Texans canceled the visit, but we will meet with some other FA's instead...

What a bunch of fool's. No doubt about it now, Charley C. is runnning the show!

John indicated earlier that it was unlikely as their was a big war going on between Seattle and the Vikings and a lot of money was going to be on the line. We just weren't going to be in the running at this point.

OK, so! We are going to have to fight and scrap with the other teams and get some guys in here! But the thought of loosing that 3rd rounder does kinda suck?

Its a money thing. Like we have to keep a certain amount for the Draftees, particularly the high ones, and we don't have much reserve. We wanted him, but not for an arm and a leg. We will have to find someone else to fill a need if there is one. They may be looking at the new signing from Cincy to go along with Mathis, Armstrong and Starling and saying we don't need to spend an outrageous amount when we don't have to. We are not in that bad of shape. We will be very young with a lot of speed. I like what we already have.

Yeah actually it does. That's why they cancelled the visit which makes sense to me. For crying out loud man we're talking about Nate Burleson here not Chad Johnson or Anquan Boldin. He would have been a nice addition but it's not like adding him would have turned us into an 8-10 win team all by himself.

I don't get some of you people. Casserly's an ***** because he overpays but when he cancels a visit from a player he's positive that he'll have to overpay then that also makes him an *****?

There are plenty of things to get on Charlie Casserly about if you're so inclined. This isn't one of them.

Damn'd if he does, damn'd if he doesn't.

Nice opportunity for fresh complaints though.

It's easy to blame someone when you are not quite sure what he/she is up to. The Casserly haters around here will find SOMETHING to blame him for, damned if you do, damned if you don't :)

This is no surprise. I figured he was headed to Seattle anyway. It's better than getting into a bidding war we can't afford.

Do we know that this person who is criticizing Casserly for a "non move" is also a member of the "I hate Casserly for overpaying" crowd? Or is the reference to "you people" just thrown out there to the board in general, for anyone who has ever criticized Casserly for anything regardless of who said it and for what reason?

Everyone knows I'm not a Casserly fan but for some reason I feel that I'm being lumped into the pile-on above since I guess 'I damn him if he does or doesn't.' If you read my posts, you will know that's BS. I will criticize what I think is an overpay (like Gary Walker when it happened, and most recently Weaver), but I will concur with what I think are good signings (like Walter).

What I'm asking is for people to look at what individual posters post on multiple issues, and not lump one Casserly critic (for whatever reason) who comes out of the woodwork with the rest of "you people." Otherwise it makes your criticisms just as broad and off-base as those you intend to criticize, and it dooms legit criticism into the "don't mind him - he's just another hater" pile.

Points well taken and agreed. If they would have said the The Texans signed Nate Burleson for 4 yrs 16 million with a 7 million dollar sign in bonus and gave an early (either the first or second) 3rd rounder, people would be screaming to fire everyone including the newly hired Kubiak. Burleson wasn't going to be the savor. A good addition, yes. Savor, no. The Texans are going to be better next year since they really couldn't get much worse. Burleson wants Money and to be on a winning team and even though the Texans will be alot better IMO, they won't be a play off team.

I think that this is a good thing. Teams are built through the draft with finishing touches from FA. I don't want the Texans to be like the Redskins. I know that some positions are filled by FA's, but most should be draft picks.

Would have been nice to have him at the right price. I really would have liked him here as I have seen plenty of Vikings games tha least two years. At the same time we are already spending a lot of money on the offense and I have no problem with them passing on him. I am back to Bush being drafted #1 with this news, dern.

Is your conscience bothering you this morning, aj? (;) sorry, I couldn't resist. :D)

There is a 'very substantial' group of posters on this board who are still unable to get over it that CC is still the GM. That's just a plain fact. And therefore, they can expect to get lumped into the "damned if he does, damned if doesn't" group. And if you get lumped into that one, then you're also going to get lumped into the "don't mind him, he's just another hater" pile.

