMO, Reggie is definitely the number 1 pick. I am curious what, if anything, we will do about the CB/Safety positions. Receivers were killing us last year.

But yeah, I see Reggie coming in, which makes me wonder about the long-term committment to DD.

Little question left in my mind - It's Bush all the way at #1 unless someone comes up wit ha super draft-day deal and kicks in an extra pick over the point value to get the #1 from us as we would be loosing a ton of value by trading down - granted the Additional picks would be nice, but we would be giving up the chance to get another franchise player for the team and solidify the running game for many years to come which in Kubiaks offense is going to be a big thing. Not that his system cant do well with good and avg talent, but it really excells with a franchise talent in the driver seat.

I think we're seeing a head coach that thinks his staff can re-coach the offensive linemen, as well as the QB, and he's added a quality TE and a possession-type receiver.

He knows he can pick up decent players at other positions with the next few picks after the No. 1 overall and thus get potentially the most electrifying player to play organized football.

McNair is smart. McNair and the others wanted Bush (went so far as to even assure coach Carroll that Bush WOULD be the number 1 pick) , so they retained Casserly because they know he's a coach's GM...which helped draw Kubiak to our team...and Kubiak likes a loaded backfield...and thus we have a very unified front with McNair, Casserly, and Kubiak all on the same page about who they're picking No. 1.

Maybe that's too simple in a complicated NFL...but I just don't think our team is one of those teams that does not play a lot of head games.

While the Bush pick has to be the odds-on favorite at this point, he's
not a foregone conclusion as long as the chance of the Texans trading the
pick is an option, and I think it is. Most feel that the best opportunity for a
trade will be the week or the final days leading up to the Draft, and the Draft is still a full month away.

I would see us trading down ONLY to get 'Brick and load up on another draft pick.

I am hoping we use our next few picks on the BPA at the CB or Safety position because we were most definitely getting torched. I think Buchanon will be here as a situational guy like they had him toward the end of the year...an extra backer who doesn't field the full pressure of shutting down a WR by himself but rather is a "roamer" who can be utilized like Palomaulo of the Steelers. Buchanon has the speed to rush the QB and the focus to roam in the backfield and help another DB cover a WR at the last second.

John McLaine was just on 610 & he said there was "No Way the Texans will draft Mario Williams." He was quite adamant that it will be Reggie.

Poor John, he's going to miss his VY:crying:

I agree with your FA assessment though I would hesitate to endorse your conclusion. I too agree that we are likely drafting Bush, but it certainly would not be the first time in this team's short history that we have loaded up at one particular position through a combination of draft/FA, even loaded up at positions that the majority of us fans thought we were more than set at.

I think it still depends on whether or not we can score that killer trade deal. If not, then Bush is 95% the choice. If we can, it will make things interesting ...

So you have 3 backs with one that has some injury issues and one who can see a number of snaps lined up in the slot. It's not exactly the overkill you make it out to be. If the FO feels that Bush is that good, why pass on him because you have a somewhat above average player already there?

Precisely my argument for Mario Williams :)

3 backs (assuming we cut Wells, which looks likely) it pretty much par for the course in the NFL. Depth chart = Bush -> Davis -> Morency. As well as the Bush crowd has pointed out, Reggie can easily fit at slot WR or come out of the backfield. Not really overkill in any sense.

I agree, it looks like we will use the #1 overall to pick up a rare talent.

Does anyone know if we had representatives at either Mario Williams Or Ferguson's Pro Day Workout?

One rep at Williams, no clue about Ferguson. Buddy at NCST gave me the headsup on that one.

Remember, there are about 7 other draftable prospects at NC State. The Texans wouldn't necessarily have focused on Mario.

That had to be difficult for McClain to say. Did he breakdown in tears afterward?

I know his pro day is April 2nd (This Sunday !). As far as his workout with the Texans, I would imagine it would be a day or two after that. But that's just a guess.

Can't wait to see him run the 40:superman:

Did I mention I LOVE the NFL Network ?

I just hope they don't cover mostly Lienart on Pro Day. I know he is the highest rated QB in the draft & he deserves some coverage, but as a Texans fan I want to see mostly Reggie stuff at Pro Day.
