Hmmm, they seemed to just pick great players at each position and compare the prospect to that person. There are a whole lot of huge reaches in that list

Do you think that if the players see themselves compared to these players, it goes to thier heads? I know that if i were an athlete, i wouldn't want to read comparisons because i would either a) be disappointed, or b) take it straight to the brain and buy gold chains and spinning rims.

I think its common to project young players with current or past player models that were successful at this level. For instance I see William Fuller in Tamba Hali. Fuller wasn't the tallest or biggest, but he had great explosion and was a great athlete and used leverage well and didn't wear out in the 4th quarter and was a heck of an end. I'm not saying that Hali is going to be as good as Fuller was, but it's a good style comparison.

I kind of agree...i see a lot of derrick brooks in ernie sims....defensive leader, hits hard, makes plays...very quick.

I think there are a few reaches, but I can agree w/ some. If I had to make a few changes, I would say:

QBs
Matt Leinart-David Carr reincarnated (no way he has the poise that Brady does)
Vince Young-Cunningham/Steve McNair II
Jay Cutler-Kerry Collins (very strong arm...way better than Losman)

RB
Reggie Bush-Brian Westbrook style; Marshall Faulk quickness
LenDale White-Eddie George/Larry Johnson

Devin Hester WR/CB-Steve Smith potential

I like the Manny Lawson-Jason Taylor comparison. A lot of people tend to think that Lawson will be too small to play DE in the NFL, but I think outherwise. Jason Taylor is only 255 and he is consitently in the Pro-bowl, and one of the best DEs in the NFL. John Abraham is only 258.
If Lawson can put on ten pounds (which is relatively nothing) he can still be a great NFL DE.

The Pre-Draft Magazines often do it as well. It's funny when they are compared to someone that makes you say to yourself, "Who?"

omar jacobs and philip rivers have basically nothing in common. jacobs' arm is 10 times stronger than the school girl arm on rivers

Santonio Holmes is Steve Smith? Wow I didn't know he was that good. Bush as Faulk huh? I would have got a little more excited if it said Bush as Barry Sanders, but Faulk will do.

I'm with you, Matt may very well be the most NFL ready, but he ain't no Troy Brady..... a Drew Bledsoe maybe.... which ain't bad.

The list is from Scott Wright at NFLDraftCountdown.

I won't comment on it as we're a competitor.

I won't go through every player as I think you have to reach, but I see some similiarities in players this year and those past.

Maurice Drew- Brian Westbrook
Reggie Bush- Marshall Faulk
Mathias Kiwanuka- Jason Taylor
Mario Williams- Julius Peppers
Anthony Fasano- Mark Bavaro
TJ Williams- Alge Crumpler
Claude Wroten- LaRoi Glover
DeAngelo Williams- Carnell Williams
Marcus McNeill- Jonathan Ogden
Tamba Hali- Hugh Douglas
Chris Gocong- Tedy Bruschi

Like I said, I won't make comparisons I have to reach for. All of those are to different extents as some of those comparisons are "poor man's" versions of each other.

I watched Randall Cunningham my entire life and can't say I see the Vince Young comparison. Different players entirely in my opinion.

Well, based on the similarities, I really, really want Anthony Fasano if he is the next Mark Bavaro. That guy rocked!!! (on Tecmo Bowl too!!!)

How come no Dave Thomas?

I think Dave Thomas is like early years of Kyle Brady.

Thomas is more like Chris Cooley. And yeah Bavaro was a stud on Tecmo Bowl.
