Reading those reponses on that petition were hilarious. If we chose Vince Young because of fan pressure, I will lose what respect I do have for the front office/staff...

PLEASE! The Texans need an OL, not a QB or RB. I'd be happy with a Stud DE or LB before a QB or RB.

I hope all of this is a ploy by the Texans to get greater value for the #1 pick. Of course Bush and/or Young would love to be drafted by the Texans..... they assume the Texans keep the #1 overall pick, and thus if drafted, they would get a HUGE contract. It's all about the $$$$ ! Why else would they leave college and enter the NFL draft?? It's all about the Benjis BABY! ! !

Bush is not going to be as good as people say hes just going to be an average back, Landel White is better that him. VY has proven himself time and time again and hes like the next mike vick but with a good arm.

Observe the first three picks of last years draft. See if QB or RB's contributed more.

no Young is going to be an average QB, Lienart is better than him. And Bush has proven himself time and again and is like Tiki Barber with more speed and better hands.

Any other pointless arguements we can solve with conjecture and supposition?

How do any of you know what to compare VY to? Are any of you NFL scouts? The fact that ANYone is suggesting the Texans take VY, just ruins their whole perspective on what the Texans need!

Yes, I will compare VY to an NFL QB...... Akili Smith!!! Remember him?? All hype and did NOTHING in the NFL.....VY will be the same! He has horrible passing skills and does not know how to read a defense. Sure, some OC in the NFL is going to play "Mack Brown" and just let VY do what VY does......sling the deep ball and hope that it is caught by the WRs. NFL DL & DBs are not the same caliber as Baylor, UNT, ULaLa or TxTech, they are actually pretty good.

Go ahead, compare VY to Vick!!!! Vick is the most overrated QB in the NFL. What has he done??? Nothing! Hell, the Falcons were better off with Matt Schaub as the QB!

Who cares that VY is from Houston...how about the Texans draft Anthony Evans (UH RB) in the 4th rd....I mean, he did go to Pearland HS, so that would cause him to drop to the 4th rd, too bad he isn't from houston, then he would go in the 2nd rd!

Most of the logic presented by the VY / RB supporters is getting ridiculous. Now I see why NFL players do not like fanatics like most of you.....they actually despise your type! :redtowel:

Proven himself WHERE? Oh that's right, in college against athletes that don't have his skills. In the NFL everyone has his skills, thus PARITY. Well ya got the Mike Vick part right anyway...gj! And Grid is a personal friend of mine, he'd support the team irregardless who they picked, unlike you bandwagon tsippin boys. Have a nice life as a Saints fan :)

OK, now you have lost credibility. Akili Smith was/is not a mobile QB. His college stats were no where near VY's. He was more like a Byron Leftwich type of guy. The only thing VY and Akili Smith have in common is their race and position on the field.

So VY has no passing skills and can't read defenses? He FREAKING led the nation in passing efficiency. If he was able to pull that off by having no passing skills and not able to read defenses, geez, he is better than I thought. Did you happen to see that TD strike he thew against Ohio State in the clutch to pull that game out of his a**?

If you want to see the definition of not being able to read defenses, look up the name David Carr.

BTW, I don't think you can compare anyone to Vince Young, as many NFL scouts have said because there has been no one like him.

Comparing Young to McNair is just as silly as comparing Young to Vick. I've never seen Young throw the ball as hard and as accurate as McNair can.

Technically he was 3rd in passer rating.

HUH?

Stats from each QBs last year in college:

Akili Smith

Att 371 Com 215 Pct 57.95 Yds 3763 YPA 10.1 TD 32 Int 9 Passer Rating 170.4

Vince Young

Att 325 Com 212 Pct 65.20 Yds 3036 YPA 9.34 TD 26 Int 10 Passer Rating 163.95

Pretty comparable stats if you ask me. If anything, Smith's were more impressive as he ran a pro-style offense under Jeff Tedford. And while VY is faster (4.4 vs. 4.7), I don't know if he is quicker than Smith was coming out of college. Smith was NOT as slow as Leftwich, that is certain.

Smith had a 62 yard TD run in college. Byron never had more than 92 yards rushing in a college SEASON.

Having said that, I would not say VY is another Akili Smith. But I wouldn't say that VY is another Steve McNair or Steve Young either. When you look at college stats and compare all these QBs, all you can conclude is that college STATs do not mean ANYTHING, especially for QBs.

Jack Bauer

Technically he was 3rd in passer rating.

