When our new coach was signed with the addition signing of Mike Sherman, I was a Texan who was happy.. I was looking at what we could pick up in free agency and looking at a first pick on the draft (still hoping for a trade down, btw). Woot... we are going to have a decent team this year... Bounce.. :texflag:

Ummm seeing the signing today, Sage, a backup QB to a high price for him, and Mr. Weaver, to a horrible high signing bonus. :challenge Less we forget a 3rd string FB Jemeel Cook :brickwall , and this makes we start to wonder if I have bought enough bourbon for next year to kill the pain.

Keeping the faith as much as I can.. but someone please help me understand of what we are thinking.. Oh... I really like the idea of us signing.. oh , I dont know,... maybe a OLINE!!!! Come on coaches... fill NEEDED POSITIONS PLEASE..

Rosenthal will be a backup QB, which is a need and Weaver will be a starting strongside defensive end.. which is also a need. This has been said over and over again but usually loosing teams have a tough time bringing in the big time free agents. Weaver is a very productive DE and has a lot of potential to grow. Hopefully our new coaching staff will help Weaver exceed his expectations.

Yea Jason Babin had a lot of potential and what has he done? :ok:

In his rookie season he showed that while learning a new position and adjusting to the speed of the NFL he could still bring down some of the best runningbacks in the open field. Last year he struggled out of the gate, due to a shoulder injury but at the end of the year he was putting very good pressure on the QB, especially when he rushed out of a 3 point stance. Plus this will only be his 3rd season, and the first where he will be playing the possition he's played his entire life so lets see what he can do in the 4-3.

Ooooh, you said the "J.B." word!

Remember that it is only day 2 of free agency and there are still lineman out there. I would much rather see them take care of the OL, but I am not going to jump up and down on the panic button, *yet*.

Our problem is still the same. Charley Casserly! Let me count the ways.
First, he give Dave Carr a 8Mil dollar signing bonus, for what? What has Carr done in the last 4 years. I'll tell you, nothing. In fact, he has been the worst QB in the league. That make sense only to CC to reward a guy with a huge bonus who has done nothing for 4 years. Next, he give Weaver a hugh siging bonus. And than he signs Sage. Who in the hell is Sage? Casserly is the same guy who gave us:

1. Dave Carr (the worst QB in the NFL)
2. Jason freaking Babin
3. Phillip Bucannon
4. No tight ends
5. No center, no right tackle, no middle linebacker, no second reciever.

Casserly is worst than MM, the Detriot Lion's genereral manager. How bad does it have to get before Bob McNair wake up?

You are so wrong and definately have proven to be a complete non-football fan. David Carr is not the problem with this team. It has completely been the system they have been running. You will see, mark my words, a huge improvement in David Carr in running the offense. Weaver will help us tremendously in run defense, which is sorely needed.

I'm so sick of these David Carr bashers. It makes me wonder if people even watch the games and have a lick of football since.

I still would love to see one guy signed in FA, that we (on the MB) could be happy about.... all of us. Yeah, it's hard to imagine. But Jonathan Arbraham...... I think we'd all be happy, Bentley, Mawae..... Hutch.... I don't think we should sign a whole team like Arizona did...... but you can imagine how excited they are.

Heck I can't wait to see the newlook Cards take the field.

I agree. Granted it was the St. Louis Swiss Cheese defense, but calling his own plays yielded markedly different results that the 'system' couldn't come close to duplicating in the 2nd half this year.

Let's try to remember that this won't be a 1 year turnaround... this is phase 1 of upgrades... anyone that thinks otherwise didn't watch last season's team as a whole.

I have learned to enjoy such moments as these. It lets me know that last year when we passed up on D.T.(TEXAS) in the draft is not a fluke! Our GM really does not know anything about talent! I hope the Texans pass on Bush, and Vince Young! At least then those two guys can go play for a team that will find supporting talent to enhance their skills!

I'm getting convinced that if the Broncos waived Champ Bailey and he came here people would complain about that as well. Weaver started for one of the better defenses in the league and is well thought of by coaches and scouts alike. This team needs a strongside DE and now they have one. There aren't a lot of options available in free agency and I doubt the team wants to pin their entire line hopes on a rookie DE. You can still add someone like Mario Williams, but they needed a veteran DE.

I know Jameel Cook probably isnt that amazing, because he is a 2nd string FB, you said that he makes differences in games???

I doubt it, because how can a 2nd string FB do better then the 1st string FB

If he did then the bucs would be releasing Mike Alstott instead of Jameel Cook, sooo hmmmm... I guess the bucs think the same way I do when I say this guy wont make much of difference on our Offense you retarded :loser

David Carr calls his own plays, the line can block, and give him time. Capers calls the offensive plays, the line can't block, David has no time. How can you explain this??

Look, I'm not blaming David Carr for our season(2-14)...... But you can't tell me he played well.

Remember a few years back, when Tampa's first two QBs, went down, and they had to stick ShaunKing into the starting line-up?? Remeber that word that became the catch phrase of the year?? Poise?? He had it.

I have been the 'Carr-basher' as you label, for the last 2 years. He doesnt have time, granted. But some of that is his fault, so keep it where it lies. Is he the whole problem, of course not, but review my prior 200 posts on what I feel is wrong with him.

