wow, that would be a solid #2 who knows what it takes to win. he has my blessing. but, what kind of figures would we have to throw at him to get him down here?

So who'd you rather have, Bruce or Givens?

I'd rather have Bruce for a year or two. He's old though, we'd need to find a replacement soon. Mathis could be that guy. Signing Bruce to a short contract could give Mathis the time he needs to develop.

I dunno...Givens is good and so is Bruce. It's all about money in my book...and you guys know that teams are going to maybe overpay for Givens, and not so much for Bruce...we'll see though.

The Givens-is-from-the-Houston-area factor may play a role in this.

I think all the above about Bruce is true and good.

But, C'mon another Givens in Houston. That just sounds too good.

I know, our Givins had an I and he has an e but it sounds good.

The whole "from Houston" statement is one im not crazy about...it seems ppl go out of their way to find players that are from Houston to plug into the team thinking that they will become better than what they are, which is a slightly above average #2 WR. I think both would help this team a lot but Id give the edge to Bruce having been a #1 and having won a superbowl...

Lets start with the facts,

Givens is young, Bruce is old.

Bruce's production fell off considerably this year, but Givens has never been of Bruce's caliber.

Cris Carter was very good up until he was 36.

If Bruce can replicate that he's worth signing. If you think David Givens can be a TJ Housh-type performer with a stud #1 receiver, then you sign him. Bruce likely desires a winning situation at this point in his career, or at least someone closer than 2-14. So you'll have to overpay him vs. St. Louis and others. Givens won't be that costly if you are willing to guarantee a little more money up front. He's young, and can afford to help a team rebuild. No good #2 will come cheaply, so I think you base the decision on your assesment of talent.

both guys would be a good fit becuase both are used to winning, and expect it out of their teamates. i think both these guys would push others to their potential and that is worth half of the price to me. but if i had to choose, i'd say bruce. he may be older but his leadership and wisdom is something we need in our young offense. but, either name sounds better than bradford.

i've said this in the nfl part of the forum...but with bruce we would also get a veteran reciever who could mentor these young recievers of ours...teach them how to play the game for years to come...something andre, gaff, and mathis have not had unless you count bradford

plus there is no telling what bruce could do for a carr...carr has never had an experienced reciever like bruce...he could teach carr a lot about QB to WR relations in the NFL

I agree with this. I think Bruce would be a good guy to bring in. People say his #s were down but so were his QBs. The game he played against us showed he can still do something in this league.

CErtainly understand the not being crazy about another Houston player feel - That card can be seriously overplayed at times. IMO - this is not one of those times. They are both good #2 receivers - Givens being younger I think gives him a little bit more of an edge since were looking to partner him with Andre for a few years to come.

For the record I think they have both won superbowls and I think Givens has a few rings - not just one. IMO Bruce would be a good "Now" kind of fix - Givens would be a good "Building for the future" fix.

I think that would give them some leverage in signing Bruce, but the man isn't gonna work for free. Three first round pick salaries (all in the top of the round) plus what Bruce would require seems a bit much to me.

It is a bit much, but they probably want him for the same reasons we would to help teach the younger guys.

Are you asking, or is this fact?? Cause if hes gone, we should sign him and have the best two WRs from the '03 draft. I still think that Rogers has great potential. At the start of his rookie year he was playing better than AJ was, if he could just get over those injuries.

To bad every year after that has been followed by broken collerbones and/or drug suspension. I'd prefer the veteran who has lost step instead of the guy on the sunstance abuse list.

Givens, Patriots, Dynnasty...ring any bells?
The only way I care about the "from Houston" thing is if it means less money, which I'm all for. I dont know how old Givens is, but it would be great to bring him in, the question is, what does this mean for Gaffney.

Also, Bruce is very good in the slot...just an FYI

Good point, he also missed some games with turf toe. By the way, Holt has been the number one in St. Louis for a while. Anyway, two seasons ago, Bruce had 7 straight 100yd games and finished with almost 1300 yds and 90 catches. If we give him the ball, he is going to make plays and move the chains. Either one would be great though, we have no one with a Super Bowl ring, other then Kubes, in the locker room. Time for that to change.

What type of decision could this be for the Texans? If your going to give up on Gaffney, and finally release the well overrated Corey Bradford, why would the Texans entertain bringing in a 33yr old WR, on the downside of his career, at good FA money? Unless it is a move to keep Gaffney, play Bruce as a solid #3, pay less dollars to bring him in, and allow him to help teach the younger Johnson and Gaffney, the deal would make no sense. The Texans are better off signing Givens from NE, a proven winner, hardworking WR, who would be the perfect compliment to Johnson. Fearless and will bring added veteran leadership to an offense that has struggled in the past.:superman:

no you bring in bruce to show these young receivers how to play the game in the nfl and to tutor them along with carr...gaffney can come back...but he hasn't exactly proven that he is a number 2 guy yet...especially with where he was drafted...i think this receiving corp could learn a lot from bruce that's why you bring him in...to be our number 2 guy that carr can count on...may i remind you the play of gaffney running his route...he's wide open and carr throws him the ball..unfortunetly gaffney never thought to look back at carr and the ball hit him in the helment

I'd take TO in a heartbeat as long as his contract is structured that if he gets another one of his "outbursts", he can be cut with no cap hit or penalty.

The guy would make an instant difference.
