I think the Texans allready have alot of the ingredients that Carolina possess. I think that a new QB is the least of our problems.

1. I think that we should take Bush, we can use him like a steve smith etc.
2. We beef up the online in the 2nd / 3rd round
3. Find a decent TE in the 4th, hopefully a diamond in the ruff or at least one that can block
4 - 6 rounds. Pick more OL players

Hit the FA market for a CB to replace P Buc

Swith the defense to a 4-3

My main point here is we dont need a Manning or Vick, you saw what happen to Manning today, the teams that are still in the playoffs have average QB and i think Carr can be just as good as Jake. You guys need to watch Carolina carefully as they roll to the superbowl with a Average QB. Out of the top 10 QB's in the league, how many of them are still in the playoffs?

Who would you guys pick excluding a QB in the draft?

Edit, I did not look at Jake's stats, I was only assuming that he is adv and yes, Jake Plummer and Matt are still the playoffs but not leeps and bounds better then what Carr could be.

Jake Delhomme is much better than average and has a pro bowl to back him up. Just look at his TD production over the years (53 over the last 2 years). I won't even bring up his decision making and his intangibles. They are off the chart compared to Carr. No way the Panthers trade Jake for Carr (not that you suggested it).

Ok, after looking at Jakes stats over the years ...

Jake did nothing in his first 5 years, keep in mind that he has been in the league 4 more years then Carr so its not really a fair comparison. All im saying is that it would be unfair to write Carr off without a supporting cast of players around him. I dont care what qb you put in a Texans uniform, he will not look any better then Carr and to validate this point even further; Manning, the best QB in the league? reminded me of Carr today when he was sacked back to back times when they had miracle oportunities to win the game and still could not pull through, explain why he could not win the game, perhaps it was lack of a supporting cast which he pointed that out on national TV?

Jake did nothing his first 5 years because he never touched the field for the Saints. Carr has been on the field for the Texans.

And Jake had to do something Carr didnt: Jake had to win the job.

I must still be missing something? How long have the Saints been around, How long have the Texans been around, Carr started on a expansion team, still not a fair comparison.

EDIT: Too many people on this board are pointing fingers at the QB for the team sucking, Its going to take alot more then a superman QB to win games, he is going to need a supporting cast and that includes the fans who are obviously not supporting Carr. Did you guys support Moon?

For starters, there is a difference between not playing and playing badly. The Saints are a second rate orgaization and this is just another bonehead move on thier part.

Also, while our o-line stinks and does not give DC enough time to operate, the decision he makes under pressure have been poor. Instead of throwing the ball out of bounds, he will run out of bounds and take a sack. During a preseason game, DC was rolling out and thew a pass across the field for an interception. DC obviously didn't learn his lesson, and thew another one on a few weeks later on almost the exact same play. I have been a supporter up until this year, but enough is enough.

Anyone and everyone on a 2-14 team is cut bait starting with the coaches then the QB. One problem has been solved, time for the second.

The problem is that Carr is paid like Superman in a league that has a finite cap.

The best thing anyone, even from Carr supporters, can say about him is that he has alot of potential. You pay for potential as a rookie, not as a four year starter.

Great point. That's the thing that scares me about this pick. You dradting Bush is saying that Carr will turn the corner. It's not that I don't like Bush ( I do), i'm just not sold on Carr. I haven't seen one, not a single, game from Carr these past years that says to me that he's the franchise QB. Before any of you try to bring up games that may have sold YOU, save it. I said HAS NOT SOLD ME.

I was watching this game yesterday and thinking the same thing. There is no reason that we can not have the same success as CAR. I think Carr has more tools then Jake and can develop into even a better QB than he is. Carr just needs the supporting cast like Jake has.

S Smith is just assume. Everyone on the D knows the ball is coming to him and he is still the man. I love Dre but other than the Minn game last year he has never been that dominant. We need playmakers and that is the bottom line.

Would leading his team back from a 21-0 defecit, throwing for 340 yds and 3 or 4 TD's (cant remeber exactly) count? Of course we lost the game because the D gave up 400yds and 5 TD's to Culpepper, and after tying the game up and going to OT, they gave up a TD before our offense could see the field... how could that not convince you?

YEah, lets not forget that Jake has the #3 defense in the league backing him up...

Yes he does. Would they be able to pay for that type of defense if they had 7 million of cap earmarked for the QB is the question.

Kaiser they do have exactly that a Defense. That is why I am for trading the pick, picking up Mario Williams, a CB/FS and really retooling on D. If we are going to make the switch to a 4-3 we are going to need some guys that can really get after it. Greenwood is not a playmaker not sure who thought he was, but retooling utilizing extra picks to pick up two high profile guys will do our defense some good. And our offense will look much better. More opportunities, make offenses look quite good.

I was saying yes that Jake has a defense. And yes I am in the trade down camp as you are. It is my contention that a 7-8 million dollar contract for a QB has an impact on what you can do on the defensive side of the ball when that 7-8 million dollar QB can't get it done on his talent and skill set alone.

Valid points.

I think the Texans can have a much better offense than Carolina with Bush, AJ, DD, Wells, and a quality TE. We need to improve our o-line and execute Kubiak's scheme.

The only problem is we do not have the brilliance of John Fox to run our defense. Carolina's defense is the most over looked unit in the league. However, I agree they are a great model to build off of.

Carr is more than adequate for the Texans to be a successful "team." What I think a lot of fans forget is that football is a "team" game. A superstar QB is great, but this does not usually equal to postseason wins. I would take Tom Brady anyday over many other QBs that have better pure skills.

Delhomme is going to have a cap hit of $6.4 million for the 2006 season and is in the second year of a five year $36 million contract extension that he signed in 2004.

Just so we can put this to rest: After Sunday's game, Jake Delhomme is the highest rated passer in the NFL playoff history. Yes, higher than Brady, Montana, Elway, etc. (stat via Around the Horn)

I think we would be on the right track with our defense if we draft Mario Williams and hire Jim Bates as our DC. Fox is great and Bates seems to be in the same class based on what he did in Green Bay this past year and with Miami before that.

The only RB Carolina has drafted in the 1st round was Tim Biakabatuka.

Think you'd be better off following that trail?
