As i watched todays game it something became very apparent to me.

I've always though Jake Plummer to be an okay quarterback but not one of superstar or Elway caliber. Big Ben showed signs from the first time he took an NFL field that he had what it took and did it in 2 years time.

If I look @ Carr I am pretty confident that this guy will never be a superbowl calibur quarterback. When he was a rookie, maybe but 200+ sacks have taken the toll on the soul. Its just not going to happen.

As for Vince, he already a champ, has played and won a national championship game and, if not with the texans, he will be in a Superbowl some day.

I still am sad that we lost the oilers just as Steve McNair was coming into his own. He was someone else that you could see was going to a superbowl and he did.

Please Bob, Draft Vince. Solidify the future of the Texans. Let David play why we fix the issues and get Vince acclimated to the NFL. Its a win win for the team and a win/win for the fans.

Well yeah see I'm new but have been noticing this trend that all threads do seem to turn into this. But i do have a question. Can anyone answer this for me. Is David Carr a good quarterback. After watching every snap for 4 years, i would think I'd know the answer, but i don't :(

Sorry

He is either:

A: A pathetic, gutless loser who needs to be run out of town.
or
B: A great QB who has yet to prove himself.

Hope that helps.

Every other thread turns into this also. But you pose a good question, one that even Bob McNair himself had to hire someone to come in and tell him and I honestly doubt he received a convincing answer.

Every other fan here will give you a different answer however I am of opinion that if you cannot answer whether someone is good or not after four years, that itself is an answer.

There IS a good reason and I would be lying if I said I wasn't responsible for some of it. It's obviously what most fans want to talk about. The prospect of having or not having VY has created a buzz around the Texans that we haven't seen since the first season.

I'm having a flashback, because I remember after another ONE game that proved we have to draft Vince Young. Seeing how you just joined right after the Rose Bowl I can see where your coming from. Will the draft just hurry up and get here so we can put all this crap to bed.

the Broncos game proves nothing , lets count all the scrambling QBs in the playoffs right now , hmmm lets see , well no Vick , no Culpepper , no McNabb , hmm yeah I think we can honestly say Vince Young doesnt figure anywhere into the Broncos game analysis . If anything it Proves the pocket QBs are the way to go

I don't understand the logic of this thread. :um:

There wasn't a "running" QB like Vince Young in this year's playoffs. Most of them are traditional drop-back passers. Today's games have nothing to do with the Texan's situation and needs.

Where is the meat?

You say today proves why we should draft Young, but you do not give a reason?

Vince is a great college player, but so were many players. I would not be unhappy to see him a Texans uniform, but you have given me no reason that todays game did anything to make a more compelling avenue for the team to pursue.

Hasselback, Plummer, and Rothlesburger all are mobile and comparable in that sense to Carr.

but i don't like comparing styles of players to make a point. Every qb is different and handles different situations differently.

If todays game taught us anything it was that QBs don't play defense. They can't run block either. Denver's inability to disrupt the Steeler's offense and failure to establish their lauded running attack is why they lost. Jake Plummer didn't take over the game but few QB's in the league can or do. I'd rather have a solid defense to give my QB a chance in almost any situation and a kick ***** offensive line that can control the line of scrimmage. THAT's what will bring a championship to Houston, not some over hyped unproven QB coming off one great performance against a bad defense.

I dont think "many players" were as good as Vince was in college...

I know you're trying to say "it was just college, not the NFL". But no one has produced to the tune of 3000/1000 in the history of college football.

Seriously, I think David can step his game up to the next level, with good pass protection... How can you expect a quarterback to perform to the best of his abilities when he's got no protection... The opponents defense rarely have trouble penetrating the pocket, and David is not vary calm and collected himself... He has been taking hit's since his rookie season, so how the hell should he feel... Not vary confident... So, my point is that he can't get good passes off with defenders breathing down his neck all the time... Give him some protection, and watch him throw, you might be surprised with what the guy can do. If you seen him toss it down at fresno, you would not dought him...

But none of these QBs are "running" QBs. They can scramble, and pick up some yardage, but not by design. They run as a last resort, when a play is broken up.

See that's what i think too. And I'm sorry to say that because I genuinely like Carr. Also there is a HUGE and I mean HUGE PR bump from Young. He would bring the Texans into the national stage and that is a good thing too.

Carr seems to be a great guy and a great employee never once complaining. But great Quarterback doesn't seem to want to fit.

Today proves we need Young because why? A QB taken in the 6th round and a QB that is about as pocket passer as they come both advanced to the Super Bowl..?

thats pretty incorrect, both QBs are just as mobile as Carr, Rothlesburger maybe even more so.

Exactly, well said. Roth like Carr isnt a speedy QB, but he knows how to manuver around in the pocket and when to take off.

right or wrong :stirpot:

Arizona let Plummer walk after 5 why can't the Texans let Carr walk after 4

OK, for the 1000000th time, how do we "fix the issues" if we use our first round pick on a QB who will ride then bench for a season and have two-number one pick's worth of money invested in two players and one position? When you are 2-14, you cant fix the present and the future, you have to pick one. I am tired of potential, give me a LT, and G and MLB that can tackle and lets win today.

I was referring to Hasselbeck when I said QB taken in the 6th round... and Rothlesburger when I said pocket passer... I guess I was wrong about Ben, but I always thought he was pretty much a pocket passer. I really haven't seen him play too much, so maybe I got that part wrong.
It still really goes to prove my point...
a 6th rounder and a guy with much less than VY mobility made it to the SB... doesn't prove anything one way or the other about VY and our need for him...
