View Full Version : For the love of God, trade down!

David Carr gets sacked more often than Hunter Smith punts. Drafting Vince Young or Reggie Bush is not going to improve the offense if they cant get out of the backfield. If I was GM, I would trade the pick to a team like KC or Ari for at least two picks and a veteran OL. With the first pick, Id choose a MLB, and with the second, another OL, or vice versa, depending on who was available at the time. Drafting Young, while a hometown boy would be nice, would just provide another sack target for NFL defenses, and what good is a franchise quarterback that spends more time picking himself off the ground than moving the ball forward? Get the backs some protection up front so they dont get killed, and it will go a long way toward fixing the team.

trade the pick!!!!! this is the most valuable pick maybe ever.....get a kings ransome..fill your holes...let the #1 qb we already have get a real shot....maybe carr is trash but we just don't know...give him a line and a coach and lets see..oh and maybe an NFL caliber TE..imagine that

If they are really sold on Bush, I feel confident that we could still trade down to TN at 3 and still get Bush plus extra picks because I think both TN and NO would go QB. We would really have to sell it to TN that we have others interested in moving up to get Young for this to happen, but I think it would be a good calculated risk if Bush is the target. The down side is that Adams probably gets Young, but if we go Bush #1 chances are that happens anyway.

If TN or NO suprises us and takes Bush or trades to someone else that does, then either Young or Lienert would be available at 3 so we could then trade down a second time if we still plan to stick with Carr.

Basically we have a lot of option and the pick is more valuable than 1 guy.

Isn't Hunter Smith teh punter for Indy? Cuz if so, he never punts. So that is saying nothing.

yes, Hunter the Punter, of the Colts. Have you heard the song? But seriously, with the backfield talent in houston, an offensive line is more important than anything else at this point. VY would just be scrambling for his life back there and if he's lucky, avoid injury (akili smith anyone?)

Amen, If we are not going to FINALLY address the O-line then get VY, at least he has more speed and is more athletic. I feel bad for Carr and the pathetic attempts to improve the OL

Man with #1 pick likes options… Its only one man’s opinion, but Houston G.M. Charlie Cassely, whose Texans hold the top pick at the 2006 draft, thinks this year’s crop of prospects is relatively promising. According to Casserly, who talked with reporters yesterday after Southern Cal’s Reggie Bush announced his decision to enter this year’s draft “You have a real strong top of the draft…I think it's much stronger than it was a year ago.” And while Casserly did not say whether the Texans would draft Bush, he had plenty of praise for the Trojan RB saying that Bush "gives you a touchdown-maker and another playmaker on offense." Indeed, just to keep all his options open, Casserly also left open the possibility of trading the #1 pick if the right deal came along saying that “if we trade the pick we've got certainly a very valuable commodity to trade."

glad to see cc is open to a trade.i think we should also trade the pick hopefully to the jets(who have 2 #1s if i remember correctly) and with them choose D'brickashaw with the 1st and a linebacker/te with the 2nd. ive visited these boards a good bit lately and cant understand why so many 'fans' want bush or especially young.who cares if hes from houston...hes a risk and a #1 overall pick shouldnt be viewed as a risk.cant people see the texans are an o-line and linebacking core away from being a decent team. they have 1 of the most valuable picks in the history of the draft yet qb and rb arent major needs on our team. so make a lucrative trade and plug the holes we have. if this occurs the texans will be a 7-9 team at least imo. the only reason i might like to see Bush here is if he is used in part of a rotation at rb and in part as a wr as it might help shake off some of andre's constant double teaming
(if no lucrative offers are available). One last thing against bush- in 2003 the LT led sd chargers finished 4-12(when brees wasnt good like last 2 years)..rb isnt the most important position-qb is and the texans will only see good quarterbacking when david carr is given adequate protection

The value of the #1 pick is almost never worth the money paid to that player nor what you can stockpile in return. Based on the point value chart for draft picks we could get a high 2nd round pick for moving down only a few spots:

If we were still 4th or 5th overall we could get Ferguson or AJ Hawk, then go O-line or Defense for the 2 second round picks. That would still leave us with 2 3rd round picks to bolster the secondary and Oline depth. Trading Down could give us 5 picks out of the first 70. THATS how to turn around this franchise. (KUBIAK wouldn't hurt either)

Trusting CC with extra picks isn't the way to turn the franchise around.

I think many of the previous pick were pushed by the old coaching staff. I'm not too worried about CC if we have good coaches that know personnel.

I still say we should make it our top priority to addess the offensive line. Give David Carr the time to pass and he will shine. I hear that Witherspoon from the Panthers is going to be up for grabs at the end of the season. If by chance the Panthers don't resign him I'd see him being an excellent fit in our LB core.

If Kubiak and our Texans get lucky maybe we can pick up some Broncos' Free Agents. I don't know who they are or if they would fit our system. Just food for thought.