My problem is that Carr still is running for his life and we have only picked him up a FB to help him. We need to focus on the Oline. Does D and other positions need help, yes. But if you like DC, and you want him to at least survive year 2006, we need to protect him. My main problem that we are dropping 12 million signing bonus on DE, 2.5 million sign bonus on backup QB, which what we need to be doing is dropping good bucks on 1 or 2 Line.

I still remember the quote that Carr at the end of the first year. He said we he was asked who they should draft the next year and I quote 'It better be a O-lineman.' he quiped laughing... Funny thing is, Except for Hodge, we still havent

BKIMBLE-Worst Rookie on the board, thats my vote.

I agree. I'm the worst rookie. Look, I'm a native Houstonian, I'd like to see a team that can win some games. Everybody loves a WINNER. The Texan last year was very bad. And I believe that was because of CC. Signing defensive end Weaver means the Texas will not trade down in the first to select North Carolina States' defensive end Mario Williams. Now, that's a big mistake, in my opinion. The Texan don't have anything close to Mr. Williams. This guy is a stud, period. Why do we settle for second best? Why? Why do we put up with DC, when there's a Vince Young avaiable? Mark my words, in 2 years, VY and MW, will be stars in this league and we will still be making excuses about Dave Carr and the systems. I just which the best for our team.

Signing Weaver will not stop them from trading down to pick up Williams. They need 2 DEs. Peek and Babin are players from the previous regime and have no guaranteed spots. If the right deal comes along and Williams is there I doubt for a minute the Texans would pass on him. It would depend on who else is there, of course. It's going to take VY more than 2 years to be a star. Give him 3 and then you can hand him the keys to Canton.

I think the resigning of Alstott was an appreciation move for the guy being a solid football player year after year(remember he is an all-pro) so it is tough to put another player in front of that caliber of player so yes Cook had to settle for being 2nd string. When the Bucs drafted him i doubt they did it to fill a position without thinking he could be a very productive player if Alstott went down. Some of the post on here crack me up,just because a player was 2nd or 3rd string in Happyville,USA,doesn't mean they are not quality players.
Have you looked at some of our 1st string players lately,i would say 1/3 of them wouldn't make another roster in the NFL.We have to correct what the last Staff wrong. And unfortunately that was alot that left alot of holes to fill.So at this point you have to get a better player at X posistion which may not be an All Pro , but a solid player. It takes time, and added we went 2-14 alot of proven players won't even look this way they want to go to a team who is on the verge of a possible Super Bowl trip before they are to old to play.Add all this together and I think you are jumping the gun to critique the players we are getting before they ever dawn the STEEL BLUE & BATTLE RED!:twocents:

And the band plays on... Isn't it amazing? I think this is the one topic I would certainly like to hear Kubiak discuss in some kind of forum. I think it would tell us a lot, because its the 1 question that has haunted the Texans from day 1. Yes, Mr. B was to be the LT, but it didn't happen and we continue to go down the road dreaming his ghost is out there helping our linemen. Like some others I was hoping Wand was a victum of the previous administration, but it looks like they have given up on him. We have lost Brown, but many thought he wasn't much. We have retained McKinney, but I have not had that much confidence in him. Really, the O-line is in sore need of some new blood. Is the draft going to be the source? I can only say this. If we don't solve the O-line problem, we are right back where we started from. That is not a good feeling.

What makes you say that? Did he get cut and I missed it? Is it because McClain wrote a sidebar article christening 60% of our line before we even have a final roster? Excuses or FLAT OUT TRUTH.

If he was as bad as you guys think he is and they think he got a far shake, he would not be here, he would not have signed a 3 yr ext. He would be gone.

If they thought he could not do it there would be NO doubt who we are going to pick.
Guys I just ask to put 2 and 2 togther some times and not make up your own stories in your head.

Dom Capers thought the same thing....... should I take his word also?? Even though Dom didn't think enough of him to call audibles??

Look, YOu're in love with Carr, that's cool. I'm not. I want to draft Vince Young. You don't. It doesn't matter to me, what Kubiak thinks. Or who we will draft. It doesn't change the fact, that I think Drafting Vince Young will be good for the Houston Texans.

NFL scouts, coaches, GMs, and fans have been wrong about QBs before. Couch, Leafe, Weinke, Brooks, Carter, Collins, Delhomme, Favre, Young, etc.. etc...

I think this is another situation, where an NFL Owner, GM, Coach, and whoever else think Carr is an NFL Starting QB, is wrong.

But for the record, I don't think David has gotten a fair shake. But I don't think he performed as well as he should have under the circumstances.

The truth is that teams do not completely revamp player-by-player. If you lend a cynical ear to this board, you are going to come away believing that we should keep AJ, Pitts, and Dunta, and replace everybody else. The reality is that, due to contracts, etc. - we aren't going to replace everybody. It's just not financially feasible. In fact, I would be suprised if you see 1/3 of the players on the field change next year.

Also, what is happening in Houston is a tough change. Tough because average fans won't be able to visualize the changes until the season starts. The Texans are revamping the team, but on the coaching side, and I think that will be a major change. I think that with a renewed emphasis on Offense and a shift in D, we are doing a major retooling without adding lots of fresh faces. (BTW - I think part of the problem last year was lots of new faces on D.)

I like Babin. But I never thought to compare his rookie year to Ware... who is a Monster who plays on the QBs Blindside, where Babin doesn't. But going to a 4-3, is going to ruin his effectiveness. I know he played DE in College, but I don't know if he'd have been drafted as a DE....

Now if he were as mean as Peek.....
