So, with the signing of Drew Brees to a 6-year deal...this definitley throws all the draft mocks of with Leinhart projected to go #2.

So what's your guess of the Saints picking if they stay in the second draft position?

I'm going with: Williams

wonder what the Raiders are doing in all of this. I'm sure they are hoping somebody will drop to them. I think there is a real chance Vince Young could fall to them. I wouldnt count on it if I were them, but it seems like this makes them think their shot at getting a QB is much better.

I think they trade down or make a surprise pick although I could also see them taking D'Brick to help protect their new $60 million man. The case can be made for Mario Williams as well since Darren Howard left. The studs in this draft I would want are Bush, Williams or Vernon Davis.

Len Pasquarelli still thinks that the Saints may draft a qb given the way the Brees contract is structured.

They will still draft Leinert or Young.

The Saints are blowing smoke about drafting a QB to pump up the pick. I think they'd like to trade down, but still pick up Ferguson, Davis, or Hawk. Now that the vet QB pieces are in place, it seems that the Titans, Jets, and Raiders are the teams that would most likely look at QB in the top 10.

Maybe one team falls in love with one of the top 3 QBs and makes the Saints an offer. Or maybe the Titans would be happy with Leinart or Young, the Jets happy with Leinart or Cutler, and the Raiders happy with the scraps. It's no slam dunk the Saints will be able to trade this pick.

The draft will lay out like this for one through three:
1. Reggie Bush - Texans
2. Mario Williams - New Orleans
3. Matt Leinart - Titans

The big question is if the Jets are successful in getting Ramsey from the Redskins. If that happens, I can see them trading down for more picks for someone interested in getting Young or Hawk. Green Bay really wants Hawk at #5, the Jets are set at linebacker, so if Green Bay feels they need to trade up to make sure they get him, I can see that. If the Jets don't get Ramsey, I see them drafting Young at #4.

That's my opinion, anyways.

No way. Adding Brees just nixed that totally.

John Clayton said this morning on Mike & Mike that if NO signed Brees their likely draft target would be Mario Williams, FWIW

IMO they prefer to trade down but I voted D'Brick because I don't think they get what they want and have to use the pick. I don't think they go Mario because they still have Charles Grant and Will Smith at DE. Grant had a down year but I think he is still solid and Smith is a young stud.

They're probaly going to trade down and try to pick up probaly Vernon davis

I say that they pick D'Brick. They are pretty set at DE. With Ferguson and Brown as the two tackles, they would have a pretty good line to block for Brees and McAlister.

The Saints now have a decent line, a very good set of WR's, a pro-bowl calliber running back and a pro-bowl QB. What is missing in this you ask? Why, a defense. Its Mario all the way.

They'll get Mario W. at #4. The more I think about this, I more that I think that the Jets will get desperate and move up to #2 to get M. Leinart so that the Titans don't pick him at #3.

Right now the draft depends on if the Redskins give up Ramsey to the Jets for a 7th rounder. I doubt it and they will likely end up doing it for a sixth though. That will make the guys at the top of the draft other than Mario, Reggie, and D'brick lose a little steam. The top end of the draft is usually for QBs but with so much movement other teams will be looking for the jump. The thought is this if we can get the Jets to think we have someone willing to trade up and get Leinhart we may be able to entice a trade, eventhough it would likely still mean we lose out on Mario Williams. Damn it move Weaver to 1gap DT and just take Mario number 1 it will be worth it.

Williams

Reasons:
1. They just lost Darren Howard to Philly.
2. He's worthy of the #2 pick.
3. They need a playmaker on defense in a bad way.
4. See #1-#3.

Or they trade down.

Darren Howard is #2 on their depth chart at right De..... I think they can live with out him.

If I were the Saints, I'd take the other Williams guy............ D'Angelo. Duece is Injury prone...... can't count on him to make the season.

It seems like the best players will be picked but the players the top 4 teams can use are projected to go 5th-10th.

The saints will trade down now any calls of moving up go to the Saints unless the texans take Matt ********* and hold him for randsome the saints will most likely trade down for a defense player Hawk and extra picks comes to mind with their weak LB Corps boy they really did a good one on us. i say we hold Lion heart for randsome we need to get some value out of our pick.

brees is still a big iff because of his shoulder injury. NO isn't sure if their QB position is solidified yet, so you never know if they take young or leinart just in case

Brees just signed a 6 year - 60 million dollar deal & you think the Saints are unsure of who their #1 QB is? You rock man. Rock on

yea they are pretty stupid to give 6years 60mil and a 10mil signing bonus to a Qb that's too hurt to throw a ball. thbrees ere's still a chance that brees isn't the same

There is an option in the contract after year 1. The Saints can choose not to pick it up and let Brees go.

They should jus' give us their #2, after all they were desperate enough to pay that kinda $$$ for a guy coming off surgery (it's different to Daunte, he didnt hurt his shoulder after all)...

The ripple effect of Brees and Culpepper

By Pat Kirwan
NFL.com Senior Analyst

(March 14, 2006) -- The quarterback carousel took a major shot in the arm with Daunte Culpepper heading to the Dolphins and Drew Brees changing his address to New Orleans. There will be a lot of ripples from these two decisions, so let's go through a few of the possibilities and probabilities.

A Norm Chow and Matt Leinart reunion is now a realisitic possibility in Tennessee.
The first thing that comes to mind is the value of the second pick in the draft for the New Orleans Saints. They can entertain calls from the teams that want Matt Leinart. The Titans would love to have a shot at the former USC quarterback, especially since offensive coordinator Norm Chow coached him to a Heisman Trophy two years ago. Tennessee can't afford to sit pat at No. 3 and expect Leinart to fall to them. They can't take that risk. The Jets could easily make the move from the fourth spot to No. 2 and grab Leinart. Now that would excite the Jet fans. If New Orleans could move down and still be guaranteed DE Mario Williams and draft compensation, they are on the road to recovery.

As for the Vikings, they now have draft pick Nos. 17, 48 and 51. The Dolphins could easily pass on QB Jay Cutler at the No. 16 pick, and then Cutler would be available for the Vikings. New head coach Brad Childress also has the firepower in those draft picks to move up in the draft if he wants to go for someone else.

The Jets could turn around and offer DE John Abraham to the Saints to move up into the second spot, and the Saints could turn around at the fourth spot and grab OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson.

The truth is the last two acquisitions by Miami and New Orleans, and the fact that Jon Kitna signed on with the Lions, changes everything for Cutler, Leinart and Vince Young.

the draft is all fudged up now.....throw your mocks out the window

Saints | Brees' signing would not discourage Leinart from coming
Wed, 15 Mar 2006 12:42:44 -0800

Jimmy Smith, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports Southern California QB Matt Leinart's agent, Leigh Steinberg, said the New Orleans Saints' signing of QB Drew Brees will not deter his client from coming to New Orleans if the team selects him with the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft. "From Matt's perspective, we have always assumed there would be a veteran starter with any franchise that drafted him," Steinberg said, "and (assumed) he would not be the immediate starter, wherever he would go, and spending some time learning has proven to be advantageous for a number of the best quarterbacks in football."

Hmm....smokescreen?
