Former Vikings head coach Mike Tice has accepted a job with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Tice was in Florida Monday for an interview with Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio.

Tice confirmed Tuesday night that he accepted a job. The exact nature of Tice's job will be announced by Jacksonville later this week.

Speculation was that Tice could be in line for either a position as assistant head coach or as replacement for offensive line coach Paul Boudreau, who has been the offensive line coach for the Jaguars for three years but was fired last week.

Tice has previously said he hopes to remain in a coaching position in the NFL and has mentioned the Jaguars specifically by name, particularly because he has a close friendship with Del Rio.

Tice and Del Rio played together in Minnesota in 1992, '93 and '95, when Tice was a tight end and Del Rio a linebacker. Tice's Vikings beat Del Rio's Jaguars 27-16 in 2004 in the only regular-season meeting between the two coaches. Tice, who had a 32-33 regular-season record in four-plus years as Vikings coach, was fired by new owner Zygi Wilf on Jan. 1 despite a 9-7 season and a 7-2 finish.

Tice also had interviewed two weeks ago for the New York Jets' head coaching position, but former New England defensive coordinator Eric Mangini ended up taking the job.

Tice's son, Nate, will be a senior at Edina High School next fall, making any decision about leaving Minnesota a difficult one.

Wow...I thought he would have taken a year off with everything that happened this year. Well, good for him. I thought he would have been a solid pick-up, but I could understand the hesitancy.

He will fit in perfectly with the Glanville-like circus that Del Rio operates.