He led the nation during the non-bowl season. I don't think every poster has to clarify this everytime the stat is brought up. When we compare most NFL players; we don't usually add regular season and post season together.

Both players are awesome college players, both have a very bright NFL future barring any big-time injuries, and both have only "proved" themselves against college players. Neither one is a clear-cut better player, both have some amazing physical gifts and both have some serious concerns about how their skills/body translate into the NFL. The Texans will draft who they think will be the best for their team, so we'll have to wait to see what they do and then give them a couple years and see what each has proven in the NFL, and hopefully along the way one of them will help turn this team around in the process or else lead to a slew of draft picks/other players that help rejuvenate this team.

thats so true. its just that wat do we need bush for we already got davis and hes good. but can also say wat do we need young for if we already got carr but carr hasnt really proven himself yet. ive seen him throw really good passes and but not consistent enough. theres probably not going to be another VY that can run and throw for a while and the texans have the chance of drafting him. im a huge texans fan and i think they should draft him.

Well, if you are going to use his rushing stats and passing stats from the Rose Bowl and say he went over 1000 rush yrds and 3000 passing yrds, then you must take into account ALL of his stats and agree that he dropped in passing eff.

BTW, do any of you know how the passer rating is calculated? Avg Yrd per Attp is weighted WAY too heavily in the equation. The top 4 at the end of the season (pass eff) also were the top 4 in YPA. Coincidence?? Nope! It is a stat that is very misleading.
********************************

NCAA Pass-Efficiency Formula

To determine a pass-efficiency rating, multiply a passer's yards per attempt by 8.4; add the number obtained by multiplying pass completions per attempt by 100; add the number obtained by multiplying touchdowns per attempt by 330; and subtract the number obtained by multiplying interceptions per attempt by 200.

The formula is as follows:

ER = TY/PA*8.4+PC/PA*100+TD/PA*330-I/PA*200,
where TY=total yards; PC=pass completions; PA=pass attempts; TD=touchdowns; I=Interceptions; ER=Efficiency Rating.

Factoring out 1/PA leaves:
ER = (TY*8.4+PC*100+TD*330-I*200)/PA

Example: Cody Pickett’s stats as of 20 October 2003.

256 attempts
148 completions
8 interceptions
1913 yards
10 TD

1913/256*8.4 + 148/256*100 + 10/256*330 - 8/256*200=127.21

Pickett’s Passing efficiency rating is 127.2

***********************************

If you calculate a sensativity analysis, you'll see that YPA realistically has the most weight of the 4 factors. UT WRs had an avg ypc of 14.1, and couple that with VY's comp% of 65%, and you can see how the numbers are not telling the true story.

The true story is not that he was the 3rd best passer, but that his WRs were the best as deep threats. I can't count how many times I'd see VY roll out and throw the ball deep. That and his running ability are two skills that the NFL will diminish. The skills needed to be an everydown style QB are not there. The NFL Combine will prove that. Although his agent will probably keep him away from the combine and only allow him to showcase his "skills" at the UT scouting day.

He is not going to be that highly rated after the combine/pro day, trust me! The 40 time might be fine, but the arm strength and his mechanics are horrible! His balls tend to float, which is a cardinal sin in the NFL, in the NCAA , a QB can get away with that by having great leaping WRs.

And BTW, he is no where near a gift from god as one stated. And for the crack on Carr, let's see how well any QB plays with the Texans OL. Peyton Manning would look more like Eli if he had the Texans OL. THAT is where the problem lies.

Jack Bauer

Agreed. Peyton looked like Carr in the playoff game with his own OL. What would he look like behind ours? 5 sacks in one game after being sacked 17 times during the entire regular season. He looked much more AVERAGE when he could not be protected.

What scouts? Could you provide some sources, maybe? Weird how a great Rose Bowl performance and a couple of the ESPN crowd extrapolates to "everyone and their mother in the league 'knowing' that no one is not and has never been like Vince." If you are going to reinforce your opinions with this kind of thing, you might provide a source or two.

Yea, I agree. The hype is already too much for both Vince and Reggie.

Pick Wheinhart.

I say, trade Carr for Ricky Williams and a #1 Draft Pick!

Lets see, according to Mel Kiper, Miami picks 16th and is slated as taking none other than Winston Justice!

Congrats, you now have have the QB of the future, a functional thumper in Ricky to soften up a defense for the big play from Dominack Davis, a franchise left tackle and now you can pick the best TE available in the 2nd round. Hey, that might be worth watching.