So, for 'you people' who are getting sensitive about whether or not your criticisms of CC are bring viewed objectively, just take a look back at much you do criticize CC, and how much you praise him, and look at the percentages, and you'll see why some might put you into a 'group'.

aj, if you'll remember, your avatar used to have CC's picture with a gunsight on it. (I even made it my avatar at one point)

I think some people want to overpay players (free agents) and then they expect too much and eventually hate the GM for overpaying the players they wanted to overpay in the first place. "You people" know who you are. :tomato:

It is frustrating though. We could really use someone like him at the right price.

Well said Marcus. Sometimes those who shout the loudest about being a
victum of stereotyping are the ones who most deserve the tag.
I can find plenty of fault with Casserly, Carr, etc. but look upon this season as a new start with Kubiak and Co. and want to give them the benefit of the doubt. Plenty of time to be criticle if they don't turn this thing around.

I was really adament about wanting Burleson, but maybe not puting all the money towards him wouldn't be such a hot idea.

I'm less concerned about the money than I am about a HIGH 3rd round draft pick. But then, Burleson is a prove NFL commodity. What have we done in the 3rd round with Charley at the helm?

i wouldn't worry about this too much...if they cancelled the visit due to the fact that he was simply going to be too expensive then fine...i think we can all understand that...plus with the two first picks in the 3rd round we'll be able to pick-up some quality guys...if we get hillard or price or moulds or maybe another name will come up after june 1st i think we'll be fine

I wanted Burleson, but he was going to be way too expensive. I was hoping we could get him for less than Givens' contract, but I think he may get just as much or more than that. I'm hopeful about Hilliard though. He would be a proven #2 reciever. He's not as good as Burleson, but he's better than Gaffney and Bradford were. As for signing Eric Moulds, I'm almost positive that won't happen. He's going to get a huge contract wherever he goes and that's because he's still the #1 guy. Hilliard or Price I wouldn't mind. Moulds is a pipe dream.

Interesting that Shanny is more involved than one would think with the signing of Cook and Hilliard coming in.

Your right!.........It is very deep and we could get a starter out of that 3rd.

Eric Moulds?:spy:

But it's now looking like we will be taking a WR in the second or third round. So you still in up using a draft pick, and you get an unestablished rookie instead of Burelson.

....

CC got praise from me for Walters. He will get praise for Putz if he lands him. He also got praise from me in last year's draft for Mathis and Morency. He got praise the year before for the Dunta pick which wasn't a totally done deal before it happened. I'm sure he got praise from me for drafting Domanick Davis.

He got harsh criticism from me for Walker, Wade, Riley, Hollings, Buchanon, and Babin (which earned him the satirical gunsight and now the satirical straightjacket and muzzle). He got moderate criticism from me on what I think was an overpay on Weaver. Yes, I'm aware of Ferens and the coaches role.

So like I said, the dammed if you do - dammed if you don't stuff really doesn't fit but lump me in any group you want or call me a hater or whatever - because I really don't care. I was simply trying to point out the inaccuracy in generalizations that sometimes fly around here - just like if you say anything bad about Carr, all of a sudden you're a Carr hater, or if you say you like Vince better than David - that must mean you have orange blood.

As far as I'm concerned, CC has earned more criticism than he deserves respect over the past four years. So shoot me. I'm not in the trust everything Texans camp and never have been. I spend too much emotion, not to mention $$$ on this passion of mine to keep my mouth shut on things that I hold a strong opinion. CC's not a good GM and I would be very surprised and unhappy if he's here next year. .... and I'll be in my seat cheering my *** off come September hoping my team does well - just like I have for the last 220 or something NFL games that have been held here in Houston.

Forget Burleson, hes not worth the pick or $$. Lets look at Ike Hilliard. He's a guy with decent hands and speed and I think he would be another good addition. Maybe not the #2 were looking for but he could sure fit if needed. I like the fact that were looking at TE's and MLB's but another FB? Comeon!
