I'll take Mr. McNair at his word that the organization hasn't made a decision yet.

Decent article and I believe McNair hasn't decided what to do with the pick. I do think it was a little biased at the end though.

I actually do believe that he and the organization have made up their mind. They will "evaluate" and then come to the decision that Reggie Bush is their guy. They will talk about how they love Vince, but that they have done extensive evaluations and research and have come to the conclusion that Reggie Bush will help the team the most because of his explosiveness and versatility.

This article was a weak attempt to still lobby for VY. The whole article came down to the last sentence, which was pathetic. His whole argument (mentioned in another thread) is that Kubiak will not be able to pass up VY when he says how much he loves Houston! If Kubiak will make a decision on something silly like that (he won't), I would not want him as HC. He will make a football decision. McClain's brain has shut down permanently! :brickwall:

Well first of all McClain is a "columnist", which means he's paid to write his opinions, and his opinion on VY/Bush is fairly well documented. So the fact that it appears "biased" is irrelevant.

I actually do believe that he and the organization have made up their mind. They will "evaluate" and then come to the decision that Reggie Bush is their guy.

Why do you believe they've already made up their mind? Why do you think they'll "evaluate" (wink wink) and not take an honest, hard look at every single one of the top prospects (Bush, Young, Fergueson, Hawk, and so on)? That would be both moronic and irresponsible.

The only thing that the Texans have stated publicly is that they are planning to give Carr the bonus extension. All this stuff about McNair guaranteeing to Carroll that Bush would go #1 is asinine. What possible benefit do the Texans gain by doing this? McNair is a better businessman than that, not to mention a better person (he is not going to cut his new coach out of the decision).

Kubiak may have shared some opinions in the interview process, but he hasn't had time to thoroughly evaluate the draft yet. His team is on the brink of a Super Bowl! At this point he knows about as much about Young, Bush and the others as what he's seen on ESPN and what he may have picked up in casual conversations with those in the league.

If nothing else is clear....John McClain's choice certainly is. lol

He tried to be unbias but gave way there with the Elway comparison and the last paragraph. :stirpot:

Am I reading the thread title correctly that our John McClain actually wrote a great article? If this is the case, it is definitely newsworthy and calls for a celebration. I concur that it is definitely one of his better articles, although I'm not sure what scouts (none that I have heard from) say that Vince is the best leader to come out of college since Elway. At least this article is not pure Vince propganda like some of McClain's other recent stuff.

MorKnolle read it again. The whole article is a setup for the last paragraph, specifically the last line.

Yes, but it's not as blatant as most of his other writings have been, of course he builds up a little suspense and starts leaning towards his opinion that the Texans should (and somehow he is convinced that the Texans have secretly decided to) draft Vince.

April 29 is a long way away.

That's better for Vince.

I can't wait. He will be a Texan.

MorKnolle, just curious, are you in the business to where you actually WOULD hear first hand from NFL scouts?

McClain is giving the Vince fans a false sense of hope. When the Texans extend Carr's contract that will be the sign that they are not taking Vince Young. I don't care what McClain or Justice says. They aren't going to extend Carr's contract for 3 years and then draft a QB with the #1 overall pick.

tulexan, what are you going to do IF the texans do draft vince young?

They aren't going to extend Carr's contract for 3 years and then draft a QB with the #1 overall pick.

The issue here is the cap. Seeing that we're probably going to have to release a slew of other players Casserly signed, from a purely business standpoint our hands may be tied from trading Carr (and taking a hit) or paying two #1 draft picks who play the same position.

Welcome him to the team. I won't be particularly happy because I feel it would be a wasted pick, but I'm not going to start rooting for the Titans because Reggie Bush is drafted by them.

The one thing to remember with "the General" is that he always sides with the best "story." In a sense he is always looking to make his job easier. Pay attention to him in interviews, "wow, wouldn't it be a great story if..." As he sees it now, Vince Young, would be a better story than Reggie Bush, who would be a better story than trading down. He does not look the eyes of a football analyst, but of a some-what lazy journalist.

McClain appears to be applying to become VY's agent. I think VY should pay him for all the down home PR he's getting from McClain - and those at Sports Radio 610 deserve a little payback, too. What a sales job they're trying to pull off!

McLain's articles are getting old. I will be happy with Bush or VY and will unfortunately be fearful of Tenn. regardless of what happens with this draft...Tenn is in a great spot. The only difference with this article over any others he's written is its not 100% in VY's corner. Bush does get about 5% on this go around.

Him admitting we won't trade Carr and yet bring in VY makes him look pretty stupid, but to his credit he has been making that call since the very beginning. I still think saying we are not trading Carr is a little premature as well. We will know more by mid-Feb...

It's not a bad article, just typical columnist speculation.

My disclaimer inserted here that I'll be happy with either picking Bush or Young...

I think many folks are correct in believing that Young is one of the most dynamic players to come out of the college ranks in a long, long time. Dude just has that ability to take control and lead, and when other don't follow, he takes command and does it himself. This is a good thing for the most part, but it could also get him into trouble. Mainly because players like this can get impatient while waiting for something to develop, and he could have the tendency to just try to do everything himself.

But Bush is also a dynamic prospect with killer potential. A guy like Reggie can elevate everyone around him, simply because he is striving to be the best, as well. While there is some concern about his durability, this has yet to be tested. Only time will tell. But having another offensive playmaker alongside of DD and AJ would be fantastic, and I look forward to seeing some awesome plays as Bush takes it to the endzone over and over.

Either way, it's all a good thing. This is pretty much what I get from McClain's article, in spite of him leaning one way or the other.

the "general" is a windbag...next week he'll have a story completely opposite of this one....i'm surprised he didn't throw in some garbage baylor prospect or talk about some old radio guy he admired...i used to listen to him like he was the football gospel but too much of his info turns out to be a great "story"...nobody with half a brain actually thought we would not entertain trade offers and announce "we're taking bush" would they? if they would then get them outta here too...taking vince just doesn't make sense...taking bush while exciting and makes us all warm and fuzzy that he might score every single time he touches the ball, will not happen..8 yds per carry you say? i say no way...trade the pick , let's get some o-line help and some defense

If the texans take vince young after a serous evaluation will you believe it or will you just say they took him because he is a hometown player? This decision will not some down to young vs bush. It's going to be young vs carr. The new coaches evaluation of carr is going to be the major factor in this decision. If he thinks he can develop carr into a great nfl qb, young will not be in a texan uniform.

Well at least McClain actually talked to someone at the Texans. Some of these other Chronicle people like Lopez just write columns that are just opinions without doing any of the legwork. If I just want an opinion I can ask any guy off the street or just read the message boards.
